Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 13: Glacier Crevasse

Crossing the glacier without encountering ice crevasses is quite safe.

Just like now.

Hua Yun led the way, constantly probing the snow with a snow pole, creating a very safe path.

Chen Wen followed behind, not needing to think.

He just had to step in Hua Yun's footprints.

Behind him, being dragged along, was a bighorn sheep, and atop the sheep, a single Golden Eagle was chatting endlessly about how to capture the heart of a beautiful Golden Eagle.

Truly a talkative eagle.

Chen Wen was speechless.

Among the three species capable of conversing so far.

The bobcat was notably calm and aloof, like a career successful businesswoman.

The horned owl was a bit naïve, like a young girl who has just become a wife.

The Golden Eagle, however, was like a drunken middle-aged bachelor, full of complaints with no one to share with, until he met Chen Wen.

These special animals really have distinct personalities!

Chen Wen shook his head.

At the same time, he was somewhat puzzled, what exactly is special about these animals?

Even now, Chen Wen didn't know what common traits the three special animals he encountered had.

While Chen Wen was pondering.

Hua Yun ahead issued a warning: "This is a relatively wide ice crevasse, we have to jump over it, be careful!"

Hearing that, Chen Wen looked up and glanced at the place Hua Yun mentioned.

"Goodness, this is more than a meter wide, right?"

Chen Wen couldn't help but gasp.

He saw Hua Yun use a snow pole to clear away the loose snow, revealing a deep crevasse.

"This is still the narrow part, can you jump over?"

Hua Yun asked.

"It's just a meter."

Chen Wen approached the ice crevasse and looked down.

The ice crevasse was extremely deep, and from top to bottom, the color of the ice changed from pure white to deep blue, and finally pitch black.

Just looking at it, Chen Wen could feel the darkness and cold at the bottom of the crevasse.

"I'll go first, be careful."

Hua Yun said, then powered up and jumped forward.

After landing steadily, Hua Yun looked at Chen Wen.

Chen Wen was unwilling to be left behind.

He pulled the bighorn sheep to his side, exerted force, and easily jumped over the crevasse.

The Golden Eagle spread its wings and flew over with ease.

Chen Wen pulled the bighorn sheep across as well.

Safely across.

Hua Yun nodded and continued to lead the way.

But this ice crevasse was just an appetizer.

As the two continued forward, more and more ice crevasses appeared.

Some were only a few centimeters wide, others nearly three meters!

Hua Yun constantly adjusted the route and moved forward.

But as they moved on, they were no longer walking on the glacial plain.

Instead, they were walking between the ice crevasses.

"We can't keep going like this."

After jumping over a crevasse about one and a half meters wide, Hua Yun called to a halt.

Ahead of her, the ice crevasse had turned into an ice gorge.

This was a glacier melting area, with large amounts of glacier meltwater leaving.

Only those glaciers that hadn't melted remained, forming ice walls standing on the ground.

And between the ice walls were crevasses as wide as gorges.

"Indeed, we can't continue walking here. The glaciers are smooth and have become extremely narrow, making it very dangerous for us to walk on top."

Chen Wen also easily jumped over and dragged the bighorn sheep over.

Walking on this road felt like walking on a tightrope.

The key is the tightrope is made of ice, and there's no telling when you might fall.

"What do we do?"

Chen Wen asked Hua Yun.

Hua Yun suggested that Chen Wen rest first: "Take a break, I'll go ahead and have a look."

With that, Hua Yun carefully continued along the narrow glacier.

Chen Wen sat on the glacier, turned off the radio equipment, planning to bond a little with the Golden Eagle.

And ask if it was thirsty, perhaps getting it to stop talking so much about its romantic history.

...

Soon, Hua Yun returned.

Chen Wen released the Golden Eagle and looked at Hua Yun: "How is it? How do we proceed?"

Hua Yun pointed to the ice crevasse below and said: "From below!"

Chen Wen was startled, looking at where Hua Yun was pointing with some shock.

From the bottom of the ice crevasse?

"That's right, I just walked along this glacier ahead, and I found that this ice crevasse leads directly to the outside ground."

Hua Yun explained: "Among the nearby ice crevasses, this is the only one like that."

"Hiss, but walking through an ice crevasse? What if it's too narrow down there and we can't move?"

Chen Wen was still a bit worried.

He didn't like narrow places very much.

Even watching those cave exploration videos gave him an uncomfortable feeling.

Online, it's said to be called claustrophobia.

Similar to a fear of enclosed spaces.

Hua Yun seemed to notice Chen Wen's concerns.

She reassured Chen Wen: "Don't worry, it's not too narrow at the bottom to pass through. I found a crevasse about ten meters deep ahead, and you can see the situation below, it's quite wide. We can go down there and walk along the crevasse to get out."

Chen Wen held his head and could only agree.

"Mainly this year's weather is unusual, the temperature here is unusually high, and rainfall came late, so the glaciers are not connected as they should be, requiring us to take such a route."

Hua Yun said helplessly: "Moreover, the glacier retreat is severe. According to the record photos, we could have gone further down the glacier, but the glaciers in the front few hundred meters have already disappeared."

Talking about this topic finally took away Chen Wen's fear.

He nodded and said: "The climate is indeed quite unusual. Let's move quickly."

...

Arriving at the location Hua Yun mentioned.

This was indeed a shallower ice crevasse.

Looking down, it was more than a meter wide, so a person could walk easily.

Chen Wen's fear lessened quite a bit.

This time Hua Yun let Chen Wen go down first, holding the rope from above to ensure his safety.

"What about you?"

Chen Wen asked.

Hua Yun assured Chen Wen: "I'm a professional rock climber, this place is relatively easy to climb down."

Whoa, Hua Yun had this skill set too.

Chen Wen muttered.

Without the skill label [Climbing], even though he still had some memory of climbing knowledge, he couldn't be as nimble as he was last time.

After this survival adventure ends, with more free time, he thought about learning skills like rock climbing that are useful for wilderness survival.

Relying solely on skills isn't reliable.

Chen Wen thought to himself.

With Hua Yun's help, Chen Wen left the bighorn sheep above and let Hua Yun hold the rope while he slowly slid downwards.

"Yes, just like that, use your two legs to brace against the front glacier, using counterforce, and your back to support the back glacier, ensuring friction while gradually moving your legs to slowly descend."

Hua Yun reminded Chen Wen, urging him to gradually slide down.

Using Hua Yun's method, Chen Wen successfully descended into the depth of the rock crevice.

After Chen Wen detached the rope, Hua Yun used the rope to pass the bighorn sheep down.

And Hua Yun herself, without the rope, quickly slid down.

"Impressive!"

Chen Wen gave a thumbs-up, very impressed.

Hua Yun smiled, quite pleased with Chen Wen's praise.

She said: "It's a climbing technique, you'll understand once you learn it. Let's go, we need to speed up."

With that, the two quickly advanced along the crevasse.

But they didn't know.

Just as they reached deep inside the crevasse using this method.

In the depths of the glacier, with creaking sounds, a crevasse was expanding.

This glacier was becoming precarious.

With just a bit more pressure, it could collapse with a thunderous crash!
