Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 107: Joining

The camp mainly consisted of tents.

The winter tents stood tall, forming small rooms where the mercenaries and the production team lived.

Chen Wen took a quick glance.

By tent standards, each tent accommodated two people.

Combined, the mercenaries and the production team had about a hundred people.

But the production team outnumbered the mercenaries.

Chen Wen estimated there were about thirty mercenaries.

There weren't many of them, but their combat ability was undoubtedly strong.

At least the seventy or so production staff didn't dare to resist them.

After placing the transported items in a corner of the camp,

Chen Wen and the production team were brought to the center of the camp by the mercenaries, waiting for orders.

Seeing the mercenaries were not managing strictly, Chen Wen lowered his body, squeezed through the crowd, and approached Hua Yun's side.

After the two met up, they deliberately walked to a corner.

"How's the intel gathering?"

Chen Wen asked in Chinese.

Hua Yun shook his head, "Not much, but what I can confirm is that these people have kidnapped the production team for something important, and the team knows about its existence."

Chen Wen nodded slightly, cross-referencing it with the information he had.

"These people belong to a mercenary group, doesn't seem like a particularly elite one. They have many weapons, not many guns, but so far, they haven't harmed anyone. They're not here to kill, maybe just for money."

Saying this, Chen Wen paused and looked around.

Seeing no one was paying attention, he continued, "They're also out of contact with the production team's base camp."

Collating the information, Hua Yun said, "I speculate there might be some treasure in the mountains, and these mercenary groups have come for it."

Treasure?

Suddenly a light bulb went off in Chen Wen's mind.

He vaguely remembered hearing about a treasure somewhere, or maybe he had seen it.

But he couldn't recall it instantly.

Just then, amid a commotion, a middle-aged white man and a black man approached.

The black man was likely the leader of the mercenary group.

Chen Wen silently thought, deliberately stepping away from Hua Yun.

The two walked up to the crowd. The middle-aged white man clapped his hands, catching everyone's attention.

"Ahem, the boss has something to say, listen up! Squat down!"

After the white man spoke, he turned his head towards the black man.

The black man said, "Everyone, our Desert Wolf Mercenary Corps did not come here to harm you, so I need your cooperation."

"As you can see, we are currently being hit by a snowstorm. The current camp cannot withstand the upcoming snow. I had a brief conversation with your leader—Jiao."

"Starting today, under Jiao's leadership, you'll need to chop wood and build makeshift shelters. We need to work together to survive the snowstorm."

"Once the snow stops, we'll set you free. But that requires your cooperation. If I find anyone not cooperating, or doing anything inappropriate stealthily..."

He took out the pistol from his waist.

From a distance, it looked like a Desert Eagle, a type of large-caliber handgun.

"You should all recognize this, right?"

The crowd was silent, everyone familiar with the notorious name of the carbon-based biological calming device.

"Good, that's the cooperative spirit I want to see."

The black man was satisfied with the atmosphere.

Just then, he seemed to recall something.

The black man asked, "I heard we captured the last two survivors today? Where are they?"

Chen Wen promptly raised his hand, like a student volunteering in an open lecture after the teacher instructed beforehand.

Hua Yun quickly followed suit.

"You two, come here."

The black man waved them over.

Despite feeling somewhat nervous, Chen Wen promptly stood up and stepped out of the crowd.

He looked harmless, paired with his rather youthful face, which was quite deceptive.

And Hua Yun also hurried over, slightly bowing her head, trying not to reveal any guilt.

The black man scrutinized them for a bit, finding them seemingly harmless.

One appeared quite young, the other looked like a sturdier woman.

They posed no threat to him.

Considering their identities, the black man said, "Go stay with your companions. They'll tell you what to do. Remember, without permission, you're not to leave the camp."

The black man thought he made a good arrangement.

Trapping these wilderness survivors in the camp with dedicated guards watching over them.

As long as they don't enter the wild, they're no different from ordinary people, perhaps only a bit tougher.

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen immediately said, "Alright, I'll follow your arrangement."

After years of experience, Chen Wen understood that, in most situations, attitude is a valuable thing.

As long as you appear compliant, others won't give you trouble.

Of course, exceptions exist.

But this time, there seemed to be no such exceptions.

The attention of the black mercenary leader was clearly elsewhere. He waved his hand, signaling a mercenary on the side to take Chen Wen and Hua Yun away.

Meanwhile, the rest were assigned to rest in the tents.

As they left, the middle-aged white man asked, "Boss, any leads on the items?"

Upon hearing this, the black man looked worried, "I'm concerned about it. The ice layer is too thick. Each survey requires breaking a portion of it, which is very labor-intensive. Progress is slow."

"But we can confirm the gold is beneath this lake. Those people discovered a letter inscribed on a rock nearby."

"The letter indicated the two individuals sunk the gold in the lake, and the map to the gold mine is locked with it."

Upon hearing this, the middle-aged white man sighed, "At least there's some news. But we have to move quickly. Once this snowstorm ends, someone outside will surely send people to check the situation, whether it's Pat or Belmont."

"Hmm, keep an eye on the camp. I'll go check on it."

The black man said as he quickly walked away.

...

While the two mercenary leaders were conversing,

Chen Wen, Hua Yun, and their adversaries met.

Seeing the two, Hank's group's faces were filled with surprise.

"What happened to you two...?"

As a compatriot, Yang Feng spoke first, "How did you get caught?"

Although Hua Yun didn't get along well with Yang Feng, she still recounted what happened to him.

Speaking in Chinese.

Yang Feng clicked his tongue, full of emotion, "Damn, what bad luck! We finally got to participate in a show, and this happened."

As he spoke, he glanced at Chen Wen.

Previously, Yang Feng hadn't spoken much with Chen Wen, and the two weren't well-acquainted.

After thinking for a moment, Yang Feng said, "Have you been assigned tasks too?"

Chen Wen nodded, cheerfully saying, "Mr. Yang, no matter what, we're in the same boat now. Let's look out for each other."

"Of course, of course."

Yang Feng also knew the importance of sticking together.

Over the past few days, he hadn't had much luck connecting with Hank, Ludwig, or finding much to say with Jenny.

Now, with two fellow nationals, he definitely wanted to reach out.

After a brief conversation, Chen Wen and Hua Yun also got busy.

Their task was to cook, providing food for the camp's many inhabitants.

Of course, there were also production team members cooking nearby.

Surrounding them were mercenaries supervising, six in total, all armed.

Chen Wen made no unruly moves, diligently following Yang Feng in slicing meat.

The mercenaries saw the newcomers were compliant and didn't make things difficult for them.

They just urged everyone to speed up.
