Outside the secret realm, a massive change had already begun. It stretched out to at least half of the southern region, covering all of the northern land of the region.
The sky had darkened, and thunder rumbled all across the affected area.
Special voices emerged across the land as they invoked ancient chants and spoke in forgotten languages. From the sky, cosmic energy gushed out in a constant wave like an endless dam of energy.
The Heavenly Will had descended into the mortal realm.
And it came with gifts. The cosmic energy, which was very thin in the southern region, was now growing back at a fast pace. The corruptive energy within the outer rings thinned, and more cosmic energy fused into parts of the world from this phenomenon.
"Huh?" Orin, who was fighting City Lord Dorian after launching a railgun attack at the city lord's mansion, paused in his tracks.
City Lord Dorian did the same.
They both had a change of expression as they stared at the sky.
"What is this...?" Orin's mechanical voice rang out from his head.
He felt a powerful suppressive force coming from above, and with the darkening sky, he came to a conclusion.
The Heavenly Will!
"How is this possible?" Dorian, on the other hand, had his mouth hanging open.
With his powerful perception of an eagle, he saw it clearly. The dark clouds stretched across the northern lands of the southern region. However, one particular place stood out; it was right next to Ashspire City.
It was the fortress containing the secret realm.
Golden light shone from above as the clouds parted around that area.
What could this mean?
In the city lord's mansion, the Immortal Lady, who had just come out to defend against Orin's attack, paused. She was staring at the two girls who hadn't fallen unconscious under her power, then turned to look at the sky with disbelief written on her face.
Her gaze fell toward the distant secret realm, and she saw the golden lightning shining brightly.
"Is this... the power of heaven?" Lia stared at the sky with a calm, serene expression, but hearing the ancient invocations that rang throughout the land, her heart stirred.
She felt it clearly, the oppressive force of heaven.
'A power that governs everything,' Lia mumbled softly to herself. 'The governing force of nature. The Heavenly Will.'
What could cause such a powerful presence to descend onto this planet?
"..." Alissa stared blankly at the sky.
The instant the invocations began, Alissa felt the true origin energy inside her stir, as if reacting to the power above.
For a split second, Alissa's head flashed with energy, and two tiny horns grew in that moment. But nobody noticed it, not even Alissa herself, as she was too attuned to the heavenly phenomenon.
"This heavenly phenomenon..." The Immortal Lady's breath hitched. She stretched her hand out and drew some lines on her palm, and her shock increased once she was done.
"Sainthood!" she exclaimed, catching everyone's attention.
"What is that, Master?" Evan asked with a confused look on his face. "What is sainthood? Is it some special power?"
"You stupid brat." The Immortal Lady shook her head. "You don't know the immensity of heaven and earth. Do you know what it means to achieve sainthood?"
She was slightly enraged.
Enraged at her disciple's ignorance.
Sainthood was the highest form of authority one could receive from heaven. They were beings who could dominate an era with heaven's acknowledgment. Beings who could speak terms with heaven itself.
And so far, she herself had only seen one single saint before in her life.
"It's him..." she muttered. "It's definitely him! It has to be! He was caught half way between the transformation before!"
"Who, Senior?" Evan asked cautiously, so as not to anger his master.
"Grey Lockhart." Her voice was soft but loud enough for the three people standing to hear.
"What?" Both Lia's and Alissa's expressions changed the instant they heard the name.
They weren't the only ones staring at the sky. Even Varyn, Werner, and Valeria, who were battling, looked up. And just like them, the entirety of the northern lands of the southern region, which encompassed cities like Ashspire, the Three Guard Province, and several other second-rate and third-rate cities, all turned their heads upward.
They stared at the sky in shock and disbelief.
Their evolutionary energy trembled upon hearing the invocations.
This was heaven!
The true overseer of the entire land!
The mysterious force that worked behind the scenes!
However, just as quickly, the heavenly phenomenon dispersed. The cloudy sky vanished, and the golden lightning above the secret realm disappeared.
The Immortal Lady frowned.
...
Inside the secret realm, the entire inheritance ground trembled, and pink energy surged from everyone. The energy was restless and startled.
Deep within the secret realm, a broken disc-like fragment as large as several mountains trembled slightly upon feeling the power.
The mysterious blinding energy rushed into Grey's body like a virus attaching itself to cells.
It spread to every corner of Grey's body, and eventually, within Grey's mind palace, a special seal with an intricate pattern formed. However, it was only half complete. One could tell from a single glance that it was not finished yet.
Following that moment, mysterious light emerged from the seal and shot toward Grey's eyes.
"Ugh!"
Grey's entire body jolted midair as a searing pain shot straight through his eyes. It was as if someone had decided to use his eyeballs as dart targets.
"WHAT THE F—!" He flailed wildly in the air, clutching his face. "Who's sniping my eyes with spiritual needles?!"
The pain was vicious, like his pupils had been replaced with molten lava. For a brief moment, his body spasmed, and he almost forgot he was floating thousands of meters above the ground.
He wobbled midair like a broken drone, spinning once before barely stabilizing himself. "Damn it, Heaven! Are you trying to give me a free disability?!"
He blinked rapidly, eyes bloodshot and watering, every blink making the pain worse.
A few minutes ago, he'd felt a bit guilty about all those curses he threw at Heaven. Maybe he'd gone too far, he thought. Maybe the cosmic will deserved some respect.
Yeah... that regret lasted exactly three seconds.
"F*ck you, Heaven!" Grey shouted toward the blank sky of the inheritance ground.
"This is harassment!"
If Heaven had ears and a mouth, it'd probably be vomiting blood by now.
Here it was, bestowing him higher authority, a greater power that was above everything else.
And here he was.
Cursing it out midair like an ungrateful grandson yelling at his rich ancestor.
He wasn't some crazy maniac who could handle pain like someone who tortured himself every day. The pain in his eyes was like never before.
Perhaps it was even more painful than getting kicked in the balls, but amidst the agony, he still had time to curse Heaven. That meant he could still keep his mind sharp amidst the pain.
Soon, the pain subsided, and warmth surged in Grey's eyes.
More and more power poured out of Grey's mind palace from the seal, rushing into his body.
Immediately, special inscriptions similar to the seal began forming bit by bit across the inner layer of Grey's body. Eventually, it stopped as the seal vibrated slightly, as if there were some errors, and then went silent.
A powerful shockwave shot out from Grey. It wasn't an ordinary shockwave. The instant it spread out, every energy in the area retreated under his presence, and he slowly opened his eyes.
