Traveler of the River of Time and Space

Chapter 22: Shifting Focus (2)

"Some worlds where magic exists."

Other worlds?

Even though there had been many bold speculations in her mind before, Pasha was still shocked upon hearing Su Ziyu's words.

"That monster."

"A creation of the Old Gods." Su Ziyu sighed softly and said, "Things like this exist in many worlds, and my current mission is to eliminate them."

"It took some effort for me to return here."

Su Ziyu stopped speaking at this point because certain things were impossible to explain.

Pasha was in a state of wanting to speak but holding back. She finally reached out gently to hold Su Ziyu's hand and asked, "How did you know I was here?"

A slightly cool touch.

Pasha's hands didn't have the texture of an ordinary human. They were soft, but felt like silicone, and even a knife might not cut through her skin. With Su Ziyu's ability, he could clearly sense her inner metal skeleton.

Meeting again after twelve years.

He was no longer the rookie he once was, and Pasha had undergone cyborg modifications. Although her appearance was slightly more mature than before, the familiar feeling remained. Perhaps it was because they had once fought side by side.

"I met Sakura."

Su Ziyu's words enlivened Pasha; she murmured, "You already know?"

"Yes." Su Ziyu nodded.

Just as Pasha was about to speak, Su Ziyu gestured for her to stop and said solemnly, "Someone's coming."

Da, da, da.

The sound of gunfire echoed from hundreds of meters away.

Soon.

A modified off-road vehicle approached, and Justin, dressed in combat gear, relaxed upon seeing Su Ziyu and happily said, "Great! You're back!"

A quick glance around.

Justin saw only two other people and his expression turned a bit regretful as he whispered, "The plane has already come."

"We detected nuclear explosion fluctuations."

"Came right over."

Su Ziyu casually tossed a box over and said, "Catch."

"What's this?" Justin caught it, took a quick look inside, and his expression changed drastically, "I'll send it back to headquarters immediately."

Su Ziyu softly to Pasha said, "We'll discuss more once we're back."

Buzz.

Soon a helicopter appeared before them. Members of the Brotherhood first sent the unconscious Leon aboard, then Su Ziyu and Pasha boarded the helicopter, heading directly towards the Southern Cross.

Pasha was already extremely exhausted.

Finally relaxed, she immediately rested her head on Su Ziyu's shoulder, falling into a deep sleep.

Su Ziyu silently watched Pasha's profile, gently stroked her long hair, then turned to look out the window. The sky of the wasteland world was hazy gray, and he observed the desolate land below, pondering his next move. He had exposed many supernatural abilities this time, and while Pasha would cover up some, the Brotherhood still needed some excuses.

The best approach is to divert their attention and focus it on the Old God creation on Devil's Island, and take advantage of their strength to investigate what exactly the Old Gods are in this world.

Before returning to the Southern Cross, Pasha woke up.

Leon hadn't been unconscious for long, given that he was modified into a cyborg. He woke up about half an hour after Pasha had awoken.

By this time, the Southern Cross was almost in sight.

As the helicopter landed, a team approached and a short-haired, sturdy woman rushed up, giving Leon a hug. Then a middle-aged man coughed and said, "Thank you for your hard work."

"Hand it over to me. I'll take it directly back to headquarters."

The middle-aged man's gaze fell on Su Ziyu while people beside him whispered to Leon. Before long, their expressions changed dramatically.

Su Ziyu had no interest in interacting with these people.

He directly took Pasha's hand and walked into the base, soon seeing the figure of a little girl.

"Mommy!" The little girl ran over enthusiastically.

More enthusiastic than when meeting Su Ziyu, it seemed Pasha had a greater presence in her heart. After all, she was raised by her mother.

"Sakura." Pasha exclaimed in joyful tears, tightly hugging the little girl in front of her.

Su Ziyu smiled watching it all.

His gaze swept over and fell on Matty in the distance, beckoning her over, and the tomboy quickly ran over, her face showing a hint of envy.

The sky darkened.

Dinner was prepared by the Brotherhood people. Leon approached during this time, sat across from Su Ziyu, and softly said, "Thank you for saving me this time."

"You're welcome." Su Ziyu placed the little girl from his arms onto Pasha's knee.

He gave Pasha a look, and she quickly left with her daughter.

Su Ziyu saw Leon's hesitant demeanor and slowly said, "I know you have many questions. Ask them. I'll answer as much as I can."

"Where have you been all these years?" Leon sat upright and said, "The Brotherhood has been searching for you for a long time, with no clues at all."

"Many places. Places you don't know." Su Ziyu calmly replied.

Leon gazed into Su Ziyu's eyes and hesitated, "Your ability... Why can you control lightning?..."

"You can think of it as a superpower." Su Ziyu was mentally prepared, and slowly said, "Our world also has some supernatural existences. Like the monster on the island."

"It was created by beings known as 'Old Gods'."

"And there's another person with supernatural abilities— you should have heard his name."

"Solomon."

Leon silently pondered Su Ziyu's words. The experience on Devil's Island shattered his worldview, causing a subtle shift in his previously materialistic mindset. He softly asked, "What exactly is your identity?"

"It's been twelve years."

"You still can't tell us? We later checked with nearby shelters, but there was no sign of you."

Su Ziyu hesitated for a moment before responding solemnly, "I serve an ancient organization called 'Inspector.'"

"This organization's purpose is to deal with those special existences."

Inspector?

Leon had no recollection of this organization, and he frowned, asking, "Do you know what the Old Gods are?"

"The Brotherhood's airship has already departed for Devil's Island."

Su Ziyu shook his head, saying, "I don't know much. But you can understand the Old Gods in the literal sense. In fact, we're also investigating the existence of these Old Gods because no one has truly seen them."

Gods?

Is there really a god in this world?

Leon couldn't quite believe it, but remembering the Old God creation on Devil's Island, he knew that thing definitely couldn't be created by mere radiation mutations.

"In fact, you can continue investigating Solomon." Su Ziyu said slowly, "I feel he should know about the Old Gods."

"He may have even directly interacted with Old Gods."

"After all, the initial antiradiation potion was created by him and his team. I suspect he might no longer be human."

First, divert the problem toward Solomon.

The information brought back from Devil's Island pointed all fingers at Solomon. People had seen those monsters over a hundred years ago and even made antiradiation potions using their genes, and Solomon surely knew what happened back then.

To a degree, the emergence of the antiradiation potion might have been a conspiracy.

While it allowed humans to survive in the nuclear wasteland, it also brought pollution to all humans.

"The Brotherhood leader wants to see you." Leon said slowly.

Su Ziyu glanced at him and nodded, "Alright."
