Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 39: The Darkened Canadian Lynx

Looking at the once dense food that had become sparse, Chen Wen suddenly felt a surge of resentment.

"Damn it, what kind of creature stole it? You better not let me catch you!"

After a thorough check, Chen Wen's resentment temporarily subsided a bit.

Because he discovered that this thief was rather clever.

It didn't finish stealing from one spot, but instead moved to another location after taking some.

"In total, nearly two pounds of jerky were lost; this creature sure has a big appetite."

Thinking about it, Chen Wen decided not to leave the meat out anymore; instead, he packed all the remaining jerky.

Since the place was no longer safe, there was no need to keep storing jerky there until the threat was eliminated.

After packing the jerky, Chen Wen climbed down from the tree.

He inspected the claw marks left by the thief, and had a rough guess about its identity in his mind.

"It might be a feline. Such sharp claw marks could only have been made by a Canadian lynx or bobcat, nothing else."

Chen Wen left with the supplies.

He returned to the shelter and told Hua Yun about what had just happened.

Upon learning that an unknown animal had found the food storage, Hua Yun was both surprised and a bit fearful.

"Luckily you went there today, otherwise if we waited longer, all our stored food would have been stolen."

"This can only be considered good luck, but I plan to deal with the thief first."

Hearing this, Hua Yun became interested.

Chen Wen mentioned that it wasn't a large animal, and most likely it was either a Canadian lynx or a bobcat.

As long as these two animals dared to appear before Hua Yun, she guaranteed her bow and arrow could take their lives in an instant!

Hua Yun tentatively asked, "So, we'll hunt?"

Chen Wen nodded, "Hunt! We absolutely can't let this sneaky creature get away!"

...

Chen Wen and Hua Yun devised a simple hunting plan to deal with this thieving little rascal.

However, the plan would be executed at night, so the two were temporarily staying at the camp.

Chen Wen helped Hua Yun start processing the bear meat.

The efficiency of the two working together was quite high, and by noon the meat was fully processed.

After stacking the bear meat in the shelter, they began preparing for the night hunt.

Since they needed to stay up late, the two decided to take a nap first.

Half asleep, nightfall arrived.

Chen Wen and Hua Yun had dinner and left the camp with flashlights.

...

With the flashlights, they moved effortlessly through the dead of night.

Soon, they arrived at the spot where the food was stored.

Chen Wen and Hua Yun exchanged glances, and one after the other, they climbed up.

Just like the last time they hunted the bear.

But this time, Chen Wen took the lead.

Chen Wen possessed the[Fur (Mexican Goldback)], which allowed him to sense more in the dark.

Therefore, Chen Wen was in charge of gathering intelligence, while Hua Yun would decide whether to hunt based on his signals.

One after the other, they climbed onto the platform.

Then they covered themselves with Yunshan leaves.

Hua Yun hid in the center, while Chen Wen hid nearer to the side.

To thoroughly mask their scent, Chen Wen and Hua Yun crushed the Yunshan leaves and smeared them on themselves.

Everything was ready, the ambush began.

...

In the Yunshan forest, a black shadow moved nimbly through the trees.

It seemed unfazed by the darkness, as nothing obstructed its path on the ground.

Soon, the shadow effortlessly arrived under Chen Wen's food storage platform.

With a brief build-up of power, the shadow leaped onto the Yunshan Tree with ease.

Its footsteps were so light, nearly silent.

Hua Yun did not sense its presence at first.

If it weren't for Chen Wen's[Fur (Mexican Goldback)]which could feel the air's movement, it might have truly slipped past unnoticed.

But Chen Wen sensed it.

He could distinctly feel something had jumped up.

It was light, yet it caused a tremor on the platform, as well as some air movement.

It's here.

Chen Wen softly tapped Hua Yun's leg to alert her immediately.

Hua Yun instantly turned serious, her gaze locking onto Chen Wen's side.

After the shadow jumped up, it didn't sense anything amiss.

It skirted Chen Wen's ambush point, intending to check the other side of the area.

But just as it passed by Chen Wen,

Chen Wen suddenly moved.

He switched on the flashlight and shone it on the shadow.

The sudden light startled the shadow.

After illuminating the shadow, Chen Wen froze for a moment.

Completely black!

This thieving creature looked like a lynx.

It must be a Canadian lynx, but why is its fur entirely black?

Chen Wen paused for just a second, then shouted, "Get it!"

Hua Yun wasn't one to mess with; the moment Chen Wen shone the light, she swiftly raised her bow and arrow, aiming straight at the shadow less than fifty centimeters away.

Upon receiving the command, Hua Yun quickly analyzed and immediately shot the arrow.

However, the pure black Canadian lynx was much faster than humans.

It jumped forward swiftly, dodging the arrow while extending its paw towards Hua Yun's face.

In a hurry, Hua Yun prepared to take a potential scratch, willing to risk injury to shoot the lynx.

But as the lynx's paw came within just a few centimeters of Hua Yun's face,

A powerful force suddenly hit the lynx from behind.

Trying to run?

Did you ask me first?

Chen Wen was no pushover.

The lynx's move to attack Hua Yun meant its oversight was going to cost it dearly.

Moments before, as the lynx leapt forward, Chen Wen had pushed his[Dynamic Vision]and[Swift]to the limit.

He grabbed the lynx's hind leg just before it could unleash its[Sharp Claw].

He fiercely hauled it back.

With great exertion, Chen Wen slammed the lynx onto the platform.

Thanks to the thick, soft Yunshan leaves, the lynx wasn't harmed.

It let out an intimidating cry.

But compared to the bobcat's intimidating sound, it fell short.

Chen Wen completely ignored the lynx's crow-like squawking and pinned it to the platform with one hand.

Then he picked up an axe.

Chen Wen's eyes gleamed with a fierce light.

Ever since survival began, he had been killing constantly, often in close combat.

Chen Wen's aura of killing was far heavier than Hua Yun's.

As the lynx faced Chen Wen directly, it was already frightened.

It let out a shrill cry, "Don't kill me! Don't kill me! I've been watching you for a long time! I can join you like that big bird!"

To Hua Yun, the shrill cries meant nothing specific, but to Chen Wen,

They transformed into a young female voice.

"Wait!"

Chen Wen signaled to Hua Yun, who had been aiming her bow at the lynx's head, to stop.

Confused, Hua Yun asked, "What's wrong? Could it be some protected animal?"

"Not quite, it's just a color variant of a Canadian lynx."

Chen Wen shook his head, hesitating slightly, "Its cries were a plea for mercy just now."

A plea for mercy?

Hua Yun was a bit bewildered.

"Have you studied the cries of Canadian lynxes?"

Hearing this, Chen Wen nodded slightly.

Having a companion with strong imaginative skills is a blessing!

No need to explain much; they provide the reasonable explanations themselves.

Chen Wen continued, "Overall, I just heard it sounding like a plea for mercy; so, what do you think, should we spare it?"
