Wasteland Commander

Chapter 249: Collaborating with the Enemy

Xu Haichuan cried, and many survivors around him cried as well.

A woman even ran over and hugged Ye Fan's leg: "Officer, you finally came. We've suffered so much in the past half year!"

Seeing Ye Fan's military officer status, a large group of survivors surrounded him: "Officer, can you save us? We're lacking everything here—food, clothing, coal, fuel, weapons. Without aid, we're afraid we won't make it through this winter."

A slightly attractive girl even tried to get close: "Officer, please help us out. I used to be a hotel receptionist. You must have established a base, right? Take me with you. I'll do anything."

The survivors pushed forward, and at this moment, Xiaotian wasn't having it.

He let out a low growl from his throat, his enormous body like that of the Tiger King intimidating everyone.

The survivors were terrified and backed away, not daring to approach Ye Fan.

Ye Fan looked at these survivors, feeling very emotional.

The survivors of Dawn City lived a life of sheer happiness compared to these people.

In fact, these people were more representative of the apocalypse, whereas Dawn City's current scale mostly took in survivors from the outskirts of Huacheng City. The vast majority hadn't received aid.

Based on the original population ratio, the number of survivors now is equivalent to only about 2% of the past population, and this ratio is even declining.

But Ye Fan couldn't take them back to Dawn City at the moment, as he had more important matters to attend to.

Ye Fan glanced at the crowd and saw the only Level 1 Mutant.

"Are you the leader here?"

Xu Haichuan hastily nodded: "Yes, Officer, I'm Xu Haichuan. Most of these people were either saved by me or came seeking refuge."

While speaking, Xu Haichuan looked hopeful: "Officer, are you from the Empire's army? Have you established a base?"

Ye Fan thought for a moment: "We do have a base. We are the Dawn Army, fighting for the resurgence of humanity. Have you heard of us?"

Xu Haichuan nodded, though in truth, he hadn't heard much; the only mention was a broadcast by the Dawn Army a few days ago.

But now he knew that the Dawn Army was likely part of the Empire's forces.

Otherwise, such sophisticated weapons and this obviously high-class helicopter wouldn't be something ordinary people or survivor factions could possess.

Seeing that he understood, Ye Fan continued without elaboration: "You should know that we can sell supplies. If you have gold, silver, or jewels here, you can exchange them for supplies with us."

"Really? We can really exchange? Do you have weapons?"

"Yes, we have whatever you need."

Xu Haichuan's eyes lit up: "Then we need a hundred rifles, ten thousand rounds of ammunition, ten boxes of grenades, um... five flamethrowers, ten sniper rifles... and a bit of Mutant Beast Meat. Our combat team members are all malnourished."

After he finished speaking, Ye Fan asked: "You want a lot of items. Do you have enough gold?"

"Yes, Officer, follow me."

Xu Haichuan immediately got up and led Ye Fan and the others to his room.

Inside, there were two safes, and upon opening them, the glowing gold bars dazzled the eye.

Seeing this, Ye Fan hadn't expected such a small base to have so much gold.

It looked to be about a thousand kilograms, worth about a million in funds.

Ye Fan currently had just over a million in hand, and this doubled his funds instantly.

"Alright, I'll take all your gold, and I'll provide you with all the supplies you requested. Additionally, I can give you some daily supplies as a gift."

The soldiers of the Guard Company quickly counted Xu Haichuan's requested items and then moved them from the aircraft.

Box after box of brand new, shiny black weapons were opened, dazzling the eyes of these survivors.

Xu Haichuan excitedly picked up a sniper rifle, tears of excitement slipping from the corners of his mouth.

"If I had had this earlier, that big zombie would have been done for."

Other survivors also picked up various weapons, and all of them appeared much more spirited.

Two tons of Mutant Beast Meat were also taken down from the aircraft.

Although it wasn't from High-Level Mutant Beasts, its taste was excellent, incomparable to pre-apocalypse meat.

Even more importantly, it could strengthen the body. With this, Xu Haichuan's level of evolution might even increase. With long-term consumption and a Level 2 Crystal Core, there was hope for becoming a Level 2 Mutant.

They also purchased five Crystal Cores. With these, they could cultivate five mutants, and then they'd have a strong team without relying solely on Xu Haichuan for combat.

After giving all the items, Ye Fan also gifted them a few night vision goggles so they wouldn't be blind for night operations.

Xu Haichuan and his group gave countless thanks and handed all the gold to Ye Fan.

"Officer, is your Dawn City still recruiting? Can we go to Dawn City?"

"You can, but I suggest you wait until the climate warms up before going. It's located at the Kao Mountain Farm in Huacheng City."

"Alright, I've been to that place before the apocalypse. Once the snow stops and the weather is better, we'll head there."

Xu Haichuan was now full of confidence, with these weapons and Mutant Beast Meat, his team would soon grow stronger, and all survival supplies could be searched for.

Once his strength increases a bit, he will set off for Dawn City immediately.

Ye Fan didn't say much to these people; once he got the gold, he left right away.

The helicopter's rotor whipped up a massive whirlwind as it ascended powerfully.

Four helicopters took off one by one, a scene nearly unseen even before the apocalypse.

Xu Haichuan and the others watched Ye Fan leave, turning back to the house every few steps.

They were very excited now; the useless gold was exchanged for weapons, the zombies blocking the door were gone, their security greatly improved, and they could finally step out to start searching for supplies.

His girlfriend, named Jiaojiao, walked at the back.

Seeing no one paying attention to her, she raised her hand, and a pigeon flew down from the eaves immediately.

These pigeons were raised by her; even during tough times, she didn't eat them because they were carrier pigeons.

He tied a note on the carrier pigeon's leg and released it.

The carrier pigeon flapped its wings and left, flying directly toward the south, heading to Ice City.

.....

Ye Fan left the Grain Collection Station Base, continuing northward.

This time, his target was a medium-sized base with five thousand people, located in a mountain village.

The whole village was free of zombies now, only survivors remained, which could be seen clearly on the spy satellite.

Such a scale of a base surely has some gold and silver; it's hardly possible to leave empty-handed.

Indeed, as Ye Fan arrived at this base, the survivors here were also very shocked.

They hadn't restored television signals and knew little of the Dawn Army, never expected there would be helicopters—new ones, and four of them.

In the apocalypse, it represents a form of strength, deterring the fierce survivors from making reckless moves.

Don't assume that all survivors are good; in a lawless apocalypse, many have blood on their hands. Without strength, merely having resources means you won't live long.

Ye Fan's group has a Guard Company of more than a hundred people, enough to intimidate most survivors.

The trade proceeded smoothly; this time, Ye Fan harvested over three hundred thousand in funds, as not every base had Xu Haichuan's luck of running off with a truck full of gold.

After completing the trade at this base, Ye Fan began flying northeast, over two hundred kilometers away, to another base of around three thousand people.

He didn't know that after he left, someone from this base already informed the Liberation Army.

Again, the message was sent by carrier pigeon, a unique method of the Liberation Army, used initially by those dispatched by Guo Zhun.

......

Ice City Base.

It was already night, Guo Zhun opened the window, and a carrier pigeon flew in.

The person beside him raised his hand, and the pigeon landed on the arm; he took the pigeon and retrieved the note tied to its leg.

"Leader, just as you predicted, Ye Fan left the Grain Collection Station Base and truly went to the mountain village base."

"And then? Which direction did he go next?"

"He headed northeast."

Guo Zhun went to the map and looked at the markings on it.

After looking for a while, he pointed to a target.

"Leaving the mountain village base, the larger base in the northeast direction is the Volcano Lake Base. He might head there."

"Should we send the Air Force to the Volcano Lake Base?"

Guo Zhun slightly shook his head: "The timing isn't right; the Volcano Lake Base hasn't yet connected TV signals, and even radio messages aren't smooth. Ye Fan is not simple; relying solely on the Air Force might not successfully take him down. We need cooperation from a base, coordination inside and out, to ensure he is resolved."

"Then what should we do? Using carrier pigeons for communication delays timing significantly; the message might arrive just as Ye Fan has already left."

Guo Zhun thought for a moment: "Then we can only choose a bigger base to act on. Large bases have smooth communication, able to transmit messages instantly. If we find one willing to cooperate, the message can be sent right away, asking them to delay a bit over there while we dispatch the Air Force, greatly increasing the chance of success."

The subordinate spoke up: "Leader, currently restoring TV and radio inter-city dialogue, besides us and the Dawn Army, it seems only Li Yuntian from Oil City, Yan Zhihuan from Daqing Mountain, and Rikov from Hai Shan Wei have done so."

Guo Zhun nodded without speaking, eyes continually scanning the map.

"Ye Fan's first stop is northwest, the second north, the third toward northeast. With such a route, he might be planning to travel in an arc and finally loop back to Dawn City."

"In that case, might he head to Hai Shan Wei in the northeast corner?"

His subordinate noticed Guo Zhun aiming at Hai Shan Wei and immediately reminded: "Leader, Rikov from Hai Shan Wei is Rakshasa, he might not listen to our cooperation."

Guo Zhun gently shook his head: "There's nothing that can't cooperate. Rikov supported the Huacheng Survivor Alliance against the Dawn Army in a battle; the Huacheng Survivor Alliance was unfortunately defeated by the Dawn Army, making Hai Shan Wei somewhat at odds with Dawn Army. Plus, now everything is for profit; if I offer sufficient benefits, I can join forces with Rikov."

Speaking, Guo Zhun picked up the broadcast frequency microphone and chose to speak with Rikov of Hai Shan Wei.
