Werewolf Leveling: Building the Strongest Pack in the Apocalypse

Chapter 183: Childhood Friend

[Congratulations, You have advanced to level 41]

The moment Allucard died, I advanced to level 41, and just like the other times I leveled up, I didn't learn any new skills. It was starting to irk me. I never thought of myself as the power-hungry type, but maybe I had grown addicted to the whole thing.

"Don't worry too much," Khalissi, who was standing beside me, chuckled when she saw my frustration.

We were currently miles away from the Veylmont mansion. we stood in an empty park as we rested and regrouped. The witch had disappeared the moment we left the mansion.

"You're nothing but a newborn after all." she said.

"Yes, I get it. Compared to a demon that has lived for centuries, I am just a child."

Khalissi sighed and shook her head.

"That's not what I meant. I mean that if I'm right about who you really are, then the stage that you're in is that of a newborn. In human terms, you're like a 1-year-old toddler that has just learned mobility."

"That doesn't make sense. I'm a werewolf. I'm supposed to level up just as fast as the others."

"You're a newborn," Khalissi repeated again. "You might look all grown up, but you're still a toddler."

"What am I really?"

I expected her to give me that same line about not being able to talk about the demon king, but to my surprise, she answered.

"You're something new. There are new creations all over the world. Most of these creations are powerful and are spawned when different bloodlines merge as one."

"I've never heard of any of these creations."

Khalissi's pink lips curved upwards into a smile.

"So you haven't heard of a phoenix."

"Is that what I am? A phoenix?"

"No, that's just one example of the many creations in the recent centuries." Khalissi looked up at the will-o'-wisps floating above in the sky. The expression on her face seemed a bit regretful. "To be honest, I wished I knew you existed earlier. I would've stolen you away. I would've raised you as my god, my lover, my everything."

The light in the sky seemed to make her beautiful white hair shine. It looked like polish silver.

"If you weren't as beautiful as you are, your words would've sounded a little creepy." I replied. "What about that person you said you were in love with?"

"The demon king," she answered quickly. "It's all but impossible; that witch has got him wrapped around her fingers."

"You mean the woman with the orange eyes just like mine?"

"Yes. Funny. She used to be my childhood friend. We both wanted to be one of the demon king's concubines. At the time, she wasn't a demon; she was… something else."

"Hmm? What's that supposed to mean?"

Instead of answering, Khalissi stuck out her tongue, which told me I wouldn't get an explanation about that. Instead, she continued to talk about the woman she hated.

"She got married to the demon king before I could, and I was happy for her. But that was when things took a turn for the worse. The moment she entered his inner circle, things began to change. Not even a year into their marriage she managed to eliminate all his other wives. They were all met a fatal end, and Lucifer stopped marrying altogether, and so she remained his only wife. She single-handedly destroyed so many women's dreams. That bitch. That is why I hated her." Khalissi's words were dripping with spite.

"Does that mean she's pulling the demon lord's strings?"

"No, our king is much too wise to be swayed by a single woman. No matter how cunning and smart she may be. But you don't have to worry about them for now; your main focus should be Conquest. Focus on how you'll survive his arrival. Remember, he's nothing like Death; he lives for destruction."

"Conquest, the one who rides atop a white horse," I mumbled. "With a title like that, I half expected someone riding a chariot to swoop out of the sky."

Khalissi smiled.

"With an expectation like that, your mind will be blown when you see the beast he actually rides atop."

"Also, there was something else I needed to ask you."

"Hmm?" Khalissi perked up with interest the moment I spoke. "What is it?"

"I'm currently at level 41. You said your best guess is that I would evolve at level 50. But that is still too abstract. I need a quantifiable number."

She nodded along, seemingly understanding what I was getting to. For some reason, she seemed excited as she began explaining.

"You need approximately 1,350,000 EXP to evolve from where you currently are. I'll also tell you that the average person in this city gives you around 50 EXP for a kill. So you'll need to kill approximately 27,000 people just to evolve. But no need to fret; the population of this city is roughly 4 million. It's a drop in a bucket."

"Why does it sound as if you have thought about it?" I asked looking at her suspiciously.

A demonic smile rose on her face.

"Of course I have. I'm a demon after all. Killing to level up is part of my very existence. i was taught to do so from the moment I was born."

Khalissi spoke, but I couldn't help but feel as if there was something more behind her smile, something she wasn't telling me.

What Khalissi failed to tell Liam was that when she said he would evolve at level 50, it was merely a guess. But she had a suspicion about his origin, and if she was right and he does take after his mother, then the level at which he would level up would be much, much higher.

She had already done the calculations, and if this was the case, he would need 200,000,000 EXP in order to evolve. With 50 EXP given per kill, that averages out to approximately 4 million people!

The evil smile on Khalissi's face gave me an uneasiness I couldn't shake but this time I decided to brush it off as nothing. I already have lots to think about.

"Lee," suddenly Sylvie interrupted us. "Where will we go now?"

That's right, now that the inn was destroyed, we need somewhere else to stay. It didn't take much thinking for me to come up with a solution.

"For now, we'll spend the night in a hotel," I said.

We went to a hotel not far from where we were. Khalissi paid for the rooms with her blood.

After all that happened today, we were all tired, so we went to our rooms to sleep for the night. I too was drained. Using my special organ to deceive Allucard drained a lot of my stamina so It wasn't long before I closed my eyes and began to pass out.

But before my mind drifted off, I felt something sharp and cold pierce my neck. It was a feeling that I strangely missed.

I opened my eyes to see my cute vampire leech straddling me. She was wearing the white pajamas provided by the hotel. Her breathing was erratic, and her grip on my arm was tight. She moaned softly as she drank my blood and when she finally needed space to breathe, she threw her head back, panting heavily.

"So delicious," she shouted in between gasps.

She stared down at me with predatory eyes before lowering herself and giving me a kiss on the lips. The moment our lips touched, her entire body shivered as if jolted by electricity before sinking in. Her lips were soft. Unbelievably soft.

To initiate a kiss seemed uncharacteristic of her, but I didn't have time to dwell on it. It lasted for only a few seconds; our tongue gliding across each other's before she pulled herself away. Her face looked as if it was heating up, and her heart was beating so fast it sounded as if it wanted to escape her chest.

"Remember, you told me that I should stop denying the things that I want and instead I should take them."

I stared at her blankly still; feeling a bit dazed.

"I don't just want your blood!"

"Is that so?"

"Yes," She nodded her head affirmatively. "From now on, I want everything!"
