In 2004, out of nowhere, a huge island of the size of Texas appeared in the middle of the pacific ocean. It was situated in the southern hemisphere with its south most point just 310 miles (500km) north of Easter Island.

The island was shaped almost like a perfect circle. On the center there was a huge mountain with snowy peak from witch all the rivers of the island came from. At first the island was just a big chunk of rock, but, over the years with human colonization, the island became green.

The north of the island was a heavy jungle that enjoyed year round rain that came from the equator.

The south of the island was a savanna like biome that had heavy rains half of the year and absolute dryness the other half.

There were no native animals or plants in the island. They were all brought from outside. From the colonization, the island quickly grew with imported plants and animals. Migratory birds also started to nestle there and with them other species of plants came as well.

Soon gates opened there and species from other planets started to grow roots there too.

Big mammals, however, did not survive on their own. Only cattle, horses and other farm animals prospered with the help of mankind. Wild animals were only dogs, cats, racoons and other small animals that adapted to survive in the new environment.

Colonization of the land was extremely multicultural. No singular country managed to lay a legitimate claim to the island at first. China, France, Chile, the United States, New Zealand, Australia and even Japan tried, but no country could make a claim that the international community would support.

Some skirmishes over the land occurred between the countries, but none that led to war. When the first battleship, a Chilean vessel, anchored on the island's shores and pointed its cannons to a small Somalian settlement, the United Nations intervened.

The countries of the world agreed to let the island under the UN administration as an open border land and allow civilians the settle there at will. The idea was to create first a community there, to colonize the land with culture. When the island would be populated enough, the people living there would choose to which country they were going to be submitted to.

This led to a colonization race. Every country in the world started to subsidize colonization plans for the island. Loads of boats and planes carrying nationals of all countries in the world started to drop people on the island.

Those who went were refugees fleeing the places where major gates led to catastrophes, like the partition of Canada before the Ice Trolls, the take over of the Undead Army in central USA, the Orcish invasion of Europe, the Beastmen Takeover of most of Africa.

Others were people looking for a better place to live. People fleeing poverty. People fleeing the justice from other countries. And, of course, people seeking new business opportunities like Erin's family, the Finnegans.

And there were even the elves and other races that also found in the open land refugee and security from their own problems. The gate for Nuilynn, itself, opened on the island in 2009.

By 2020, the island already had over 30 million people living on it. At the time, the island was simply known as the Pacific Island. Pacific because of the ocean, because the island was far from being pacific.

With so many cultures and ethnicities living together, there was no single code of law that they all agreed upon. The UN tried their best to hold peace, to push down laws, but the people there just didn't agree with any of it.

In 2026, the first paramilitary unit was formed on the northeast of the island. They were mostly Chinese and were being funded by China, the only large power not being directed affected by a major gate incident.

The Chinese nationals quickly began taking control of the island little by little. Sometimes by force, other times by genuine compliance form the other ethnicities.

The UN tried to stop them, as they were already settling their own code of laws and replacing the UN's administration where they held power. But China's influence in the UN's Security Council, made the organization slow in their dealings.

The USA then started funding their own paramilitary group and soon most countries in the world were supporting one organization or the other inside the island.

Civil war broke in 2031. The bloodshed claimed the lives of 4 million people. This was the first major war on Earth that a foreign planet was not involved. The first war with full understanding of mana and with adventurer soldiers on all combatant sides.

Other countries flirted with the idea of sending their own armies into the conflict, but the threats of war between countries over such an action made them all hold their positions. The only thing they did was to send money, food and weapons to the side they supported.

By 2034, the civil war developed from a free for all battle into two coalitions front. One led by the Chinese nationals in alliance with the Elves from Nuilynn. The other was led by a multitude of groups with a Nigerian man called Enitan leading them. Enitan's group had the support of the US behind them.

The war reached a standstill after that and many talks of dividing the island between the two forces was debated. That would mean the creation of two puppet states, one controlled by China and the other by the US. Those talks however, never went forward because of ample rejection from the citizens of the island.

In January 2035, however, Enitan fell in love with a elven woman he met in the hospital. She was a nurse that treated him back to health after shrapnel from a bomb almost took his leg away.

The nurse was called Alynn and she was the daughter of a major elven supporter of the other side of the war.

Alynn and Enitan got married in July and this union made a lot of elves change sides to Enitan's group. The most prominent of them was Alynn's father himself who become infatuated with his son in law's honor and courage.

That led to a shift in power making the Chinese group lose territory and, by 2037, lose the war.

At first Enitan and Alynn became king and queen of the new country they founded. It was then that they named the country Ile Tuntun, or New Home in Yoruba. Their government was based on reconstructing the country ravaged by war and paying back loans made from foreign powers that all demanded a piece of the country as payment.

Enitan, however, was fierce in that front. He ceded no land whatsoever to foreign influences, not even from his father in law. Instead he repaid all the aid his side of the war received with money and crops.

Ile Tuntun was filled with gates and dungeons. The island had much more gates and dungeons per square mile than any other place in the world, with Korea in second place.

With ample subsidize to adventurers, the income that came from the gates and dungeons was enough to make the country wealthy enough to pay off the foreign countries that wanted a piece of the island.

Enitan died in 2052 from a dungeon incursion that went wrong at 55 years old. Alynn, taken by grief retired back to her family estate in Nuilynn. Their son and daughter, however, had no wishes to becoming king or queen.

Without a natural leadership to take the crown, the country almost went into another civil war. But as the population was still suffering from the last war, they transitioned peacefully to into a Presidential Republic.

The country was divided into prefectures, each governed by a Mayor. The biggest of which, was the city of Southport, the biggest city in the country and where Matthew was born. The capital, however, was the city of New Lagos, founded by Enitan when he became king. The president acted as the Mayor of New Lagos as well.

87 years latter, we arrive at the time our story takes place. It is 2139 now. The country has now 4 names it is known as. Ile Tuntun, Terra Pacifica, Pacific Island and Republic of Pacific Island.

Its official language is English. Since it was a multicultural land, no single language is spoken more than any other. Therefore English was adopted as it was the international language at the time of colonization.

Its main export are mana crystals and cattle meat. Its industry is still incipient and most of the manufactured goods comes from overseas.

It's now a recognized country by the UN and it kept its independence from other countries despite the circumstances of its colonization.

The population quickly grew back after the war and today the island holds 80 million people in high density cities.
