I Will Teach You How to Hunt Gods

Chapter 169: Violence

Whoosh——

As the gates of the mine opened, workers eager to risk their lives for Tiger Head Heavy Industries rushed in, one after another, passing through the checkpoints.

At the same time, the protesters noticed the open gate and crowded over without hesitation, holding signs and banners, intending to break into the mine and demand an explanation from the company.

Though fewer in number than the regular workers, they were incredibly united, forming a huge wave of people that swept over like a dark cloud.

Seeing this, the regular workers quickly stepped aside, not daring to block this furious crowd.

In just a few minutes, the crowd had broken through several checkpoints.

The guards at the last checkpoint, seeing the situation, frowned and quickly drew their batons, yet were too afraid to incur the crowd's wrath, and so delayed taking action.

It wasn't until the crowd was almost upon them that some guards couldn't sit still any longer and hurriedly went to fetch Captain Lao Wang from the security department.

"What are you doing? Why aren't you taking action?"

Seeing the enraged crowd outside the checkpoint, Lao Wang was both shocked and angry, the calm on his face disappearing entirely.

"There... there are too many of them! Captain, we're afraid to fight!"

A young guard, holding up a riot shield against the crowd's impact, explained helplessly: "If we provoke their anger, there's so few of us, we're likely to be overwhelmed instantly..."

"Fools!"

Lao Wang, seething with rage, scolded: "You're afraid of this crowd, but aren't you afraid of Lord Yang Lie?

"It's the Lord's birthday today, all the company executives are in the Headquarters Building throwing him a party, and there's a huge crowd of reporters... Any one of them could crush us with their pinky."

"What do you want them to see? That on such a festive day, the security department neglected its duty and let this rabble in to embarrass them? Or do you want to give those paparazzi top headline material? Making tomorrow's front page news: [Tiger Head Heavy Industries, mismanaged, oppresses citizens]?"

"How many heads do you have to lose?"

As the head of security, Lao Wang spared no courtesy, his words causing the guards to blush with embarrassment.

"But... but we're afraid we won't win..."

The young guard, stiff-necked, wanted to protest, but Lao Wang didn't give him the chance.

"Shut up and watch how it's done!"

He left with a curse and, relying on the jumping prosthetic body in his leg, leaped over the human wall and dove into the crowd causing trouble.

His target was very clear. He didn't assault the adults or the solitary elderly but instead grabbed a girl under ten! Then, before the crowd could react, he jumped back over the checkpoint with the child.

"Waaah...!"

The child, never having been so frightened, burst into tears immediately.

It was only then that most of the crowd realized what happened, freezing in place, while the child's mother and relatives, panicked, shouted with a choked voice.

"You... let them go!"

Naturally, Lao Wang didn't release the "hostage" from his grasp.

Not only did he not let go, but he also revealed a cunning smile, squeezing the child's arm with a gentle force—

Snap~!

The bone broke with a sound, blood splattered along with the child's pitiful cries, landing on Lao Wang and the guards' faces.

Instantly, the crowd was silent for a few seconds, followed by waves of furious roars.

"Bastard... bastard!"

"Everyone, rush in! Beat this beast to death!"

"Let's all charge! They can't stop us!"

People clenched their fists, eyes burning with rage, eager to tear the entire security department into pieces.

The guards were terrified.

Especially the younger guard, equally frightened by the crowd and shocked by Lao Wang's methods.

But Lao Wang himself was undeterred, instead, he grinned viciously and grabbed the child's other arm, twisting it again...

Crack!

The bone fractured, blood splattering all over Lao Wang's hand.

The child had already passed out from the pain, not understanding why he and his family had to endure such suffering.

His father had disappeared in the mines a month ago, with his body still unfound. He and his mother sought justice, but instead faced torment from the mine's guards.

Could it be... this damned Nest City has no "justice"?

In reality, perhaps there truly is none...

The child's mother and over-seventy-year-old grandfather collapsed completely, while the others, driven by anger, advanced again, forcing the guards to retreat continuously.

But suddenly, all the people's steps stopped, their eyes flashing with terror and disbelief.

They saw Lao Wang's hand slowly move to the girl's neck, his fingers slightly twitching in a "strangling" gesture.

The meaning was simple: take one more step, and prepare to bury this child.

No one dared to bet whether he would actually do it.

To kill in broad daylight, especially in front of so many witnesses, even in a rotten place like Nest City, would undoubtedly be against the law.

But... knowing he's breaking the law, so what? Pray for the police to arrest him? Don't be ridiculous.

Every citizen of Nest City knows, the cops aren't on their side.

They don't dare touch corporate people.

And even [SWAT], special police like that, dare not interfere in this matter.

Because Lao Wang's master walks beyond the rules, he's an Apprentice Death God.

"Do you all see?"

Seeing the crowd intimidated, Lao Wang shook the girl in his hand triumphantly.

His gaze swept over all his subordinates, finally resting on the young guard, with a look full of "lessons" in his eyes.

"If you decide to work for the corporation, you must discard all empathy within you."

"Boundaries and sympathy are the most useless things; only sheep are shackled by them."

"Once you discard such useless emotions, you'll find that most of the common people in this world are easy to manipulate. Seize their bottom line, and you can twist them at will, as easy as molding clay."

After his lesson, Lao Wang set the girl on the ground, then swaggered and pointed at the crowd, sneering: "Now, get lost."

"You can cause a scene outside the gate, but know this, no one cares if a sewer rat jumps high."

"But if you dare show your face and cause trouble publicly, don't blame the heavens or the earth, it's disgusting to hear."

Saying this, he looked over at the group intending to sign up for work, casually saying: "Alright, those undocumented and kids ready to work, come and register..."

"But make sure you understand, no troublemaking, otherwise... this little brat will be your end!"

He pointed to the girl on the ground with her broken arms, his tone cold as ever.
