The ground was covered in snow.
Yet, it was a collection of clusters, mounds, smooth and free, scattered among the deep and shallow plush flowers and grasses at the cave entrance.
The little mouse unknowingly poked its little head out of the Spirit Garden Pouch again, letting out a tiny exclamation: "Scholar, this place is so beautiful, how could there be such a wondrous place in the world?"
The Little Snow Spirit spread its arms, standing amidst those clusters of snow, looking upward and cheering, "Yay yay yay... it's all delicious! Brother Chen, I'm giving this to you to eat."
In Chen Xu's eyes, at this moment, labels began to reveal themselves on those snow piles:
[Hundred-Year Snow, snow accumulated in the snow mountain caves, unable to melt over the years, containing profound coldness, can be used to temper Spiritual Food.
Extracted using the Spirit Roasting Eight Techniques, one can obtain pure snow essence, consuming it may enlighten one to the understanding of snow and ice.
Or use it to brew Spiritual Tea, capable of calming, clearing the mind, and improving vision.]
Among the snow piles appeared Hundred-Year Snow.
But this was not all.
Looking elsewhere, there lay another pile, which turned out to be Thousand-Year Snow.
[Thousand-Year Snow, snow accumulated in the snow mountain caves, unable to melt over the years, containing intensely cold energy, mere mortal touch would instantly turn to an ice sculpture...
Cultivators who touch it may suffer chill affecting the meridians at best, cold poison in the body, or death if enveloped by the chill.
Or melt it through Spirit Roasting Eight Techniques to harmonize spiritual materials with extreme attributes.
One harmonious, one contrary, it could yield miraculous effects, handle with care.]
The descriptor of Thousand-Year Snow already contained severe cold intentions.
Next, Chen Xu's gaze turned again, seeing another pile of snow, whose description was simple yet startling:
[Ten-Thousand-Year Snow... highly toxic.
Or could be harmonized, has other uses.]
Whoa, highly toxic!
The [Past Year Snow] Chen Xu had been longing for, was right beside that pile of Ten-Thousand-Year Snow.
[Past Year Snow, last year's old snow, unmelted this year. It carries the meaning of new and old interchange, making it a premium harmonizing material.]
Indeed, it was like seeking him among thousands of places!
With Past Year Snow in front of his eyes now, Chen Xu was not in a hurry to collect it.
He asked the Little Snow Spirit, "Do you want to learn my Rain Bringing and Snow Sprinkling Technique?"
The Little Snow Spirit was initially drawn by his magic, sneaking in to watch him. When Chen Xu mentioned it again, she appeared to realize and replied earnestly, "Yay yay... I want to learn, I nearly forgot, so you teach me!"
Chen Xu, with a light touch of his toe on the ground, leaped back a few yards effortlessly.
He rose and landed lightly, intentionally maintaining a distance from the snow piles near the cave entrance to prevent accidentally ruining them while teaching magic.
Truthfully, Chen Xu didn't actually know any cloud or rain techniques, nor ice or snow magic. All he understood was essentially a variant of the Water Drawing Technique.
But, whether it be cloud and rain magic, or other ice and snow techniques, they essentially all revolved around the understanding and utilization of water.
After a brief insight earlier, Chen Xu gained a marvelous sensation of "one technique understanding all techniques" in a small range.
Instead of directly teaching specific magic manipulations, he began by imparting the fundamental understanding of water.
With a casual gesture, a clear line of water spiraled into existence in his palm out of thin air.
He sent this clear spiritual water across the air and had it absorbed into his mouth.
The clear spiritual water tasted cool and sweet, refreshing the mouth and invigorating the mind.
Chen Xu swallowed the water, smiling as he asked the Little Snow Spirit, "This water quenches thirst and is sweet, would the Snow Spirit comrade like to drink it?"
The Little Snow Spirit tilted her head, confused as to why she was learning magic yet being invited to drink water. However, being a water eater, she was curious about the water Chen Xu conjured and said, "Sure."
Chen Xu lifted his hand again, conjuring another strand of clear spiritual water floating mid-air.
He pointed, and the spiritual water shot forward.
The Little Snow Spirit opened her mouth, and the strand of spiritual water fell right into it.
A bubbling sound, as if a spring trickling, arose.
The Little Snow Spirit gulped the water down, exclaiming with a curious expression, "Yay yay yay, the water is tasty and sweet. Huh, it's sweeter than any water I've drunk before, as sweet as snow."
[Likes +600]
Indeed, a magical event occurred once more.
The Little Snow Spirit, having drunk a strand of spiritual water summoned by Chen Xu with the Water Drawing Technique, astonishingly granted Chen Xu 600 likes.
Leaving Chen Xu momentarily unsure of what aspect of this he found more astonishing upon seeing the new prompt from the Food Cauldron Celestial Book.
Was it astonishing that spiritual water could also provide likes?
Or that the Little Snow Spirit's initial likes could be as much as [600]?
Luckily, Chen Xu's consistent practice of Qi Cultivation Skill allowed his emotions not to reveal themselves.
He continued, unhurriedly, only after the Little Snow Spirit finished drinking, "Water is formless, shapeless, yet the source of all things. We living beings could go ten days without food, but not ten days without water."
He was talking about the fundamental nature of water, essentially speaking about the Dao.
With Chen Xu's current understanding of cultivation, though far from a Grandmaster, he found himself surprisingly articulate within a small scope.
The Little Snow Spirit listened blankly at first, then said, "Ten days without water means death?"
Thinking it over, she continued, "Indeed, living beings cannot be without water... huh, but what exactly are living beings?"
Chen Xu realized that while the Little Snow Spirit knew some things, she was entirely clueless about others.
He explained, "Anything in the world that possesses vitality, capable of growth, ought to be considered living beings.
For instance, you and I are living beings, as are the flowers and grasses at this cave entrance. On Lingxi Snow Mountain, the flowers, grasses, trees, insects, fish, birds, and beasts are all living beings..."
From explaining that no living being can be without water, he spoke about water's gentle, clear, and illuminating nature.
Yet, he continued, "In the world, nothing is softer and weaker than water, but when attacking the firm and strong, nothing can outmatch it."
Over time, even the gentlest water can penetrate stone.
Moreover, water is formless and shapeless, not simply gentle.
It can also be wild and sharp, as in, "when water rages, it is fierce, when an arrow is shot, it flies far."
Chen Xu instructed the Little Snow Spirit to sense the nature of water, teaching her to recognize the presence of "water" in the world or to convert her own mana into water.
At first, the Little Snow Spirit listened, bewildered, but gradually became entranced.
The small hedgehog behind Chen Xu, and the little mouse at his waist, began to listen as well, becoming equally absorbed.
The small hedgehog's eyes gleamed, nodding to and fro.
The little mouse's eyes sparkled energetically, clinging to the Spirit Garden Pouch, its eyes flickering.
At this moment, everything in the cave was undoubtedly pure.
Chen Xu imparted the method, and the three demons listened.
The chilling wind blew through the years in the cave, leaving no clamor, only splendid light and shadow at present.
Simultaneously, back by the cold pond where Chen Xu previously harvested Jade Needle Grass from the mountainside, two figures were cautiously climbing down.
The two figures were both excited and hesitant, both anxious and exhilarated.
Yet their desire for the Jade Needle Grass overcame them, prompting them to inch closer to the cold pond.
The sika deer couldn't help but say, "Little Rabbit, are we really going to pick Jade Needle Grass?"
The white rabbit whispered, "Of course, we have to. That person didn't take all the Jade Needle Grass, definitely intending to leave some for us. If we don't pick it now, surely it will be snatched by other Little Demons.
Sister Lu, think about it, if the slashed-faced wolves find out about this place, would they let us go?"
The sika deer, her forehooves lightly moving, suppressed her hesitation and said, "Then, let's, let's quickly pick them!"
As she saw the white rabbit ready to leap forward, the sika deer couldn't help but speak again, "But Little Rabbit, that person seems to have gone to the top of Jade Cold Peak."
If he has gone to Jade Cold Peak, can he, can he still come back?"
