Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 23: The Golden Eagle Strikes

Arriving at the spot where the white-tailed deer was struck by the arrow, Hua Yun saw the specks of blood.

But it's different from the game.

In reality, prey won't bleed excessively when struck by an arrow.

Therefore, judging the injury of the prey by the amount of bleeding is unrealistic.

"This arrow should have hit the tail or the edge of the lung, maybe even pierced through."

Hua Yun said as she started tracking along the bloodstains.

But as Hua Yun tracked, the Golden Eagle in the sky had already spotted the fleeing deer herd.

It clicked its tongue in disdain, letting out a mocking laugh.

"This human female is really foolish, can't even hunt a deer, seems like that bighorn sheep was hunted by humans."

"Considering it's a human, I'll help you!"

The Golden Eagle swiftly folded its wings and dived rapidly in the direction of the fleeing deer herd.

Just as it swooped down to low altitude, the Golden Eagle suddenly noticed one deer's very unsteady gait.

It seemed injured.

Instinct told the Golden Eagle that injured animals are the easiest catch!

It immediately locked onto the target, adjusted its wings slightly, and swooped toward the injured white-tailed deer.

Upon entering the forest, the Golden Eagle flexibly flapped its wings, closely following the injured deer.

The Golden Eagle rarely preys on adult white-tailed deer, especially the large northern ones.

Because they can't lift these big creatures.

When the Golden Eagle preys on large animals, it lifts them into the sky.

Sometimes they drop their prey to their death, other times, while the Golden Eagle holds the prey, their throat and vital parts have already been torn by the eagle's sharp talons.

When the Golden Eagle lands, the prey has already drawn its last breath.

The Golden Eagle attempted to repeat this trick again.

Its talons suddenly grasped at the injured male white-tailed deer.

But the white-tailed deer was very fast, and the Golden Eagle didn't catch it immediately.

A bit annoyed, it accelerated again, successfully grabbing the deer's body.

As the Golden Eagle succeeded, the white-tailed deer was even more panicked.

It leaped violently, trying to shake off the Golden Eagle this way.

But as the king of birds of prey, even courtship for the Golden Eagle is achieved through aerial acrobatics.

Its body balance is extremely good.

This leap not only failed to shake off the Golden Eagle but made its grip even tighter.

The sharp talons of the Golden Eagle instantly tore the deer's skin.

Blood spurted out.

Exerting more force, the Golden Eagle tried to lift the white-tailed deer off the ground.

But the deer's body was still too heavy, and the Golden Eagle failed.

However, the Golden Eagle succeeded in disrupting the deer's balance with its strength.

At high speed, losing balance is extremely dangerous!

The deer's unbalance successfully caused it to tumble to the ground.

Its body slammed into a pine tree, even making a cracking sound from its bones.

Broken bones!

If Chen Wen were to hear this sound, he would immediately determine the deer's injury.

Moreover, the collision caused the arrow to inflict a secondary injury on the deer.

Seeing the deer fall, the Golden Eagle immediately swooped down.

Its sharp talons tore the deer's throat, and its pointed beak pecked at the deer's eyeballs.

The deer, with its eyes destroyed, lost any possibility of escape.

And the torn throat was a fatal wound!

On the brink of death, the white-tailed deer finally let out a cry of pain.

Hearing the sound from behind, Hua Yun quickly rushed over.

...

Moments later.

Seeing the triumphant Golden Eagle and the completely dead white-tailed deer.

Hua Yun's expression was quite complex.

There was happiness, after all, the deer's death meant the food supply would step up a level.

And it was the Golden Eagle that killed it.

The Golden Eagle's performance made Hua Yun pleasantly surprised; the eagle would play a significant role in their survival this time!

But more than that, there was speechlessness and hidden anger.

The reason being none other.

In killing the deer, the Golden Eagle caused massive bleeding in the deer.

The shattered eyeball was manageable, but the torn throat wound caused the deer to spurt blood.

"Alas, even if you hadn't come, I could have slowly pursued it to death; the result would be unchanged."

Hua Yun looked at the Golden Eagle with a very complex gaze: "But with you here, although you completely killed it, it also puts us in predators' sight!"

Predators can't possibly not smell the scent of blood.

Moreover, such a strong scent, predators would quickly detect the situation here.

But at this point, they couldn't blame the Golden Eagle; after all, it did help.

Hua Yun took out a dagger, choosing to gut the deer on the spot.

She roughly used the dagger to tear open the deer's abdomen and pulled out all the warm innards.

She took the heart with her as per Chen Wen's instructions, leaving the rest behind.

Then Hua Yun grabbed the deer's antlers and quickly dragged it away.

Leaving the innards on-site would delay the predators following the scent.

And during this time, it was enough for Hua Yun to take the deer out.

"Go, get up there!"

Hua Yun patted the Golden Eagle, signaling it to fly high and scout.

While she, carrying the deer's body, started running wildly.

...

As the person and the eagle fled the scene.

A tall grey bear occasionally ran, occasionally stopped.

It was constantly sniffing the air, changing its direction.

As one of the long-time rulers of this valley, the grey bear was in its final years.

With age, its hunting became less effective.

This year, it hadn't stored enough fat for the winter.

This forced the bear to seize any hunting opportunity.

It sprinted to the spot where Hua Yun slaughtered the deer.

The entrails on the ground delighted the grey bear.

After all, it was a free meal; nothing makes a bear happier than getting free food.

It quickly tore and devoured the entrails, swallowing them whole.

It had to hurry because it wasn't the only ruler of this area.

The deer's entrails, being relatively small, couldn't fully satisfy the grey bear.

It licked its bloody lips, looking in the direction Hua Yun fled.

Not enough, it wanted more!

Following the scent in the air, the grey bear slowly followed.

...

By the time the grey bear finished eating, Hua Yun had exited the forest.

She took a detour, not heading directly to the shelter.

Instead, she went to the Yukon River, washing the deer's blood away.

She also cleaned her hands and dagger in the river, reducing her scent as much as possible.

To ensure she wasn't detected, Hua Yun found some moss, crushed it, and applied it on herself.

After finishing everything, she carried the deer to the shelter.

Soon, Chen Wen noticed Hua Yun.

Seeing Hua Yun return with a white-tailed deer, Chen Wen was very pleased.

"Good, good, good, with Hua's efforts, of course, there is!"

Chen Wen praised without reservation: "Just in time, the second batch of smoked meat is about to be ready, this third batch will perfectly continue it!"

Hua Yun reluctantly nodded.

She recounted what had happened to Chen Wen.

After hearing the story, Chen Wen gave the Golden Eagle a surprising look.

This guy could actually hunt a white-tailed deer? He underestimated it.

"No worries, as it's daytime, if the grey bear dares to come."

Chen Wen picked up an axe: "It won't leave alive!"
