Wasteland Commander

Chapter 210: The Annihilation Battle!

Mu Haiyang never expected that Ye Fan would actually dispatch troops to confront him directly.

When those tanks appeared under the cover of night, he knew this battle wouldn't be easy.

The strength of the Heavy Truck Corps was far inferior compared to the Survivor Alliance, especially after purchasing Rakshasa equipment.

At the very least, they didn't possess pure war weapons like tanks.

The helicopters they managed to get were also civilian-modified, with the most powerful armament being heavy machine guns and rocket launchers.

Faced with a tank assault, these weapons seemed somewhat inadequate.

Especially after the enemy's mortars plowed the ground, the Heavy Truck Corps' morale took a significant hit.

Yet Mu Haiyang knew he couldn't retreat. One step back, and it would be a complete collapse with no chance to rise again.

"Hold your ground! Tanks are not invincible; if we break their tracks, they will be immobilized. There are only five tanks, which can't alter the entire situation. We have a huge advantage in numbers."

He saw that Ye Fan's forces added up to just about two thousand, while he had seven thousand. How could they possibly lose?

After his pep talk, the Heavy Truck Army braced themselves, waiting for the decisive moment.

The first tank fired while advancing!

The turret recoiled as a shell hit a high ground!

Dirt flew, and a group of Heavy Truck Army soldiers screamed as they fell.

Boom boom~~~!

The advancing tanks continued to fire, launching the first wave of assaults.

Mu Haiyang's men did not dare to show their heads, lying low behind slopes to avoid tank shelling.

Mu Haiyang called over someone knowledgeable about military affairs.

"You, come here."

"Chief, what do you need?"

"Tell me, how many shells does a tank carry?"

The person peeked and quickly retreated: "Chief, this is a top-modified D-55 tank, carrying about thirty shells. Once they're spent, that's it."

Mu Haiyang nodded and shouted to his men, "Hold your positions! No one is allowed to retreat! Once five tanks fire over a hundred shells, they'll be nearly useless. If they dare charge, we'll use explosive packs against them!"

This news brought a bit of confidence to the Heavy Truck Corps. While the enemy's tanks seemed nearly invincible, their ammunition was limited.

If there were fifty tanks, this battle wouldn't even need to be fought. Five can't decide the final outcome.

Mu Haiyang's persistence seemed to have some effect.

Although there were some casualties from the tank shelling, they were still the minority.

After intense firing for a while, the tanks began using heavy machine guns to sweep the battlefield.

Mu Haiyang remained determined to stay put, and everyone wished they could bury themselves in the dirt, letting the tanks exhaust themselves.

A little while later, the tanks gradually went silent.

Mu Haiyang discreetly glanced over and saw the enemy tanks hadn't crossed the slope.

It seemed they had exhausted their ammunition too.

"Return fire and see what happens!"

People started to emerge, using heavy machine guns and rocket launchers to retaliate.

The enemy tanks fired a few more rounds but achieved no results, and astonishingly started to retreat!

Seeing this, Mu Haiyang felt ecstatic!

Apparently, Ye Fan's group lacked extensive war experience and was at a loss defending against his superior numbers.

With the tanks' ammunition depleted, they didn't know what to do next.

This retreat was a huge blunder. If he pressed the attack, they would surely be thrown into chaos.

As the enemy tanks turned around, and other vehicles did the same, Mu Haiyang couldn't wait any longer.

Opportunities seized in time are fleeting; let these people return to the train, and he would have no way to deal with them.

So he decisively gave the order.

Full army charge!

Ignore those fleeing tanks, but make sure to trap other personnel and vehicles in the wilderness!

Someone from the Heavy Truck Corps grabbed a bugle.

It was actually just a loudspeaker, standing up to sound the charge.

"Dee dee dee dee.....deee deee deee~~!!"

The entire Heavy Truck Army rushed out of their defensive positions, surging like a tide toward the Dawn Army!

In Mu Haiyang's eyes, they moved swiftly and gracefully, like a fierce tiger descending the mountain.

And the Dawn Army, seeing the Heavy Truck Army's charge, completely ignored it and began to retreat chaotically.

"We're going to win!"

Mu Haiyang licked his lips, sweating with excitement. If they won this battle, it would be a rare come-from-behind victory.

With the train losing a significant number of operators, it might also be vulnerable.

If they indeed captured the train... he might roam cities unhindered, no longer at anyone's mercy.

Mu Haiyang's ambitions swelled.

But he didn't notice the tails dragging behind the enemy vehicles under the cover of darkness.

********

Seeing the Heavy Truck Army's full charge, the Dawn Army's vehicles quickly turned around, fronts facing back, rears facing front.

Directly facing the Heavy Truck Army were twenty 14.5mm twin-barreled anti-aircraft machine guns!

Each gun consisted of two anti-aircraft barrels, menacingly gleaming under the moonlight.

Each machine gun had three operators, shaped like a vehicle itself.

The soldiers held their breath, eyes fixed intently on the approaching enemy.

The skirmish line had fully left the defense line, charging down from the high slope.

Against these machine guns with a range of 1,500 meters, the enemy couldn't discern what was happening here.

"Commander, the enemy has entered firing range."

"Wait until they're all within a thousand meters before opening fire."

"Understood!"

Soldiers of the Dawn Army deliberately controlled the distance, maintaining a gap with the enemy, keeping them exhausted chasing.

The thousands of Heavy Truck Army soldiers cluelessly stumbled into the Dawn Army's trap without even realizing it.

Twelve hundred meters!

Eleven hundred meters!

A thousand meters!

Nine hundred meters!

Eight hundred meters!

On the train, Ye Fan took a bottle of liquor from the commander's bag.

It was collected during the resource gathering; called Tianyoude Qingke Liquor.

He also took out a few glasses, poured one for himself, and a glass each for Lawson and Zhao Xiaoman.

"Have a drink, to celebrate our victory."

Lawson and Zhao Xiaoman lifted their glasses, looking at Ye Fan, feeling this man was simply unfathomable.

*********

The vanguard troops had reached within seven hundred meters, and the Dawn Army's counterattack commenced.

The vehicles that were slowly retreating suddenly reversed madly!

High-caliber guns advanced directly to less than five hundred meters away from the enemy!

This was the optimal firing range.

And then, it was the furious torrent of metal!

Twenty dual-linked high-caliber guns unleashed a firepower that filled people with despair!

Each machine gun came with ten thousand bullets and could fire 500 rounds per minute!

The vehicles spread out in an orderly fashion, forming a semicircular encirclement, ensuring no angle was missed.

These heavy machine guns could penetrate armored vehicles and light tanks; hitting a person meant no chance of injury!

Unless it hit an arm, which would still cripple it, anything else would shatter an entire limb!

On the battlefield, an injury like this undoubtedly spelled the death sentence!

The soldiers of the Heavy Truck Army who charged out almost immediately faced utter disaster!

Such an assault would be unbearable even for regular troops, let alone these non-regulars.

The ones at the back turned around to flee, while those at the front also wanted to escape, but didn't even have a chance.

The dense stream of bullets was like a hurricane sweeping the grassland, the Heavy Truck Army like blades of grass.

Wherever the hurricane passed, not a single blade remained standing!

The casualty numbers skyrocketed!

Mu Haiyang was nearly stunned at the first moment.

It's over!

That was the only thought in his mind.

It turns out the Dawn Army could indeed fight positional warfare; they simply wanted to resolve the issue in the best way possible.

Against their man-slaying anti-personnel weapons, the Heavy Truck Corps didn't stand a chance.

He no longer had the will to fight, only the will to survive.

Seeing the situation collapse to this extent, Mu Haiyang didn't even bother to issue orders.

He immediately ordered a helicopter to come for his rescue.

Those helicopters, fearing anti-air missiles, were on standby at a distance and rushed over upon receiving the order.

Mu Haiyang boarded one of them, while the others tried to cover him.

But those dual-linked high-caliber guns were anti-aircraft guns.

These helicopters arrived just in time; the high-caliber guns aimed up, and within two kilometers was all range!

The helicopters in the air were shot down one after another, spinning and crashing from the sky.

Some remnants tried to take this chance to escape, but the Dawn Army soldiers were already on the comeback.

Ye Fan issued an order through the system.

"Full army counter-charge! Any and all who dare resist will be executed without mercy!"

The Dawn Army soldiers, each a marathon champion, pursued and slaughtered with precision, taking down countless remnants of the Heavy Truck Corps.

Some sharper-minded ones, seeing the unfavorable situation, immediately abandoned their weapons and knelt with hands raised in surrender.

The Dawn Army didn't pursue to the last; after all, they were humans, those willing to surrender were granted a way out.

Not a single surrender was killed, immediately sparking a huge wave of surrenders.

Among the seven thousand of the Heavy Truck Corps, about three thousand died under the dual-linked high-caliber guns, hundreds were killed in pursuit, with the remaining three thousand kneeling on the plain, not one managed to escape!

Lawson, watching from the back with immense excitement, said to Ye Fan, "Ye... Commander, that plane, and there's still a helicopter that got away, that should be Mu Haiyang, we can't let him go."

Ye Fan smiled and patted his shoulder, "Don't worry, he won't get away."

In the darkness, a large helicopter appeared before Ye Fan.

It was Tang Yafei's heroic-level combat helicopter.

"Let's go, it's time to return to Shannan Base, something good awaits us there."

Lawson and the others looked at the magical-looking helicopter, feeling their minds couldn't keep up.

What on earth is Ye Fan up to?

Lawson had something to say, though uncertain if he should.

He really wanted to ask Ye Fan if the meteor shower that struck the whole planet was his doing?
