Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 75: Unexpected

After the group photo, Chen Wen asked about the situation outside.

"Oh, those are the local kids. The snow has stopped, so they've all come out to clear it. Seeing these... magical animals, they're obviously curious to come over and watch."

The boss said with a smile.

Reindeer are relatively common; there's a farm in town with reindeer.

During hiking season, they even offer reindeer riding services.

In winter, they offer reindeer sleigh services.

But moose are relatively rare.

However, when kids go on outings with their parents, they might spot some wandering moose around town.

As for lynxes, they're even rarer!

And this one is a rare pure black lynx.

The Golden Eagle is even more legendary.

So the kids gathered around, while the parents nervously pulled them back to avoid bothering these wild animals.

When Chen Wen went outside, he saw the Golden Eagle proudly displaying its broad wings.

As it displayed, it said, "These little humans are quite interesting; whenever I spread my wings, they scream."

The lynx was yawning in the small nest prepared by the staff for it.

It didn't care much for human cubs, as long as they didn't bother it.

The moose and reindeer were engrossed in their feeding.

As long as they weren't disturbed during their meal, they wouldn't react aggressively.

Chen Wen thought for a moment and decided to take the lynx and Golden Eagle back inside.

It wasn't quite right to leave them outside like this.

He whistled, and the Golden Eagle turned around, fluttering its wings pridefully, causing the surrounding kids to scream.

"What a big bird!"

"Foolish Moore! That's not a bird; my mom said it's a Golden Eagle!"

"Wow, it's so cool!"

...

The Golden Eagle flapped its wings excitedly and said, "Hey, humans, your cubs look really interesting! As long as I spread my wings, they keep screaming!"

Chen Wen felt a little exasperated.

Goodness, I was worried you'd have some psychological discomfort, but instead, you're just having fun?

Fine.

Chen Wen cradled the lynx and said, "I'm taking it inside; do you want to stay outside?"

"No, I'll go inside too!"

The Golden Eagle shook its wings and landed deftly on Chen Wen's shoulder.

The kids behind them exclaimed again, but soon expressed disappointment.

They hadn't had their fill yet.

...

After settling the Golden Eagle and lynx, Chen Wen let them rest well in his room.

He then went to the fur shop with Hua Yun.

But the unexpected happened; the fur shop owner had left for the nearby city with the year's collected leather.

And he had left several days before the snow.

Chen Wen and Hua Yun looked at each other in dismay.

"What do we do now?"

Hua Yun was a bit bewildered.

Chen Wen was also helpless; the program group didn't know about the fur trader's departure.

They contacted the fur trader, who had sold the leather in the city.

Then he flew directly to the United States for the winter.

He wouldn't return until the ice period ended next year.

This news left Chen Wen and Hua Yun stunned for a long time.

"Well, I guess we'll have to rely on our ancestors' wisdom."

Ultimately, Chen Wen came up with an idea: "We'll have to barter!"

Hua Yun nodded slightly: "There's no other option left, let's go to the clinic first and ask."

They returned to the inn and looked at the closed private clinic next door.

"I'll ask the boss if the clinic's doctor is in."

Chen Wen said, walking into the inn.

After hearing about their predicament, the boss expressed sympathy.

He personally took Chen Wen to knock on the clinic door.

The person who opened the door was far from the white-coated doctor Chen Wen imagined.

"What's up? Laird? Are you asking me out for a drink again?"

A tattooed girl with a nose ring opened the door, leaving just a crack.

She scrutinized Chen Wen and his group through the door gap.

The inn owner, Laird, introduced somewhat awkwardly, "This is the town's doctor, Renia; she's quite skilled."

"Renia, these are the guests I received today and the final contestants of that survival show. They're here to see you for medical help."

Medical help?

Renia glanced at Chen Wen, then at Hua Yun.

Only then did she open the door and wave them in, saying, "Come in."

Walking into the clinic, Chen Wen was amazed.

He had never seen a clinic made to look like a rock record store.

Renia casually pulled up a chair and sat on the other side of the desk.

She asked, "Which of you is sick?"

Chen Wen muttered quietly in Chinese, "Why does this feel unreliable?"

Hua Yun was bewildered by the setup, saying, "I don't know either; a doctor full of personality... I've never seen one like this."

Chen Wen clicked his tongue, resigned. "You go then; treat it like a desperate measure."

Hua Yun nodded but quickly shot Chen Wen a glare.

Who are you talking about?

"What are you two saying?"

Renia asked impatiently, "Hurry up, hurry up; I have things to do later!"

Hua Yun sat in the chair and spoke in English, "It's me, I have a cold and fever."

Renia put away her impatient expression and began thoroughly examining Hua Yun.

After a moment, she said, "It's not severe, just take some medicine and you'll be fine."

Only then did Renia somewhat resemble a doctor.

She carefully instructed Hua Yun on staying warm, maintaining a proper diet, and so on.

Meanwhile, Chen Wen took this time to inspect the clinic's decoration.

Honestly, if he didn't know it was a clinic, just judging by the decor, Chen Wen would think it was a rock bar or something.

The walls weren't adorned with any special medicine offers but various band posters instead.

Wow, all heavy metal bands, quite tasteful.

Chen Wen shook his head.

By then, Hua Yun and Doctor Renia had almost finished talking.

Hua Yun inquired if she could exchange fur for medicine as payment.

Renia was somewhat stunned by this.

She instinctively asked, "You guys don't have money?"

Hua Yun felt a bit embarrassed and explained their situation to Renia.

After hearing their story, Renia laughed heartily, "Haha, you guys are really unlucky."

"Forget it, forget it, these medicines aren't worth much; take them."

Renia searched the guitar-adorned medicine cabinet, found a few boxes of medicine, and placed them on the table.

Before Hua Yun could say anything, she waved them off, "Off you go, off you go, I've got to practice singing. By the way, if you have time tonight, come to the bar and lend your support."

After leaving the clinic, Hua Yun was still in a daze.

"I'm not paying anything?"

Hua Yun questioned in disbelief.

Chen Wen was also puzzled.

He only heard Hua Yun and Renia exchange a few words, then they got some medicine and were ushered out.

"She's truly... quite a unique doctor."

Chen Wen shook his head, left with that impression.

Nonetheless, Hua Yun didn't leave immediately; she felt it was necessary to offer payment.

She selected two fine snowshoe hare pelts, personally handing them to Renia, then finally breathed a sigh of relief.
