Becoming a Saint by Touching Corpses

Chapter 112: Hunting (Part 1)

However, he was a head shorter than the other person, yet his skin was much fairer, giving him a rather peculiar appearance.

"You won't know if it works unless you try." Shi Caifeng chuckled eerily, leaving Shi Qingde speechless.

"Here, you can sleep there, is that okay?" Shi Caifeng pointed to a low bed in the corner of the tent and asked Lou Yi.

"Sure." Lou Yi nodded.

"Yan Ze, you take him around for the next couple of days." Shi Caifeng couldn't help but yawn.

She gave a quick instruction and hurriedly led her female companion toward the innermost space, where a gray cloth curtain hung.

The petite girl she was holding immediately blushed with a rosy hue on her face.

As for the other men in the squad, they usually slept on the wooden beds adjacent to the curtain, seemingly as her guards.

'Will I hear any strange noises?' Lou Yi didn't mind the simple accommodation, just worried about not sleeping well at night.

After all, his senses were far superior to others of the same level. Sometimes, having good hearing could be a hassle.

"Liu Shu, right? Come over here." Little Braids Yan Ze, having just been lectured by Lou Yi, naturally didn't put on a friendly face.

Remembering Shi Caifeng's words, he led Lou Yi to the right side of the tent.

There was a pile of black cloth, bulging and unclear about what was inside.

Yan Ze lifted a corner of the black cloth, revealing various miscellaneous items: a small tent, wooden fences, spikes, barrels, dull-looking stones, and brown-red wine jars...

"The Hundred Beasts Mountain Range is extremely dangerous. Knowing some common methods can avoid a lot of trouble."

"This is a luminous stone." Yan Ze picked up a gray, irregular stone block, "Sometimes you can't start a fire at night to see clearly around, you can add some water to this stone.

If there's no water, urine will do."

After saying this, Yan Ze scooped some water from the barrel and sprinkled it on the luminous stone.

The previously gray luminous stone instantly turned semi-transparent, emitting a faint green glow.

"This is Insect Repelling Powder." Yan Ze opened a wine jar and grabbed a handful of black powder, somewhat similar to charcoal.

He continued, "Spread the Insect Repelling Powder around where we camp. Some poisonous insects in the mountains are very sinister; even a martial artist could be half-dead if bitten!"

"Can you set up a small tent?" Yan Ze looked at Lou Yi with a challenging gaze.

"Yes."

"Go ahead and set one up."

Lou Yi walked toward the black fabric tent lying on the ground.

He first found several wooden poles to prop it up, then pulled the coarse rope attached to the top tight and fixed it to the ground with a peg, along with some wooden structural components...

A moment later, a black tent stood up in its original place.

"Have you set one up before?" Yan Ze was puzzled.

"Sort of," Lou Yi replied.

With past life outdoor camping experiences and extensive experience with chopping and handling wood, setting up a tent was no challenge for Lou Yi.

"Did you buy the 'Essentials of Survival' at the shop at the entrance?

"Read one."

"Those are incomplete." Yan Ze tossed over a blue-covered book, "A lot of things that can get you killed aren't included. Return it to me once you're done."

"Okay." Lou Yi thanked him, then sat quietly and began reading.

The book was hand-written with a brush, the handwriting elegant, clearly authored by a woman.

The text wasn't systematic, fragmented in places, yet it felt genuinely heartfelt.

'The larger the size, the brighter the color, the stranger the appearance of the fierce beast, the more you need to beware. If you can't beat it, run.'

'In the Hundred Beasts Mountain Range, people are often ten times more dangerous than spirits, remember, remember.'

'Never enter Little Lonely Mountain whenever red mist appears...'

'Damn, what's wrong with me liking women? Sweet-smelling little ladies are better than sweaty men, none of your damn business!!!'

Reading this, Lou Yi couldn't help but twitch his mouth, already guessing who the author of the book was.

...

The second day of Lou Yi's arrival, Shi Caifeng was ready to lead the entire squad to hunt spirits in the mountain.

The Cai Feng Squad consisted of eleven members: Shi Caifeng, Jiang Chenyu, Wang Yiwen, Yan Ze, Lao Ye, Shi Qingde, Lou Yi, Gu Yu, Wang Long, Zhou Pan, Liu Qi.

Apart from Lou Yi and Shi Qingde, who were both first-blood warriors, the others were mostly at the second-blood level.

Only two had reached the level above Minor Circulation, namely Captain Shi Caifeng and Vice-Captain Jiang Chenyu.

Jiang Chenyu was the man in green, initially displeased with Shi Qingde's unilateral decision to bring in Lou Yi.

Most of them were in their twenties or thirties.

Lao Ye was an exception, being over sixty, an experienced Beast Tamer.

Dissecting spirit corpses and searching for Blood-Nourishing Essence Meat was technical work — the older, the more experienced.

Every squad in the Beast Hunting Camp must keep a Beast Tamer.

"A couple of days ago, I spotted a Wild Boar Spirit on Cui Ping Mountain. Today we must take it down to prevent other squads from interfering." Shi Caifeng appeared rough and carefree but acted with a plan.

Cui Ping Mountain was only a trivial hill on the outskirts of the Hundred Beasts Mountain Range, but its height reached two or three hundred feet, thick with vegetation and brambles, making it almost impossible to find a path up.

"Everyone, split into two columns, keep an eye out for any movement!"

"Old rules, Gu Yu, Wang Long, scout ahead, release a Whistling Arrow at any spirit found but don't engage."

"Jiang Chenyu, you lead the way with me, Liu Qi, Zhou Pan, you two cover the rear, the others stay in the middle."

Shi Caifeng began issuing orders, her hoarse yet magnetic voice inherently carrying an air of authority.

Everyone called upon had a serious expression.

"Yes!"

"Got it, Big Sis!"

"Okay!"

Two figures scurried towards Cui Ping Mountain's forest with 'swish swish' sounds, namely Gu Yu and Wang Long, who were ordered to scout.

Gu Yu was a middle-aged martial artist in his forties, with legs moving rapidly like skipping noodles.

He was several times faster than any athlete Lou Yi had seen in his previous life, disappearing from view within moments.

"Old Gu mastered a Step Technique: Wind and Fire Step, fast as the wind, swift as fire. Speed-wise, he'd rank second in our squad."

Shi Caifeng explained as she led the way, introducing Lou Yi and the others.

The other man, Wang Long, was around thirty.

Though his speed couldn't match Gu Yu, he moved nimbly, hopping left and right, up and down.

Upon reaching the first tall tree, he climbed swiftly to the treetop, using the branches' bounce to launch himself forward, resembling a monkey.

"Wang Long practiced the Gecko Wall-Climbing Skill, specializing in concealing himself in forests, hunting prey. Sometimes even I can't find him." Shi Caifeng continued, then looked toward Shi Qingde and Lou Yi, "Every martial artist has their signature martial arts; never let your guard down, or you'll suffer big losses."

"Stay alert, observe front and back!"

Lou Yi and Shi Qingde stood together.

According to the squad's requirements, the two newcomers wore dark brown leather armor, held black-red spears, and donned hard bamboo-woven hats, fully equipped.

The mountain path was rugged; sometimes they used spears to clear the underbrush, at other times, they cut down brambles with knives.

After an hour or so, they hadn't encountered a single spirit, yet their energy was significantly drained.
