My Notoriety Spreads Throughout the World

Chapter 136: Fogman [Double-Length]_2

"Something's wrong."

"On the road we came from, were there trees too?"

Tang Xin's words immediately put everyone on alert, and they turned around.

Sure enough, on the road behind them, they saw similar figures, and not just one.

At a glance, there were nearly a dozen such figures, each with a different shape. Some resembled crosses, others were like peculiar angular rocks, more stood there solitary, unmoving like snow-covered pines, blending seamlessly with the environment.

A strange sound floated in the air. The sound was faint, and it wasn't until now that they could hear it clearly. It sounded like a woman's sobs or a sharp, eerie laughter.

"They are supernatural creatures, and they appear in groups," Xu Xiaoyou quickly deduced. "We're surrounded."

"This dense fog is probably connected to their characteristics!"

Unease rose in everyone's hearts, and a sense of crisis descended suddenly.

Chen San's face darkened slightly as he quickly walked to the front of the car with repair tools, calmly fixing the frozen engine and replacing parts.

"Keep an eye on them, don't let them get closer. Once the car is fixed, we'll rush out immediately!"

Upon hearing this, everyone present reacted promptly. Lin Sheng quietly manifested a Beheading Great Saber, while Lin Xing, beside him, conjured two short daggers in his hands; this was the mimicry of the Shadow Brothers. Tang Xin quickly moved to Xu Xiaoyou's side, and Xiaoxin flapped her wings, flying out from behind her head.

"They don't seem to have any intention of attacking us," Lin Xing remarked. "At least for the moment."

The tense atmosphere spread as neither side dared to act rashly. They maintained a standoff from about a hundred meters apart until, after two minutes, at a certain instant, the four of them blinked simultaneously.

A piercing roar echoed above the entire road.

"Lin Xing!" Lin Sheng shouted.

Before the young man, a pale-skinned monster appeared unnoticed. It stood nearly three meters tall, with decaying skin that hung like tattered cloth revealing red muscles beneath, its rod-like arms severely disproportionate to its normal body frame, casting a giant shadow over the young man's body.

Lin Xing slowly looked up, meeting the monster's hideous face, scarlet eyes, and an elongated jaw; its masticatory muscles were tearing, nearly dragging on the ground.

At that moment, the monster maintained a posture with its arms spread wide, the gaping mouth filled with sharp, terrifying teeth, as if intending to swallow the young man whole.

"Don't look into its eyes!" Xu Xiaoyou yelled, sensing something.

The motionless monster abruptly contorted with extreme pain the instant the young man's gaze met its scarlet eyes, clutching its head, squatting on the ground, its body convulsed violently, and its voice turned to a shrill, stuttering sound, reminiscent of a damaged old record.

"Damn it, what the hell is this!"

Lin Xing cursed, his body instinctively reacting, the dual daggers slashing arcs in front, decapitating the monster in front of him!

The Fogman's head rose, and its towering body fell straight to the ground, emitting a dull sound.

Its blood stained the white fog, a bloody scent wafting.

Everyone looked around and discovered that the number of monsters in the dense fog had increased significantly. Earlier, there were only a dozen, but now at both ends of the road, shadows were faintly discernible in the thick fog, estimated to be over a hundred, closing in on their position!

Previously, those monsters were a hundred meters away, but now, except for the one Lin Xing killed, the nearest one was merely ten meters away from them, bizarre red lights illuminating like red lanterns, one after another.

In an instant, several more Fogmen emitted sharp, stuttering strange cries, charging out of the mist.

Lin Xing moved swiftly, his body seemingly immersed in shadow, several cold beams sliced through the dense fog, dealing with all of them before they could reach the others.

As a Three Tier assassin, accomplishing all of this in mere blinks wasn't a challenge, not even a warm-up.

"Don't look into their eyes, keep your focus on their bodies. As long as we keep our eyes on these creatures, they can't move!" Xu Xiaoyou called out, having discerned the Fogmen's characteristic.

Everyone nodded, rapidly shifting positions, standing at the front and back of the off-road vehicle, ensuring their sightlines could cover every inch of the vicinity, leaving no blind spots.

Afterward, Xu Xiaoyou maintained her gaze, walked to the off-road vehicle, opened the door, and took out a sniper rifle.

After chambering a round, she stepped back with her right foot, rested the butt of the gun on her shoulder, used the car door to steady the rifle, aiming while slowly placing her finger on the trigger.

She exhaled slowly, heart calm and focused.

The gunpowder within the chamber exploded upon striking the percussion cap, fiery energy propelling the scorching red bullet that spun rapidly as it exited the barrel, burning flame shattered the fog, and tore through the air.

A sharp whistling sound pierced through, and a tall figure in the fog fell with a dull noise.

White smoke billowed from the gas port of the metal gun, scorching the face of the blonde girl, tiny sparks flickered. In an instant, the sound of intake air was replaced by the low, resonant gunfire, like the whisper of the Grim Reaper within the fog.

The second figure collapsed, followed by a third, a fourth... with each trigger pull, a bullet accurately struck a creature within the mist. Above the dense fog, a black silhouette of death appeared, wielding a giant scythe, and with every gunshot, it swung the scythe to slice through the fog, claiming another life.

The hundred-meter distance vanished in a flash, the bullet came bearing lethal intent, blood splattered, and another Fogman silhouette fell, the gun stock slapping against Xu Xiaoyou's shoulder. She slightly turned her body, redirected her aim, fingertips adjusting slightly along the gun's mount.

The girl's display surprised the team members, especially Chen San, who glanced deeply at her while repairing the engine. Such a level of spear technique, he had only seen from those proficient in firearms at the agency, individuals professionally trained, who, compared to handling tasks related to supernatural creatures, operated more in the world's shadows, undertaking assassinations and discreet chores for prominent figures.

The moaning, sharp noises reverberated above the fog, and the creatures seemed to sense fear, the tall figures at the rear, originally beyond anyone's sight, slowed their advance, and halted somewhere, remaining motionless.

After picking off three more Fogmen, Xu Xiaoyou showed no sign of relaxation, if anything, her tension heightened, discreetly checking the magazine, finding it empty.

An ominous premonition emerged, what they emitted wasn't fear, but restrained excitement, akin to wolves eyeing a prey, about to commence a feast of flesh and blood.

The sensation grew increasingly intense, Xu Xiaoyou sought the source of this anomalous feeling, her eyes swept over the valley, and further along the Ring Mountain Road, suddenly, she noticed something. Beneath the broken metal guardrail on the left side of the road, she heard heavy breathing.

Simultaneously, Tang Xin's voice echoed in her ear.

"You, watch out on your left!"

In an instant, Xu Xiaoyou adjusted her aim, several monsters pounced from below the guardrail, their gaping maws lunging straight at her.

At that exact moment, Lin Sheng appeared in front of her, the Beheading Great Saber slicing forward, the obliterating blade light split those monsters in two, rain of blood pouring down!

"Retreat!" he shouted, his voice loud and fierce, commanding like a tiger.

Xu Xiaoyou quickly retreated a few steps.

Amidst the dense pine forest in the mountainside, red light flickered everywhere, at a glance, countless monsters were clinging to the hundred-meter-high cliff face, moving rapidly, emitting a dense rustling sound, this pale tide surged upwards!

These monsters could indeed climb up from below, Xu Xiaoyou immediately speculated as much.

She looked up, as she anticipated, above them, those monsters with skin like pale corpses were climbing upside down, their bodies hidden among the mountain's vegetation; one would hardly notice unless looking closely; the scarlet eyes reflected her image.

Throughout the valley, at least thousands of these creatures were already enclosing the place completely.

An inevitable fierce battle was about to unfold.
