"What do you mean unlock the system… Those things aren't as monotone as you think. They act to defend their host. You think it would just sit still if I let it go!"
Clyme yelled over the line as his sword carved through six Ashuras in a row, his arm bracing for a strike from their commander directly.
"Yes, but Evans can't work without you unlocking it. His only way of tapping through is to follow the system's roots. Without it, he can't work!" A voice yelled back through transmission.
Gritting his teeth, not only from the ridiculousness of the ask but also from tanking a barrage of strikes from Rohan, Clyme could only give in.
"Fine, I will set it free!"
A luminant orb streaked out of his frame, homing its way through the galaxy faster than even light.
It knew what it was searching for and where. It could sense its host!
Very quickly, the planet Roy was held captive on came into view. The orb plunged through the surface in a blink, reaching its host where it settled.
Even Evans, who was present, missed the sight of the luminous orb of light sinking into his subject's chest.
"Ev… Evans…" A static voice rang out from a roughly assembled radio.
"Hmm? I'm here, what's going on?" Evans itched his unkempt hair as he yelled back.
"I got Clyme to set it free. Can you do your job now?" The voice relayed.
Evans' eyes widened, his figure freezing.
"YOU DID WHAT?!"
"Why the fuck are you yelling? You're the one who said the system had to be unlocked before you could work!" The voice yelled back defensively.
"Nononononono!" And indeed Evans swung his head in search for his subject… and he was gone.
Crash! Crack! Clang!
In a fit of anger, he began to thrash the whole room.
"You fools! You weren't meant to let the thing free until you told me! I would have made preparations!
Don't you know systems always protect their hosts?!
The 99th batch human is gone. The system must have called an emergency escape protocol!"
Evans lamented. The voice on the other line was silent, only the flow of static could be heard.
"He's… he's gone?"
"WHAT DID YOU GUYS THINK WOULD HAPPEN, GENIUS?! AND HERE YOU BROUGHT MY HOPES UP ALL FOR NOTHING! ARGH!"
"What do I tell Clyme and the others then?"
"WHY ARE YOU ASKING ME? DO I CARE?!"
Crash! Evans' fist splintered through the feeble communicator, still heaving, his eyes red from anger and loss.
"That guy could be anywhere… Clyme's going to be so pissed."
…
Meanwhile, not that far away, on a planet within the constraints of the Reduxe Galaxy — a planet called Heria…
Splash!
A projectile from the sky plummeted into the seas…
"What was that?" A man with grey skin and a single eye questioned as he gazed at the sea from the shore.
The sea lit pink, reflecting the same hue as the beautiful otherworldly sky, undulating with waves stirred from whatever it was that fell into its depths.
"That looked like a human…" he mused. This man was a Granoid, a subservient race of the Pioneers. To him, humans were like nobles — seeing one in trouble and not helping was blasphemy.
Not hesitating, he leaped into the cold embrace of the disturbed waters. His singular eye shone under the sea, helping him navigate through and find what he was searching for quite quickly.
Plop!
A figure was thrown to the shores as the Granoid followed suit.
Taking his time to catch enough oxygen first, he then examined his rescue.
"It is a human… But smaller? Probably a child then."
Confirming the identity of the unconscious man, he didn't hesitate to carry the human child home. There he could treat the child better.
Very soon he reached a small village. Other grey-skinned Granoids could be seen going about their day, little children playing all over the streets.
Houses made of wood and roofings made of leaves littered the small clearing.
"Krashul, you're back! Huh, is that a human you're carrying?" A Granoid running towards him noticed and paused in shock.
Everyone on the streets heard, staring at Krashul. They froze. A human.
Indeed, on the grey-skinned shoulder of their kin there was a fair small human.
"Where did you find him, Krashul?" The Granoid finally spoke once more, his single eye wide as it stared fervently at the human.
"Hehehe, Hruk, you wouldn't believe my luck!" Krashul chuckled as he walked towards his friend, scratching his head sheepishly.
"He fell from the skies into the seas and was drowning, and I was the one to rescue him." Krashul puffed his chest as he beat it with pride. Saving a human was an honor and a blessing.
Eyes flickered with envy as everyone on sight gazed at the excited and proud Krashul.
Hruk's eyes flitted with jealousy.
"If he is a Lord, maybe he could recruit you as his subordinate. Your life would be changed forever."
Krashul didn't respond, just laughed out loud as he made his way home.
Hruk just watched his friend go, knowing that maybe this might be the last time he could address him so casually. His status might change soon.
"I suddenly remember I have to go fishing today!" Someone yelled as he bolted into the foliage, heading for the seas.
Everyone's eyes lit up. If one fell from the sky, who said another couldn't? A whole bunch of humans might need their help as they stood.
"Me too, I have to go!" And like that, crowds ran towards the sea, sitting and watching the pink sky in expectation even though it was dusk.
…
"Honey, I'm home. Cook the best human cuisine you can — we have a visitor." Krashul yelled as he stepped into a rosewood hut.
"What, Krashul dear, is that a human?! Where did you find one?" A female one-eyed Granoid exclaimed, hand covering her mouth as she watched her husband come in while she breastfed an infant Granoid.
"Hmph, our life is about to change for the better. Now leave the little one and go prepare something nice for our guest." Krashul set the human onto the palm-woven bed by the side delicately.
He was just wondering what to do for treatment when the human's eyes opened, staring straight into his single eye.
"The eyes of humans are as beautiful as the chief says." Krashul thought, mesmerized by the electric blue gaze of the man before him, in contrast to his dull single eye.
Meanwhile, the human wasn't really staring at him but at the series of panels floating in his vision.
[Host has been detected to have left the jurisdiction of Arcana!!!]
[Host is in Danger!!!]
[Initiated emergency random teleportation!!!]
[Quest issued!!!: Host has to reach level 99 to acquire enough energy to fuel a teleportation back home!!!]
"Well, at least the system is back!" Roy mused as his head slowly cleared, like fog parting the skies.
It was at this moment he locked gazes with his savior…
"Aahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!"
