Due to the Mourner being so perfectly designed, she can handle any problem on her own, so the association never places monitoring personnel at the top of her tower. Her era of birth can be traced back to long before the New Era Calendar, with most of the records lost. Even the world's top scientific researchers are like children stripped naked, helpless before the Mourner.
Yet, there was indeed a figure sitting brazenly in front of the Mourner, opening a bottle of aged red wine, evenly spreading butter on every piece of whole wheat bread, blowing on it while adding hot water to a cup of instant noodles, and breaking a sausage.
He was dressed in a luxurious suit of peacock green and silver white, his wrists adorned with expensive watches, each finger joint inlaid with rings, boots leisurely propped on the table, bright precious gems occasionally falling from his pant legs. He nonchalantly cradled the instant noodles, which to him were more substantial than the gems.
"World number five Nest City, R'lyeh, experienced three explosions, oxygen leakage, cessation of the left engine ring's power arm, two thousand three hundred deaths, vacuum depressurization, no anomalies."
The man nodded thoughtfully, slurping a mouthful of instant noodles and taking a swig from the wine bottle.
"World number sixty-one Nest City, Mobius City, sub-intelligence 'Ouroboros' froze time and restarted because the city had lost all life in a nuclear explosion. An anomaly monitoring anchor point was set up, observation systems established, anomaly level: one."
"Mobius City?" The man raised an interested eyebrow at this Nest City. He had recently toured this prosperous Federation City, a city on the brink of resource depletion, where every twelve years, war broke out over resource allocation, leading to destruction, only to be reset by the 'Ouroboros', erasing everyone's memory, repeating in a loop like a Mobius strip.
Due to its bizarre Ouroboros balance, this Nest City had rarely experienced high-risk supernatural events after the New Era Calendar, so the association simply let it live and die on its own, forbidding all outsiders from visiting, to avoid disrupting the balance.
This, of course, was useless to a man who transcended the rules of the world. After finishing the instant noodles, he started on the buttered bread.
After an unknown long time had passed, the man finished his lunch. He certainly wasn't someone with nothing better to do, visiting the top of the tower to flaunt his power and position to an artificial intelligence.
The time-freezing protocol at the top of the Light Chasing Tower could halt the passage of time here; he wasn't about to waste his precious life on energy intake, with immeasurable wealth tilting toward him with every breath from the world's balance.
"World number six hundred fifty-three Nest City, Ash City, no anomalies."
"World number seven hundred ninety-one Nest City, Probability Corridor, suspected appearance of Gloomy Blue Tide, forcibly danced a piece with two young girls then left after paying."
"What kind of moron is acting up?" the man muttered under his breath.
"World number eight hundred Nest City, Chichu Heaven, new train 'Heart's Desire' has arrived, suspected appearance of Dark Gold Rose and Abyssal White Flower, anomaly monitoring anchor point set up, observation system established, anomaly level: two."
"Thorn White Judge, they are within Cosmic Heavy Industries' territory. You have superior decision-making authority over the association's Elder Council. Would you like to report to the association?"
"Maintain observation," the man waved, still quite interested. The newly appointed Light Prism Tier Cleaner had arrived in his territory; he wondered what storm they would stir.
"Understood, Light Prism Tier Cleaner 'Deep White Midnight' priority decision rights activated, maintaining observation system, anomaly level downgraded, current anomaly level: one."
Deep White Midnight stretched lazily, tidied up the food remnants on the table, and just as he thought it was another calm and peaceful day, the Mourner's cascading long hair turned bright red, the calm gaze suddenly changed, and the room flashed with red light representing the highest anomaly level.
"World number eight hundred one Nest City, Star of Art, world-class unknown supernatural entity revived, has issued a warning to the upper echelons of the association, observation system established, anomaly level: five."
"Warning! Warning! Warning!"
Deep White Midnight's expression froze on his face, breadcrumbs dropping from the corner of his mouth.
...
Time returns to half a month ago.
With countless black dots wobbling on the retina, the intense ringing ears and dizziness made Xu Xiaoyou painfully open her eyes. After hesitating for a moment upon seeing an unfamiliar ceiling, she winced and clutched her head to sit up, catching sight of the silver-haired girl opposite the bed.
Angelina had taken off the hospital gown, her arm resting on the bed rail, bandages wrapped around her waist and abdomen, her clear and slender body silhouette exposed before her, with a pair of long legs lazily draped over the bed edge, one could feel the power nestled beneath the lines.
"Where am I...?" Xu Xiaoyou held her head, speaking weakly.
Outside was a hubbub of voices, and vulgar curses from street hooligans assured Xu Xiaoyou that she was definitely not at the Star of Art. Upon hearing the roar of a kind of large military vehicle, she hesitated for a moment, walked to the window, and pulled it open.
On the not-so-spacious street, pedestrians crowded to the sides, people wearing the black Crow Family emblem on their shoulders shouted hoarsely at them, shooing away onlookers and silencing all unusual sounds with the riot control sticks in their hands.
Three armored vehicles drove side by side, followed by two military tanks; the heavy armor was as rugged as a beast's breath, a cannon extending several meters long, tracks turning forward, the main turret of the tank passed in front of her small building's fourth-floor window, Xu Xiaoyou was momentarily stunned.
The rumbling rotation sound receded into the distance. She saw the steel behemoth, like a moving fortress, disappear at the end of her vision, and behind her came Angelina's long voice:
"As you can see, we are now in Chichu Heaven."
Xu Xiaoyou stepped back a few steps, vaguely sitting on the bed:
"What?"
"You failed to take care of the Siren King, leading to the annihilation of the Special Sixth Class. Were you planning to stay at the Star of Art waiting for the association to come knocking?" Angelina glanced at her, smirking coldly.
It was unimaginable waking up to find oneself in another Nest City; the sensation of being as if from another world made Xu Xiaoyou feel somewhat unreal. She hurriedly opened her online account, and upon seeing the glaring zero in the account balance, Xu Xiaoyou's world crumbled as she collapsed on the bed in a starfish position.
Everything happening before her was real; she wasn't dreaming. She really squandered all her savings on the Vacation Island, bankrupting herself, back to square one.
She was now completely broke...
"Tang Xin... no, where is Tang Xin now?"
Xu Xiaoyou suddenly thought of the blue-haired girl, what her situation was now, had she left the island and escaped danger?
An inexplicable fear caused her heart to thump wildly, and noticing her anomaly, Angelina, prepared, dripped something crimson into a cup, propped up her body, and fed it to her with plain water.
Only then did the intense fear and palpitations gradually subside, Xu Xiaoyou's voice hoarse: "What did you just give me to drink?"
"I don't know, the landlord here gave it to me, told me to use it when there are symptoms of fear." Angelina shrugged.
"Now that it's come to this, let's lie low for a while."
