Wasteland Commander

Chapter 131: The Helicopter Must Be Captured Alive

When the two helicopters were shot down by the combat helicopter, another helicopter passed through the mountains and saw Dawn City.

He originally thought that the base of the Dawn Army, like other survivor bases, was nothing more than occupying a building or a company, or a village digging some fortifications as a base.

Because it's generally like this, the things built temporarily, how strong can you expect them to be?

But after seeing Dawn City, his plane almost crashed.

"Was this built during the apocalypse? This is too formidable!"

The plane hovered in the sky, everything looked astonishing.

The airport made them worried; they didn't expect two runways to be built here.

But not seeing a plane there made them feel relieved again.

An airport without planes is worthless.

As for the giant cannon at the city gate in the core area, he wondered if it was just for show.

"We can't come for nothing. Although the place is heavily guarded, it clearly has no aerial defenses. Let's go over and strafe them."

The pilot spoke to the gunner in the back, and after a brief discussion, they decided to show the Dawn Army a lesson.

The helicopter moved forward.

No matter how much damage they could cause, they wanted the Dawn Army to understand not to provoke the unprovokable, as it would only bring disaster.

For added impact, they decided to fly from the outer city to the core area.

They controlled the flight altitude to stay out of range of most firearms.

They had done similar things before, during their surprise attack on the Dazhuang Village base when three helicopters flew over, causing chaos below as if a frenzy had broken out.

This time, they believed it would be no exception.

They flew over the outer city.

Below was a vast construction site, where many people were building houses and constructing city walls.

Bulldozers and excavators roared, presenting a bustling scene.

The gunner raised his gun and fired a few shots below, but the distance and the flying status rendered hitting anything impossible.

They didn't expect to hit anyone, it was only to scare people.

The two waited for chaos to ensue below.

When the gunfire erupted, it did cause a slight disruption; people stopped working and looked up at the sky.

Some of the guard soldiers raised their guns, seemingly considering if they could hit someone.

But the anticipated chaos did not occur.

People paused momentarily, and then the broadcast loudspeaker at the base sounded.

The broadcast loudspeaker of the Dawn Army located at the radar station announced loudly, clearly audible across the entire base.

"Everyone, continue working. They are out of range and can't harm you. Soldiers, pay attention, do not shoot down the plane immediately, the command is to capture it alive."

People quickly calmed down and resumed what they were doing.

It seemed as if the plane in the sky didn't even exist.

Since Leader Ye said to capture it alive, there was no way for that plane to escape.

The two in the aircraft above also heard the announcement.

They exchanged glances, doubting their ears.

"Is the leader of this base an idiot? How do you capture a plane alive?"

"This is stupid. We're in the sky, free to come and go. Did their helicopter return? Even if it did, capturing a plane alive is impossible."

"It seems we still need to show them something. Let's go attack that cannon and kill the soldiers beside it to complete the mission."

The helicopter continued onward, flying towards the core area's sky.

Among the soldiers guarding the giant cannon, there were four air defense infantry.

These soldiers were carrying HT portable anti-aircraft missiles.

If used on fixed-wing fighters, they might not be very effective, but against civilian aircraft, they required minimal effort.

But unfortunately, the order to capture alive was given, leaving them no leeway to act freely.

Just as the helicopter approached the base, the War Hawks from the airport took to the sky!

Giant mutated birds spread their wings, ten of them flying simultaneously!

The speed of these War Hawks' dive was entirely on par with, if not superior to, civilian helicopters within short distances!

"What the hell is that?"

"Seems like birds!"

"Fire, don't let them get close to the plane!"

The gunner leaned out of the aircraft, firing a squad machine gun.

The plane also rapidly climbed altitude.

But it was already too late.

The speed at which the War Hawks appeared was too fast, and they had been unprepared, allowing the War Hawks to close the distance quickly.

The pilot desperately maneuvered the aircraft, and the squad machine gun lost its aim, with some bullets soaring into space.

Tatatatatata~~~~!

A stream of sparks missed, as the leading War Hawk reached the side of the cabin.

Its massive claws, like steel hooks, grabbed hold of the gunner leaning out of the cabin.

"Off you go~!"

With a backward fling, the gunman was directly thrown out of the cabin.

"Ah! I didn't bring a parachute!"

His body fell in free fall, releasing a scream of terror.

The descent time was too long; there wasn't enough breath left, screaming until exhaustion without reaching the ground.

Might as well faint, so the arrival of death will be much less painful.

Compared to this gunner, the helicopter pilot is somewhat better.

But not by much.

The leading War Hawk shook off the gunner and charged straight into the cabin.

The pilot dodged left and right, but the War Hawk was already behind his head, its giant beak a foot long tapping lightly on his skull.

Just like tapping a wooden fish.

The pilot was scared; he didn't want to be captured by the Dawn Army.

These helicopter pilots originally belonged to the Airport Base; they betrayed the base and caused much slaughter. Even if they were taken by the Dawn Army, they would not survive.

He needed to gamble.

He heard the Dawn Army's shout-over; the helicopter was to be taken alive.

He absolutely wouldn't let the Dawn Army have their way.

Thinking quickly, he came up with an idea.

Since the other party wanted to capture this helicopter, he definitely wouldn't let them succeed.

He would fly the helicopter towards the river. The other side wouldn't kill him before it landed, and once over the river, he could jump down.

Let the helicopter crash into the river, and he could use this chance to escape by jumping into the river as well.

With this plan decided, the helicopter descended.

He wanted to head towards the Outer City District, but the giant eagle behind kept pecking his head, each peck causing a big lump.

He dared not speak, dared not ask.

Flying towards the core district, the pecking stopped.

The helicopter descended to within twenty meters of the core district's water surface.

Now's the moment!

The pilot threw open the cabin door, jumping out with all his might!

The helicopter fell with him!

He just had to see how the Dawn Army would capture the helicopter alive?

With a loud splash, a giant monstrous creature appeared above the water.

Long tentacles shot skywards, catching the falling helicopter.

Gently holding it.

Placed it on the shore as if it were a toy.

The pilot's eyes were vacant as he plunged into the water.

A burst of machine-gun bullets splattered the water's surface; he never emerged from the water again.

The Star River flows eastward.

Drowning all who rebel.

*********

Ye Fan sat gloomily in the car.

To his left was Chen Hao, the shameless one, to his right was Shen Ruihui, who wasn't aware of things.

A man, a young man, a vigorous young man.

Why was it so hard to get something done?

The car returned to Dawn City, and Ye Fan only felt slightly better after getting off.

That helicopter was finally seized by him, making it a gain at least.

The survivors who came with Ye Fan stood stunned under Dawn City, staring at the city.

In their eyes, it could count as the ninth wonder of the world.

"Ladies and gentlemen, now that you're here, consider this your home. The Dawn Army practices reward based on labor contributions; the more you contribute here, the more you get rewarded."

"Once contributions reach a certain amount, you can even apply to live in the Inner City District."

Ye Fan smiled: "I can tell you a little secret; soon the land in Dawn City will be extremely valuable, and housing prices will soar. Owning a house here will be quite impressive."

The survivors followed Ye Fan through the Outer City District to the Inner City District.

Everyone squinted at the Giant Cannon, finding it somewhat dazzling.

If Ye Fan had said something before about housing prices in Dawn City rising, they wouldn't have believed it, but now they had no choice but to believe.

"Zhang Kunlin, come here."

Logistics officer Zhang Kunlin ran to Ye Fan's front.

"Officer."

"These survivors are from Coal City, and they are now ready to join our Dawn City. Please arrange for them and remember to treat them equally."

"Understood, follow me!"

Ye Fan handed the survivors over to Zhang Kunlin and then returned to the core area.

The survivors felt like Granny Liu visiting the Grand View Garden, following Zhang Kunlin into Dawn City.

In the Inner City District, there is now a temporary department called the Household Registration Office.

Any survivor deciding to join Dawn City must register here at the Household Registration Office.

The Red Alert Engineers will issue them a temporary ID card.

The ID cards are made by the Red Alert Engineers, adorned with the Dawn Army's emblem, with exclusive anti-counterfeiting features.

However, the technology isn't quite mature; once the basic infrastructure is in place by winter, these matters will proceed on track.

Between these groups of survivors and Ye Fan, there was no resentment, and everything went smoothly.

Chen Hao, Dai Yu, and Qin Yumo occasionally reminded their subordinates.

Chen Hao said, "Put away those bad habits of yours from before. Here, don't call us leader; the old leader is gone. Now there is only one leader, and that's Leader Ye, Ye Fan."

Dai Yu was rather stern: "Cooperate well with the Dawn Army's work, know your position, and I won't be courteous to anyone who misbehaves."

Qin Yumo was more straightforward: "When you feel like flaunting yourselves, take a look at that Giant Cannon above, and I guarantee you won't be able to flaunt much front or back."
