Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 30: Trap Complete Ready to Head Out to Sea

It was beyond everyone's expectations.

Chen Wen didn't lose his temper or put on a sour face.

After listening to what happened, he just smiled, put his arm around Bai Yachuan's shoulder, and said, "Hey, I thought it was something serious."

"It's no big deal if the fishing rod is broken. It was already battle-worn to begin with, as long as nobody's hurt, it's fine."

"Food is easy to solve as well. We have plenty stored up, not to mention a good amount of smoked fish. That's enough to last us several days."

"These days, the field team should continue working on the weir fish trap, don't worry about anything else. Zhuo and Wang Zhi aren't back yet? Never mind, the two of them can manage digging cassava."

"Cassava paired with smoked fish can last us a good many days."

"Once we get the trap set up, we'll have plenty of seafood to eat too."

"Shan, we'll work a bit harder over the next few days; we need to finish the bed and then start on the bamboo raft. In a few days, we'll take the raft to fish at the coral reef!"

"There's the real haul at the coral reef! Lobsters weighing four or five pounds, groupers over ten pounds, even bigger fish are plenty there! That's where the real fishing is, a trip could get us food for days!"

"Even if the fishing rod wasn't broken, I was planning on taking people to dive and fish at the coral reef these days!"

Listening to Chen Wen's analysis, everyone was a bit stunned.

They originally thought the broken fishing rod was a disaster.

But listening to Chen Wen, it didn't seem like a big deal at all?

"There's that much fish at the coral reef?"

Lu Heng couldn't help but ask.

Chen Wen chuckled, "Even more than you imagine! Last time I went, I even managed to deal with a shark over a meter long, what do you think?"

"Forget about sharks, just catching some grouper is fine. Sharks... I'm not even brave enough to eat them."

Lu Heng said sheepishly.

"Alright, stop standing around, let's take a break and have some food."

Chen Wen said with a smile, "Besides, let's not eat this pig yet, let's eat the chicken first. I have other plans for this pig."

"Alright."

Everyone nodded in agreement and then sat down on their own designated rocks.

Watching this, Yan Bian was amazed.

The men's group seemed to have no particular personalities on the surface.

But in reality, they weren't very easy to get along with.

How many days has Chen Wen been here?

And yet he managed to gain everyone's respect?

He could see it clearly.

Before Chen Wen spoke, both the stubborn Lu Heng and the slacker Du Feng were standing.

"Yan, why are you standing there?"

Before Yan Bian could think further, Chen Wen came over, waving his hand in front of Yan Bian's face.

"Nothing much, should we tie up the pig?"

"Yeah, give me a hand!"

...

After lunch.

Chen Wen found some cassava, planning to feed it to the pig to see if he could tame it as he did the chickens.

The pig seemed to really enjoy it, but there was still no sign from the system.

It seemed that taming this guy in the short term would be a bit difficult.

In the afternoon,

Chen Wen joined the stone-moving team.

He planned to speed up the construction of the weir fish trap.

The camp was still divided into three groups.

The support team was responsible for making beds and preparing boats.

The exploration team was digging cassava and cutting bamboo.

The field team, led by Chen Wen, was fully committed to constructing the weir.

...

Very soon,

it was the nineteenth day of survival.

After days of hard work, the construction of the weir fish trap was in its final stage.

After breakfast, Chen Wen led everyone to the southern reef.

"Today is for finishing touches. Mr. Bai and I will go down to check, and once we're done, Lu, you will throw in the kitchen waste we've collected over the past few days."

As they walked, Chen Wen assigned the tasks.

For these past days, Chen Wen had been taking the lead, moving stones with everyone, and going underwater to build the weir.

The field team saw all of this.

Lu Heng asked, "Mr. Chen, what's the point of throwing in the kitchen waste?"

"To lure in sea creatures."

Chen Wen replied with a smile, "Marine life actively looks for places where food resources are rich. Our leftover bones, bits of meat, and animal guts make perfect bait."

"Just think about it, on an endless beach, suddenly! You catch a whiff of the smell of meat, wouldn't you be drawn to where that scent is coming from?"

Hearing this, Lu Heng nodded thoughtfully, "Indeed."

"So throwing this stuff into the trap will attract many sea creatures. When the tide retreats, the water will flow out through the gaps in the trap, and the sea life that came in to feed will be trapped. We can just come during low tide and collect them."

As Chen Wen spoke, they had already reached the triangular reef.

After days of modification, the entire triangular reef area looked completely different.

The opening was barricaded with stones by everyone.

Large stones at the bottom, medium stones stacked high, and small stones filling the gaps.

Besides seawater and small creatures, most other beings couldn't get out.

Today they were here to perfect it.

Chen Wen and Bai Yachuan went into the water to find the weak spots.

"Hu, throw me two small stones, long ones."

After walking a few steps, Chen Wen called to Zhang Hu.

Zhang Hu selected suitable stones and tossed them to Chen Wen.

Chen Wen wedged the small stones into gaps between larger stones.

Then he continued looking for the next weak point.

Half an hour later, Chen Wen and Bai Yachuan came ashore.

"Let's go, it seems fine for now. Lu, throw in the trash. We'll come back to check tomorrow."

...

After finishing with the trap, they returned to camp.

"How's the boat coming?"

Chen Wen asked Gan Tieshan.

As the camp's best craftsman, Gan Tieshan was in charge of almost all manufacturing tasks.

"It's alright; I've prepped all the bamboo. Next is just assembling it."

Chen Wen nodded, "For the assembly, we should do it by the sea. I'll take some people to move the bamboo to the north, assemble it there, and put it straight into the water."

After some discussion about the assembly details,

Chen Wen, Bai Yachuan, and another person each carried bamboo and materials for securing the bamboo—net ropes, bamboo strips, and thin branches—to the coral reef in the northwest corner.

Assembling the bamboo raft wasn't too difficult.

In the initial treatment phase, Gan Tieshan had baked the bamboo raft lightly.

Then he used an axe to cut the bamboo into roughly the same lengths.

Finally, holes were made at both ends of the bamboo with a knife.

By the seaside, the nine bamboo poles were neatly arranged together.

Chen Wen then threaded slender branches through the small holes, binding the nine bamboo poles together.

At last, bamboo strips fixed the slender branches and bamboo together, with ropes tied to secure them.

"Shall we try it in the water?"

Chen Wen, eager to try, said as he eyed the completed bamboo raft.

Bai Yachuan was also itching to try, "Let's try it, it's just a trip to the coral reef, it's very close."

Chen Wen nodded and looked at Lu Heng and Zhang Hu, "How's your swimming?"

Zhang Hu shook his head—being from inland, he wasn't skilled in swimming in the sea.

But Lu Heng didn't mind.

Already a swimmer, his curiosity led him to decide to go with Chen Wen to take a spin around the coral reef.

"Then Hu, please head back and let everyone know we're going to test the bamboo raft in the water. We'll be back a bit later than noon."

Chen Wen added, "Be careful on your way."

"Got it!"

Zhang Hu waved and didn't linger.

The weather had been hot and the sun intense these days; he didn't want to wait idly by the beach.

After Zhang Hu left, the three of them pushed the bamboo raft into the water.
