Wasteland Commander

Chapter 24: The Invincible Divine Dragon

On the battleship of the Dawn Army, Captain Jiang Xin stared directly at the opposing battleship.

Yamato, this is a very strong battleship.

Like the Divine Dragon, Jiang Xin had just enlisted and did not realize that he would encounter a formidable enemy immediately after joining.

Although the Yamato is not as good as the Divine Dragon, it already matches the average level of last century's battleships.

In a one-on-one scenario, Jiang Xin is absolutely confident of winning, but now more enemy forces have appeared.

The First Officer hoped to disperse the firepower and attack other battleships, but Jiang Xin vetoed it.

"Do not disperse firepower, and ignore the attacks of other battleships. I can take down the Yamato first."

"But..."

"No buts! Do not forget, we are the fleet of the Red Alert. Our black technology is unmatched by any other fleet. Do not spare the shells, do not spare the torpedoes, just keep a small portion of backup ammunition, unleash all other firepower for me!"

"Understood!"

The artillerymen opened fire with all their might, the naval guns firing fiercely at the distant Yamato!

On the water, a series of torpedoes glided away one after another.

Boom boom boom~~~~!

The naval guns spewed deadly lines of fire, streams of flame streaking across hundreds of meters of space, exploding freely on the Yamato.

At such a close distance, the hit probability is very high.

The consecutive explosions set the Yamato aflame, the hull cracking open.

Large streams of river water poured through the hull's breaches, and the ship began to tilt.

"Baka! Those damned Dawn Army warships, they want to die with the Yamato, don't they!"

"Do not forget our samurai spirit, we are always prepared to sacrifice ourselves for our country!"

Saido shouted hoarsely, unable to believe how dare the Dawn Army do this.

They only have one ship, even if they can take me with them, they cannot protect the villa area once sunk.

But now it's useless to say anything, the opponent is like a mad dog, solely focusing on striking the Yamato.

The Yamato suffered successive heavy blows, already having no power to fight back.

Meanwhile, the attacks from the other warships were evidently lacking strength, though causing some damage, it was akin to a scratch, incapable of sinking the battleship rapidly.

Boom~~~~!

A shell hit directly near the command room.

The violent explosion shattered the glass of the command room.

Two glass fragments cut across Saido's face and neck, blood gushing out immediately.

"General! Quickly follow us onto the rubber boat, this ship won't hold much longer."

Saido pushed away the approaching guards and drew the saber from his waist.

"No! Full rudder, ram into the Dawn Army warship for me! Buy time for our comrades, vow to defend the glory of our Empire to the death!"

He was a fanatic; knowing his warship couldn't be saved, he audaciously decided to make the Dawn Army battleship go down with him.

His subordinates were also a group of zealots, incredibly still driving the battleship, attempting one last fight.

Boom boom boom~~~!

The successive hits by three torpedoes caused a terrifying large explosion.

The damage in the middle part of the hull was beyond repair, water mercilessly pouring in, the warship beginning to tilt heavily.

The Japanese soldiers onboard constantly screamed, their bodies sliding into the river water.

They tried to grasp the rails, but it was futile.

The warship broke apart in the middle, just like the Titanic's sinking back then, everything irrecoverable.

The name Yamato seemed to be caught in a cycle of fate.

The former Yamato was sunk in its first battle, and this one was no exception. Clearly the world's most powerful naval vessel, yet it was sunk just like that.

Glug glug glug~~~~!

A large amount of river water entered the command room, Saido struggled to lift his head above the surface.

He desperately paddled, just to see the enemy, like him, also being targeted and sunk by his comrades.

.......

On the Dawn Army's Divine Dragon, Jiang Xin's situation was also grim.

The Divine Dragon had taken many hits in a short time.

However, the opponent's ships were smaller in tonnage, and the naval guns weren't very powerful, so the Divine Dragon still held steadfast unlike the Yamato.

Seeing the Yamato sink, Jiang Xin immediately ordered his men to switch targets.

"Target, the cruiser right in front, fire all shells at it!"

At this point, five out of nine triple-mounted naval guns had been destroyed by the enemy.

All shells were concentrated on the remaining four naval guns, with only two torpedoes left.

Yet the soldiers executed orders without any sign of exhaustion, the Divine Dragon fired again.

This cruiser was also under Japanese, albeit a modified warship, it was already the second strongest ship in their country.

Seeing the Dawn Army battleship withstand the bombardment of several of their ships, yet still sink the Yamato, the cruiser's crew was red-eyed with rage.

They fired while closing in, attempting to draw the Dawn Army battleship's attention.

They succeeded, as the Yamato's hull broke, inevitably destined to sink, the Dawn Army battleship turned its attention to them.

Boom boom boom boom~~~~!

Four triple-mounted artillery pieces fired simultaneously.

The shells struck like meteors, a few armor-piercing rounds penetrating the hull directly!

Two explosive rounds detonated inside the hull.

The violent explosion, along with the inertia of the shells, forcibly tilted the body of the cruiser.

They were just a cargo ship modified, lacking strong armor protection, and in the face of such close artillery fire, they simply had little power to resist.

"Kill them all~~~!"

The captain of the cruiser, like Saito, raised his saber, intending to perish together with the Dawn Army.

Boom boom boom boom~~~!

Another round of shelling, combined with the successive hits of two torpedoes, quickly sent the cruiser down the same path as the battleship.

He believed that his sacrifice was valuable, as the Dawn Army's battleship was also billowing with smoke, many parts were on fire, and it should not last long either.

But no one expected that right after the Dawn Army's battleship sank the cruiser, the smoke on the ship miraculously disappeared!

"What's... going on?"

Both Saito and the cruiser captain were dumbfounded.

Could it be that the rain was so heavy that it extinguished the smoke and fire?

Unlikely, such a thing is unheard of.

But they wouldn't know more, because in the deep waters, a massive black shadow was approaching.

.....

"Success!"

Inside the Divine Dragon, Jiang Xin excitedly punched the air.

After his efforts, the Divine Dragon successfully achieved star promotion!

Unlike the Barracks, Tank Factory, and Airfield, navy dock ships are initially in a No-Star state upon launch.

The Divine Dragon battleship came off the line in a No-Star status.

Seeing the multitude of warships appearing, Jiang Xin immediately formulated a tactic.

Engaging in combat with so many warships was impractical, his only strategy was to quickly sink the enemy's most powerful battleship.

Then, by sinking another somewhat valuable ship, the Divine Dragon should be able to achieve star promotion.

This is the Red Alert Team's black technology; after star promotion, the vehicle's status is restored, and all ammunition is fully replenished!

So he fired relentlessly, pouring out a massive amount of ammunition in a short time, completely sending the Yamato into the Great River.

Sinking a Yamato alone was not enough for the Divine Dragon to achieve star promotion, so the last of the firepower was focused entirely on the cruiser.

Upon sinking the cruiser once more, the Divine Dragon, then at its limit, instantly returned to its original state!

Holes in the hull were automatically repaired, damaged guns were automatically fixed!

Other than the fallen soldiers who could not be restored, everything else was restored.

The armor even became thicker, and the amount of ammunition increased significantly compared to its No-Star status.

Jiang Xin felt at this moment that his warship was glowing.

"Bah! Without that strongest battleship, your firepower is just scraping my One-Star Divine Dragon."

"It's time for these small broken ships to witness the true power of the Dawn Army's battleship!"

The nine restored triple-mounted ship guns began roaring once more.

Flames shot out from the gun barrels, streaking across the river like meteors, with even the precision of the ship guns improved.

A triple-mounted, 406mm ship gun salvo had a high probability of hitting all targets.

These shells, once fired, weighed 1250 kilograms, and their power is imaginable.

One salvo hit could sink a submarine chaser!

Two hits, and even a frigate must sink into the Great River.

With upgraded armor, resisting small enemy ship guns was no longer an issue.

The Divine Dragon began to engage along the river, using the excellent range, power, and precision of its ship guns to sink one enemy ship after another.

Black smoke billowed, flames soared into the sky!

The multinational fleet's ships hoped the torrential rain would also extinguish the smoke and fire on their ships, but it was to no avail.

This fire was hard to extinguish, and it was unknown how the Dawn Army was so fortunate.

The Dawn Army's ship guns became increasingly formidable, Jiang Xin gritted his teeth, personally directing the combat.

He was determined to create a miracle today by upgrading the Divine Dragon battleship once more, elevating it to a Two-Star battleship!

Bear in mind, the more expensive the combat unit, the harder it is to achieve star promotion; this battleship initially cost three million, and upgrading to Two-Star is no easy task.

The subsequent ships were modified cargo ships, inherently low in value, yet there were many enemy ships.

The Divine Dragon, when facing these modified cargo ships, was practically conducting a dimensional reduction strike.

Under one salvo, there was bound to be someone being sent into the Great River.

Injured!

Destroyed!

Sunk!

Attack the big ones if there are big ones, attack the small ones if there aren't.

Launch torpedoes when there are torpedoes, continue firing when they're gone!

When the main artillery shells ran out, the secondary artillery initiated an intense bombardment.

In the stormy rain, the One-Star Divine Dragon went on a killing spree.

Billowing black smoke shrouded the river, giving James and his distant marching allies a bad feeling.

He already knew the fleet encountered the Dawn Army's warship on the river and that the enemy only had one warship.

But now it seemed something was amiss, as there were too many places emitting smoke.

He couldn't help with the naval battle, and though Wanguo Island had some aircraft, the stormy weather made it hard to take off.

He could only order the other fleet taking a different route to speed up and quickly move over, to assist the first fleet in securing victory in this naval battle at all costs!
