Hidden Moth

Chapter 109: Observing Body Observing Myself and Observing Others

Back then, it was at this coffee shop that Meng Ya met with Peng Xian and told him about the bizarre case of the "apple turning into an orange," which happened to be recorded by He Kao's forgotten phone.

Today, Meng Ya subconsciously sat in the same spot, as turning her head would allow her to see the entrance, as if expecting Peng Xian to walk in at any moment and sit opposite her like before.

However, Peng Xian could never come again. Every time someone entered the coffee shop, Meng Ya would look up hopefully, unable to hide her disappointment.

But when He Kao walked in, Meng Ya had a keen intuition that he was the person she was supposed to meet! She stood up instinctively, her hand on the table, opening her mouth to greet him, yet afraid of making a mistake.

Instead, it was He Kao who nodded and greeted her: "Meng Ya, right... Sit over here!"

This was their first meeting, with a very subtle detail: He Kao did not sit opposite Meng Ya, where Peng Xian once sat, but instead went to the adjacent booth, signaling Meng Ya to move over.

The place He Kao chose was back-to-back with the seat where Peng Xian had last sat, the same seat where he had left his phone. It was as if time had traversed, Meng Ya seemed to move from Peng Xian's presence to He Kao's presence.

"Who are you, do you really know about Peng Xian?" Meng Ya couldn't wait to ask before she even sat down.

He Kao replied calmly: "I know you're anxious, but please don't rush. Before we talk about Peng Xian, I also need to clarify your identity; there are things that need confirmation from you."

Meng Ya asked, "What do you want to confirm?"

He Kao scanned the code to order two glasses of lemonade. The server quickly brought them over, greeting him, and upon leaving, took another curious glance at Meng Ya, clearly misunderstanding something.

The server tonight was He Kao's junior, Xiaomiao, not from the Magic Sect, but a classmate a year behind him in graduate school.

He Kao had once worked at this coffee shop, and later Xiaomiao did part-time work here as well. However, Junior Sister Miao probably wouldn't work here much longer, as her thesis was completed, and she would soon defend it.

He Kao pushed the lemonade over, looking up to scrutinize Meng Ya carefully.

This girl appeared somewhat haggard, without makeup, with her hair simply tied in a ponytail, the strands by her forehead a bit messy, and faint blood threads in her eyes, clearly showing signs of stress and lack of rest.

She wore a light blue jacket, with a dark green sweater underneath that looked very stretchy. She wasn't tall, and she wasn't fat either, just with a slightly exaggerated body proportion, making her waist appear slimmer in contrast.

She looked a bit younger than her actual age, with a hint of baby fat on her face.

This should be the type Xiaopang likes! Xiaopang's favorite to draw are two-dimensional pretty girls, and if they were transformed into three-dimensional reality, they'd probably look similar to her... For some reason, He Kao suddenly had this thought.

Meng Ya was inexplicably flustered by He Kao's scrutinizing gaze, and she couldn't help but lower her head, suddenly hearing He Kao ask, "With intention controlling the mind, a disturbed heart finds peace difficult. What's the next line?"

Meng Ya's eyes brightened, she quickly raised her head and said, "With the body controlling the heart, harmony leads the mind to see peace."

He Kao continued expressionlessly, "Lowering the curtain and listening suddenly seems to see, what's the next line?"

Meng Ya immediately replied, "A quiet room births clarity, for I observe the body." Then she cautiously, with a voice carrying excitement and anticipation, asked, "Are you the Sorcerer of the Observing Body Sect, specifically here to find me?"

He Kao did not answer, instead launching into a long recitation, speaking as if from memory, before finally asking, "What was that passage I just recited?"

Meng Ya's chest heaved as she tried to suppress her excitement, "It's the technique of the Observing Body Skill, the one Peng Xian taught me!"

No wonder she was excited; she instinctively thought that it was the Sorcerer from the Observing Body Sect coming to investigate and confirm her learning of the technique with Peng Xian. The earlier words appeared to be the perfect signal for identification.

It all matched, it was one of their own!

He Kao still expressionlessly asked, "How did you meet Peng Xian, how did you obtain the technique, what did Peng Xian tell you, and what did he have you do afterward... please tell me truthfully, otherwise, I cannot help you."

Meng Ya couldn't help but ask another question: "Do you know where Peng Xian went, how is he now?"

He Kao: "A lot has happened recently in the Magic Sect, all very important matters, and Peng Xian is somewhat related to them. But I can only tell you after confirming your situation."

Peng Xian had solemnly reminded Meng Ya that a Sorcerer must act secretly, never revealing their identity or relevant information to anyone outside the Magic Sect.

But He Kao's previous words had dismantled this barrier, now it's Meng Ya who had to gain his trust as much as possible.

Meng Ya took a sip of water and began to speak in a lowered voice. She spoke in detail, trying to present various details clearly, but truthfully, there wasn't much she could tell.

It was only now that Meng Ya realized that she barely understood, or more accurately, did not understand Peng Xian at all. Besides learning the technique with Peng Xian and following Peng Xian's various arrangements, there was little contact in other areas!

She detailed one experience, because it happened in this very place, during her last meeting with Peng Xian. Peng Xian asked her if she knew what Hidden Moth was, then explained the identity and origins of Hidden Moth and its wonders.
