Wasteland Commander

Chapter 236: The Debut of the Fighter Jet

The battle on the night of the fifth day of the first lunar month took a turn after eleven o'clock.

Originally, the 300,000 zombies attacking Dawn City suddenly turned against their own kind and launched an attack on the zombie group behind them.

Little One, seeing this situation, felt a surge of intense anger.

He wanted to regain control over the 300,000 zombies, but unfortunately, every time he was about to succeed, the giant cannon from Dawn City would fire shells to disrupt him.

Under normal circumstances, Little One would just dodge the dangerous shells fired by the giant cannon, but this time, he couldn't evade as he was vying for control of the zombie group with another weaker Corpse King. Being constantly disrupted made it impossible.

Little One was extremely furious in his heart. He even wanted to directly control the weaker Corpse King as well, but the distance was too far, making it unattainable.

......

The zombie fights in the wilderness were extremely brutal, with former human bodies now transformed into beasts, attacking each other with the most primitive claws and fangs.

The guns and cannons of Dawn City fell silent, merely observing as the 300,000 zombies charged toward the group of over a million zombies behind them.

This kind of close combat couldn't easily determine a victor in a short time.

Ye Fan, on the other hand, gained a rare breathing space. The medical team quickly treated the wounded, engineers repaired damaged buildings and city defenses, and Ye Fan patiently awaited the unlocking of technology.

At 11:30 p.m., the giant cannon development was completed.

[Commander, the engineers have successfully unlocked the giant cannon, which is now available on the defense page. Please check it out.]

Ye Fan opened the defense page and saw a giant cannon identical to the one in Dawn City.

[Giant Cannon, a special unit from Red Alert, not in the Qin and Han States' production sequence. The gun barrel measures twelve meters in length, with a caliber of 480mm and a maximum range of 38 kilometers. The turret can rotate 360 degrees and is equipped with a recoil reduction system, targeting only ground targets. It has five armor-piercing shells weighing 1.4 tons each and five high-explosive shells weighing 900 kilograms each. It lacks anti-air capabilities, so pairing with anti-air units for protection is recommended. Cost: 30,000 Gold.]

Seeing this price, Ye Fan made no hesitation, immediately constructing eight giant cannons at a cost of 240,000 Gold.

Moreover, Ye Fan found that this giant cannon did not consume electricity and was simply an artillery piece.

Despite this, eight seemed sufficient. Once these terrifying war machines with a range of 38 kilometers were fully deployed, it would be the zombies' turn to suffer.

[Construction of eight giant cannons confirmed. Each will take three hours to complete. Please be patient, commander.]

Ye Fan wasn't in a hurry, recognizing that tonight would culminate as it was, leaving everything for tomorrow.

As Ye Fan predicted, the zombie battle persisted until dawn.

Around seven in the morning, the zombie group commanded by Little One finally encircled Wang Huining's zombie group, leaving only a few thousand left.

Seeing Wang Huining's zombie group nearing annihilation, Little One finally vented his pent-up frustration.

He resolved to defeat the Corpse King who opposed him.

To accomplish this, Little One devised a tactic.

He summoned several mutant porcupines.

These porcupines had evolved to be as large as pigs, but their combat ability remained weak, offering little aid in battle.

However, their quills had grown to about 1.5 meters in length, appearing extremely sharp.

Little One had several King Kong Zombies snap off a large bunch of porcupine quills, wielding them like javelins.

These King Kongs quietly blended into the zombie ranks, avoiding fights, and swiftly approached the direction of the motorcycle.

No one noticed these actions; after a whole night, even Ye Fan was fatigued.

Once close enough, these King Kong Zombies, following Little One's orders, suddenly launched an attack.

They swung their arms with ten times the strength of a world's strongest man, hurling the bone spikes in their hands.

The sudden assault startled Shen Ruihui, who was preparing to retreat.

Fortunately, as a Heroic Unit, his reaction speed far exceeded that of ordinary soldiers, allowing him to start the motorcycle and evade at the critical moment.

Whew whew whew whew~~~!

Thump thump thump thump~~~~!

The bone spikes fell like rain behind him. Shen Ruihui managed to dodge, but Wang Huining, seated in the motorcycle's sidecar, couldn't.

A bone spike pierced through Wang Huining's chest, even penetrating the motorcycle's sidecar, pinning it to the ground!

Shen Ruihui immediately stopped to attempt a rescue, but the zombies began hurling bone spikes again.

From afar, Ye Fan, observing the situation, decisively issued a command.

"Shen Ruihui, come back!"

Forced rescue could potentially cost Shen Ruihui his life, leaving Ye Fan no choice but to abandon Wang Huining.

Indecisive actions breed chaos; Ye Fan's main forces were always the Red Alert Soldiers, not zombies.

Besides, with the chip implanted in Wang Huining by his side, Ye Fan wasn't worried about him collaborating with the Corpse King to attack.

Shen Ruihui received Ye Fan's order and decisively lifted a foot, kicking the sidecar of the tricycle off the vehicle.

Wang Huining's sidecar did not fall, and there was no expression of pain or reluctance on his face.

Watching Shen Ruihui leave, he remained calm.

During his days in Dawn City, he had always been imprisoned, without any freedom.

Having been a zombie for so long, he felt that he no longer fit in with humans, and now that he fell into the hands of another powerful Corpse King, he did not feel repulsion.

Only the chip in his brain, still loyal to Ye Fan, made him reluctant to oppose Ye Fan.

Yet, he still wanted to join the zombies; they were already his kind.

"Company Commander Shen, goodbye. If I survive, I hope you'll be promoted next time we meet."

Shen Ruihui glanced back at this Corpse King, made an OK gesture, and then drove off on the motorcycle that had just transformed from a tricycle into two wheels, rumbling away.

With Wang Huining captured alive, the siege battle on the fifth night completely came to an end.

The battle that night was much more relaxed than the previous two days, yet the results were very impressive.

The first wave of three hundred thousand Mutated Birds and Mutant Rats was completely annihilated, and the second wave, three hundred thousand, was controlled by Wang Huining.

Then Wang Huining led these three hundred thousand zombies in a counterattack, again annihilating two hundred thousand zombies.

Little One's zombie horde, after suffering losses during this night, dropped dramatically from over one million six hundred thousand to over eight hundred thousand.

Although this horde was still massive, with many Advanced Zombies, it no longer had that overwhelming oppressive feel.

When Wang Huining was taken away, he considered continuing to control Wang Huining through the chip, but as the distance increased, the signal from the chip also faded.

Ye Fan could only temporarily give up this piece, and he vaguely felt that Wang Huining being taken away might not be a bad thing.

As time arrived at eight o'clock, the Air Combat Laboratory was finally completed.

Ye Fan immediately arrived in the core zone and displayed the Air Combat Laboratory.

This was a square-shaped building, with arrangements similar to the Army Laboratory, except it researched Air Force technology.

It came with thirty scientific researchers, who immediately gathered around Ye Fan when he entered.

"Sir, welcome to the Air Combat Laboratory."

"Mm, tell me about the situation here."

An older engineer spoke: "Sir, as your military rank rises, some equipment can't be directly upgraded and listed but requires continuous research in the laboratory. With the lab unlocked, your system now has two additional airplanes. Please take a look."

Ye Fan opened the vehicle page, and sure enough, there were two additional airplanes.

[Night Hawk Helicopter: Cost 50,000 Gold, includes two crew members. Red Alert Air Force transport unit, heavy stealth transport aircraft, maximum personnel capacity of fifty, stealth capability evades enemy radar detection, equipped with a 12.7mm heavy machine gun, carrying 2,000 rounds. Maximum range without load 2,200 km. After one Star Promotion, increases personnel capacity by ten and extends range by 200 km.]

[Attack-8 Fighter: Cost 80,000 Gold, includes one pilot, independently developed third-generation fighter by the Qin Han Empire, length 21.5 meters, wingspan 9.34 meters, height 5.4 meters, maximum speed 2.2 Mach, combat radius 600 km, maximum range 2,000 km. Aircraft is equipped with one 23mm twin-barreled autocannon, has seven hardpoints, can carry thunder series air-to-air missiles, air-to-ground missiles, rockets, and bombs. Total carrying capacity of 2,200 kg. Initial configuration includes four Thunder-10 air-to-air missiles, two AR-2 air-to-ground missiles, one aerial bomb.]

[After one Star Promotion, increases speed by 0.1 Mach, adds one hardpoint, extends range by 200 km.]

Looking at these two planes, Ye Fan's heart surged with excitement.

He was familiar with the Night Hawk Helicopter, Red Alert's general transport unit, notable for its stealth and not its firepower. Its transport capability was its strong suit.

And in Red Alert, the Qin Han Empire only had one Black Hawk Fighter.

In the game, the performance of the fighter does not compare well to real-life fighters.

Even the so-called strongest Black Hawk could only carry three air-to-ground missiles, which was obviously weak in reality.

Whereas this Attack-8 Fighter was genuinely a third-generation aircraft.

Although third-generation fighters are not very advanced, nowadays, no one has them, except for Li Yuntian of Oil City, who has one modified fighter that was once flaunted, but it was shot down by Ye Fan's anti-aircraft missile.

And fighter jets, even third-generation ones, are absolutely prestigious now since no one else has them.

With this, future air supremacy could easily be achieved.

Though somewhat an overkill for attacking zombies, its deterrent effect against humans is considerable.

The price of eighty thousand Gold was acceptable; seeing this made Ye Fan feel confident.

"Corpse King, is it? Let's see if you can dodge a fighter jet's bombardment."

Ye Fan even had a piece of technology that hadn't been developed yet, likely appearing around the eighth day: the Spy Satellite.

Once this technology emerges, the current radar station would be thoroughly upgraded.

The old radar stations only had a coverage range of fifty kilometers, which was too small. Once the Spy Satellite was in play, it's conservatively estimated to expand tenfold.

By then, everything within the surveillance range would hold no secrets for Ye Fan, making rescuing survivors, collecting supply boxes, or fighting zombies much simpler.

However, Ye Fan didn't want to wait that long; he immediately selected to build one Night Hawk Helicopter and two Attack-8 Fighters!
