Chapter 4: Vassal Races 2

"Hatching them also requires consuming the Power of Slaughter?"

Su Ziyu immediately halted the hatching of the Holy Beetles; there were currently about fifty of them. He ordered all these beetles to go collect ores.

The efficiency was relatively average.

But it was considerably faster than the little demons; at least there were some labor forces capable of working now.

"Should I look for those ant-like Insect Race?" Su Ziyu mused to himself.

Compared to these Holy Beetles, the ant-like Insect Race encountered earlier was clearly more suited for work. Perhaps they could quickly help him construct some buildings.

Continue hatching the Frenzy Demons.

After consuming the resources he had just acquired, Su Ziyu finally possessed a squad of cannon fodder capable of fighting, consisting of twelve Frenzy Demons in total.

Some slight sounds were heard.

When Su Ziyu turned his head, he saw the Abyss Lurker returning from afar, using its Mind Sensing ability to convey some information and images to him.

"Huh?"

"Are there still kobolds here?" Su Ziyu murmured.

In the images conveyed by the Abyss Lurker, he saw many kobolds, but they were different from the ones in his memory.

These kobolds were very strong.

Their height was about 1.6 meters, with solid muscles all over, wearing crude Metal Armor, and the most distinctive feature was the presence of some red scales on their bodies.

"It's said that kobolds have some bloodline relation with Dragons?"

"Could these kobolds be Dragon Veins?"

Su Ziyu had seen a Red Dragon flying westward, and these kobolds also had red scales, which likely made them the vassal races of this Giant Dragon. Most True Dragons collect some vassal races to serve them, most commonly various monsters, and whenever kobolds detect nearby dragons, they inevitably flock together, crying and begging to be accepted as vassal races by the dragon.

They are quite the suck-ups.

"Kobolds are skilled in mining, melting metals, and forging equipment." Su Ziyu pondered, resting his chin on his hand.

Should he try a test move?

A mature Red Dragon was currently beyond his capability, but Su Ziyu was keen to transform some kobolds into demon vassal races.

If he didn't alarm the Giant Dragon, this deal was worth trying.

However, if he angered that Red Dragon, the price could be quite heavy.

"Dragons typically don't care much about kobolds, right?" Su Ziyu thought for a while before looking up at the Enchanting Demon lieutenant in front of him, saying, "I want to capture some kobolds. But I'm worried about alarming the dragon."

"Do you have any strategies?"

The Enchanting Demon in front of him pondered for a moment in response, then confidently stated, "How many kobolds does the master want? If it's not a large number."

"I can directly charm them back for you."

Right.

Enchanting Demons are demons well-versed in Charm Spells and can directly use spells to charm those kobolds back.

"At least a few hundred," Su Ziyu thought for a moment and said.

Hearing his words, the Enchanting Demon lieutenant's expression became somewhat troubled, as she frowned slightly and softly said, "If the master needs so many kobolds, relying solely on me may fall short."

"The master should hatch some more of my sisters."

No way.

The cost-effectiveness of Enchanting Demons is too low.

Su Ziyu also needed to consider rapid military expansion; the resources consumed to hatch one Enchanting Demon could hatch two Frenzy Demons.

For now, one Enchanting Demon suffices.

"No. We need military strength for territorial expansion," Su Ziyu shook his head and said.

The Enchanting Demon lieutenant's expression became a bit troubled again, and she glanced at the Abyss Lurker beside her, softly saying, "Then can the master hatch some Abyss Lurkers?"

"They are skilled at ambushing enemies."

"Just a minor modification using the Abyssal Blood Pool will grant them web capabilities."

"With five or six Abyss Lurkers, I could slowly help the master capture those kobolds."

This was worth considering.

Su Ziyu opened the Demon Gene Tree in the auxiliary system and found that it indeed could consume mutated flesh tissue of Insect Race Gene and Power of Slaughter to expand the web capability.

He immediately converted the Medium Soul Crystal Stone.

"Good." Su Ziyu solemnly said, "I'll hatch five Abyss Lurkers for you. Help me capture more kobolds."

Individual lumps appeared around the Abyssal Blood Pool.

Once Su Ziyu assigned six Abyss Lurkers to the Enchanting Demon lieutenant for her command, she set off discreetly with these demons. After traveling some distance, her form suddenly transformed into a female kobold, whose appearance was, by kobold aesthetic standards, an epitome of beauty.

Enchanting Demons are well-experienced in Transformation Spells, capable of transforming into most humanoid creatures.

However, for those who are adept, their demonic aroma is too potent.

"Should I just go for it?"

Once he arranged for his Enchanting Demon lieutenant to capture kobolds, Su Ziyu continued leading his main force in exploring.

Stealing some of the Giant Dragon's vassal races couldn't change the current situation; he still needed a formidable demonic army to expand his territory.

Su Ziyu targeted the second Insect Race nest.

There lived a peculiar ant-like insect life form, seemingly numerous in quantity, which posed a greater challenge to eliminate than the Holy Beetles. He tactically engaged the little demons as well; the Abyssal Blood Pool accumulated a Soul Value of around a hundred points, so he readily converted all the small Soul Crystal Stones obtained from the Night Witch, rapidly hatching over sixty little demons.

Even low-tier cannon fodder should be useful when in large numbers, right?

Su Ziyu noticed something.

As the number of little demons increased, their morale grew higher; a dozen little demons and over a hundred little demons were entirely different. The former easily fled upon seeing enemies, while the latter preferred swarming small numbers of enemies.

When enough little demons gathered, they exhibited a special 'strength in numbers' buff.

Though their power remained unenhanced, their fighting spirit noticeably increased.

Soon.

Su Ziyu led his main force near the territory of the Ant Race.

The little demons were highly motivated.

Upon seeing enemies, they surged forward, prompting a large number of Ant Race individuals to emerge from underground caves, their numbers steadily rising. As enemy numbers increased, the little demons' morale decreased, and when both sides had similar numbers, the 'strength in numbers' buff on the little demons disappeared long ago.

They grew timid again, possibly scattering immediately were it not for Su Ziyu, the Demon Lord, keeping them in line.
