My Cyber Psychosis is Task Prompt

Chapter 174: First Delivery

John transferred some money to Gerry.

"Take some time to get your arm replaced and grab a combat chip."

Profits from fresh food are quite high.

Radiant Dust Farm is battling it out with protein food companies, making the goods more scarce, attracting lots of pests—company dogs, mercenaries, street punks, rival gangs, dining competitors, exiled dealers...

Gerry took a deep breath, fingers flexing repeatedly on the steering wheel.

"I feel like I'm dealing drugs."

"Pretty much."

Maya looked out the window, her tone calm.

Since the War of Independence, the world has faced a food crisis compounded by radioactive pollution from the war, further squeezing food production.

According to Eden City's Food Safety Act:

Unregistered meat sources are illegal, punishable even more severely than drug dealing.

The simplest example is you can get stimulant-laced drinks from street vending machines, but can't eat a real piece of meat from a regular store.

Gerry drove to the edge of the West District.

Beside it is the ring road, highway, and checkpoints, outside lies the wasteland, with abandoned tools covered in thirty percent yellow sand leading straight to the Border Wall on the west.

The farm owner's supply channels and border trade are all operated through western passages, surely backed by senators and capital groups.

John suddenly shut up mid-conversation, paused for a moment, reminding Gerry to prepare weapons.

Maya also appeared solemn, pressing her body into the seat, re-arming herself with the rifle, head tilted, eyes fixed intensely on the corner of the bulletproof car window.

"Ah? What's going on!"

Gerry was puzzled, hastily questioning while deftly controlling the steering wheel to prevent possible impact.

John used Black Light to take over the vehicle system, switching the control panel to external cameras.

A black armored car lurked behind, surrounded by abandoned factories, suspicious indeed, just as they turned the corner of the industrial edge, a few motorcycles with gunmen sprang forth from the alleyway.

"Look at that, the flies smelled the meat and came!"

Gerry scowled, mouth slick with words, muscles fully tensed.

The motorcycles were modified, with gunmen sitting in the rear, no warning or threats, they closed the distance and opened fire immediately.

"F*ck, they're after our lives!"

Bullets struck the pavement and around the engine hood, the camera feed showing only sparks and dust flying, the glass windows and armor cover reverberating loudly!

Gerry instinctively dodged.

Wham—

The armored cash transporter jerked, wheels skidding, levitating briefly, accompanied by urgent tire screeching, leaving black brake marks.

"Hey, calm down, we're pretty damn safe, okay?"

John reassured Gerry, waiting for the vehicle to regain balance before grabbing the rifle from the toolkit, moving to the back.

[Weapon: Nova [Kinetic Energy Rifle]]

[Module: Advanced Penetration, Incendiary Ammunition]

The motorcycles were already closing in.

Maya extended the gun barrel through the side shooting hole, a burst of bullets grazed past the rider's neck.

Blood sprayed instantly.

The driver screamed, reaching to cover, the motorcycle locked in a spin, flipping both riders off during the front wheel turn, the trailing motorcycle couldn't dodge in time, crashing over them, rolling past.

Blood spread explosively, suppressing the flying dust.

Bam!

John kicked open the rear compartment door, securing one iron panel as cover, raising the rifle towards the street to shoot.

His rifle was loaded with incendiary rounds, igniting upon hitting the motorcycle surface, exuding a fierce momentum feel.

John's shooting was steadier.

With rich experience and a wide view, he initially emptied half a clip to disrupt the enemy rhythm, then recalibrated to lock onto critical points like the head and heart.

Bang, bang bang.

John held his breath to withstand the kinetic energy rifle's recoil.

His cybernetic eye flashed, full dynamic capture, clearly seeing bullets pierce through helmets, embedding under skin armor, blood droplets and torn bulletproof fragments flying in the air...

Tatatata.

The motorcycles were forced to slow down.

Trailing behind, they shot towards the open cargo doors.

John ducked behind the cover, empty magazine clattering onto the ground, about to pull out and reload when engine noises suddenly approached.

He peeked out to observe:

The distant armored car revved towards them, its ominous gun barrel adjusting angle on the rooftop, almost simultaneously, the info captured by the cybernetic eye fed back to his retina.

[Vehicle: Thunder Miles-Oasis [Modified]]

[Scan: 30mm Automatic Rapid-Fire Cannon]

"F*ck!"

John immediately lunged into the cargo box.

Amidst the dense booming of cannon firing, a barrage fell on the armored cash transporter's cargo door, the heavy bulletproof shell feeling equal pressure as though heavy machinery attempted to breach the door.

John reversed his rifle grip, hooking onto the other door to close it.

Standing up again to lock it, he sighed with relief, couldn't help but glance around at the muffled walls while retreating.

"Lucky we got a good vehicle."

John breathed a sigh of relief, turning to rejoin the control deck, directing the armored cash transporter onto the right path.

Maya continued adjusting her angle to shoot outward.

Gerry was adapting from panic, the speed gradually increasing, tires lightly lifting during turns but not wildly swaying.

"Holy shit! Boss, are we really just fetching some meat and fresh veggies, right? Who the hell are these bastards, damn it, it's the first time I've been gunned down by machine guns!"

Gerry raised his voice, probably trying to drown out the gunfire, actually releasing stress and masking anxiety.
