Hidden Moth

Chapter 143: A Night Standing Gracefully Amid Spring Rain

Whether it's He Kao himself or Huang Xiaopang, if they don't want to reveal the identity of Hidden Moth, the wisest choice is to quickly destroy that loan document.

He Kao can pay back Qian to Huang Xiaopang and tell He Shan that everything is resolved, then advise them not to let the word out.

But He Kao almost messed things up; if someone investigates, that loan document would be an obvious flaw... how could he make such a blunder?

He Kao contacted Xiaopang on the road first and then went to find Mrs. Chen when he got to town. He told Mrs. Chen that he had paid the money back to Xiaopang on behalf of Xiaoshan, the debt was on him, and he hoped the two families wouldn't have any more conflicts.

Mrs. Chen smiled bitterly and said, "You kid, you always like to take things upon yourself. It'd be nice if Xiaopang were as obedient as you! Actually, there really isn't much of a conflict, but things aren't always as you imagine."

As for what the matter really was, Mrs. Chen hesitated to speak.

He Kao then hurried to his aunt's house and told his uncle and aunt that he had already paid Xiaopang the money, and his uncle or Xiaoshan wouldn't need to write any more IOUs.

He also didn't require Xiaoshan to repay the money, and as for the loan document, just burn it... Watching the material turn to ashes in the stove, He Kao finally let out half a sigh of relief.

This was the remedy He Kao could think of in the shortest time; as long as it didn't attract the attention of the lending company, the trouble wouldn't be too big.

He heard that the Internet finance company hadn't closed down yet, and the boss behind it was Gu Ziyuan. After He Kao took down Gu Yunteng, he had too many things to deal with and hadn't gotten around to Gu Ziyuan for the time being.

Presumably, Gu Ziyuan had more issues, busy fighting for control over Bada Group, and after ordering someone to weld shut the door of the house in Guanliu District, he hadn't had time to cause trouble for He Kao.

It seems still necessary to find an opportunity to make that company disappear, which would be more reassuring.

Aunt leaned over and asked softly, "Xiao Kao, do you really not want us to repay the money?" She had already called Mrs. Chen to confirm the matter.

He Kao: "I didn't even let you write an IOU, of course, I don't need you to repay it."

Aunt muttered, "It's all that damn Xiaopang's fault for interfering, this debt shouldn't be acknowledged at all! He took on the debt and then let his mom ask us for money, how is that different from those who lend at high interest?"

He Kao said sternly, "Mrs. Chen never asked you for money, she just told you about it. I was the one who made the mistake here; Xiaopang originally didn't plan to say anything, I was the one who told Mrs. Chen."

Then he turned to He Shan, who was standing with her head down and not daring to speak, and said, "Don't listen to your mom, especially not when she talks about Xiaopang, not a single word!

Think about it, Xiaopang heard of this matter and took the initiative to help you resolve the trouble without even telling you. Where can you find someone like that? Among the people you know, who else would do so?

Aunt said unhappily, "Xiao Kao, what do you mean by this?"

He Kao: "That's exactly what I mean, aunt, you should also think about it."

Uncle interjected, "Since the matter is resolved, there's no need to bicker here. Xiao Kao, join us for dinner later, come over tomorrow too..."

He Kao: "I won't stay for dinner, there's something else I want to ask you, did you take the 20,000 dollars from Xiaoshan?"

Wei Luo made a prediction, and He Kao very much hoped that his aunt and uncle hadn't done it. Aunt turned pale and said, "Did Xiaoshan tell you about that? She owed so much debt, and I was helping her with the money..."

He Kao sighed internally, as expected, Wei Luo was right. He interrupted his aunt, "Helping her save for debt, right? This money was originally her savings for debt repayment, now that I've cleared her debts, return it to her."

Aunt raised her voice, "I have to keep that money safe for her, how can I let her spend it freely? Even without this debt, we need to save for her dowry..."

He Kao ignored his aunt and looked at his uncle, "These years, Xiaoshan has been helping manage the family business, how much have you given her in compensation? She's an adult now, you even find excuses to take the little pocket money she's saved?

You two are harsher than capitalists! For years, you've used helping to save for dowry as an excuse, making her work for free at home, I don't get it, just how much dowry does she need?

As long as she's unmarried, does that mean she's not a person? Just because she works for you, does that mean she's not entitled to live well?

If you'd have been reasonable, she wouldn't have had to deal with small loans rolled over from her school days till now, accumulating into so much. The more you act like this, the more she owes, can't you see this logic?

Aunt's face turned red, "You little brat, how dare you lecture your elders!"

He Changshan stepped in between the two, "It's the New Year, can't we all speak nicely?"

He Kao was somewhat agitated but had calmed down by now, changing his tone, "I was wrong! I came today to greet you for the New Year, wishing aunt, uncle, and Xiaoshan an early new year!

I won't be here tomorrow, I'm going on a road trip later, leaving soon."

He Kao didn't want to reason with his aunt about this anymore; he gave up.

At this moment, he also understood why Xiaoshan did not dare to tell her family about her troubles because once spoken, there would be no good outcome, whether in debt or saving money.

If he must acknowledge these relatives, he must accept them as they are and then figure out how to deal with them.
