Becoming Great Emperor by Playing Game

Chapter 240: Carrot Village Guardian Spirit?

Just as Chen Lan was deep in thought, a sudden voice interrupted his contemplation.

He turned around cautiously and was momentarily stunned. Before him stood an exquisitely cute little girl, dressed in a white furry cotton jacket, holding a woven wooden basket containing several herbs. Her eyes showed no fear of strangers, but rather curiosity.

What surprised Chen Lan was that the girl had a pair of long, white rabbit ears atop her head.

"Big brother, can you hear me?" the little girl spoke again, looking at Chen Lan with curiosity and confusion.

"Hmm? Yes, I'm here to pick herbs, but it doesn't seem there are any here," Chen Lan replied with a deliberately regretful smile.

"What kind of herbs are you looking for? I know where many herbs are here, and I can take you there," the little girl said with a smile.

"No need." Chen Lan shook his head and smiled as he walked out.

Once outside the cave, he noticed the little girl kept following him, which left him a bit confused. He turned back and asked, "Why are you following me?"

"Are you human?"

At these words, Chen Lan slightly frowned. Had he been exposed so quickly?

Should he kill this girl?

Just as Chen Lan was about to act against the seemingly adorable rabbit-eared girl, she began to jump around with excitement.

"You didn't speak, so you must be human. I can't believe I've seen a human, wow!" The girl exclaimed enthusiastically, circling around Chen Lan, examining him up and down with an expression of intense excitement, much like someone observing a monkey at the zoo, leaving Chen Lan at a loss for words.

She seemed really excited, didn't she?

"Grandpa always said humans aren't as scary as they seem, and they've helped us a lot. I've always wanted to see what humans look like. I didn't expect to see one today, and you're so handsome! Not at all like what Uncle and Auntie said, that humans are ugly and fearsome."

The girl touched Chen Lan's clothing here and his hand there, filled with curiosity. This was her first time seeing a human, and she realized they weren't much different except they lacked the characteristics of the Demon Race.

"Oh? Is that so? Then can you take me to meet your grandfather?" Chen Lan asked with a light smile, thinking this world seemed to have humans—a world where humans and demons coexist.

Maybe he could find this little rabbit's grandfather to learn more about this world.

"Sure, I'll let Uncle and Auntie see that humans can be good-looking," the little girl said with a smile, grabbing Chen Lan's hand and leading him outward.

Seeing this, Chen Lan smiled. This little rabbit girl was rather adorable, so he didn't let go of her hand and followed her.

Along the way, he asked many questions. The rabbit girl, named Hu Tutu, explained that their village is called Carrot Village because they are part of the Rabbit Demon clan, which loves eating carrots, hence the name.

But Hu Tutu said she didn't like carrots and preferred to eat cabbage instead.

She mentioned her grandfather being the village chief and the most powerful demon in the village, and that their village had a protective spirit watching over them.

The mention of a protective spirit piqued Chen Lan's interest. It seemed every world was different, and this world apparently had this notion of guardian spirits. He intended to observe the situation later.

It wasn't long before Hu Tutu led Chen Lan to a village. With a sweep of his Divine Sense, he found the village wasn't very large, home to a few thousand rabbit demons who looked similar to humans but for the rabbit ears atop their heads.

"This is Carrot Village. You wait here for a moment; I'll go inform Grandpa," she said.

With that, Hu Tutu ran inside, calling out loudly.

"Grandpa, Uncles, Aunts, I brought a human back for you to see!"

Chen Lan was rendered speechless. Was it really necessary to shout so loudly?

Thanks to the little rabbit's shouting, it wasn't long before dozens of rabbit demons emerged. They all looked Chen Lan up and down with curious eyes, making Chen Lan feel somewhat embarrassed. This feeling reminded him of participating in a school gala, where he was forcibly signed up by Luo Tao to sing on stage, being watched by everyone.

Luckily, his singing was decent enough not to embarrass himself.

"It really is a human. Why did one come to our village?"

"Could they be here to kill us?"

"Is it just one human? Shouldn't we report to King Tiger?"

"No, if King Tiger finds out there's a human, he might come to eat him. We have no grudges with humans and don't need to do that."

Listening to the rabbit demons' discussions, Chen Lan slightly frowned. What was this King Tiger they mentioned?

At this moment, an elder, supported by Hu Tutu, emerged. This must be Hu Tutu's grandfather and the village chief.

"Grandpa, this is the human I brought back. He wants to ask you some questions," Hu Tutu pointed at Chen Lan with a smile.

The elder nodded, walking up to Chen Lan, sizing him up, and said with a smile, "Young friend, is this your first time in the Ancient Wilderness Demon Realm, or have you lost your way?"

"It's my first time here. I accidentally stumbled into a Teleportation Array and ended up here. I hope you can enlighten me, as I want to learn more about this world," Chen Lan said with a smile.

"Then come with me. It's dangerous here; be careful and watch your step," the elder said seriously after glancing around, leading the way into the village.

Hearing this, Chen Lan was slightly taken aback. It seemed humans weren't safe here, probably related to that King Tiger.

Immediately, he followed the old village chief inside. The rabbit demons along the way watched him with curiosity and caution, holding weapons in their hands as if they feared he might harm them.

As they passed the center of the village, he saw a statue, lifelike and of a woman. Even as a statue, one could see her exquisite features, and like the other rabbit demons, she had a pair of rabbit ears.

Moreover, the statue emitted a strong energy aura, seeming as if it were alive.

"Village Chief, who is this statue?" Chen Lan stopped to ask.

The village chief briefly hesitated, then looked at the statue with immense respect and said in a deep voice, "She is our village's guardian spirit, the Rabbit God, who has protected our Carrot Village for generations."

"Guardian spirit? What is that?" Chen Lan asked.

"A guardian spirit is a type of deity. They sacrifice their soul, bury their body somewhere, becoming the guardian spirit of a place, ensuring the village's safety. Each guardian spirit is very powerful; our Carrot Village's guardian spirit, the Rabbit God, is at the quasi-emperor level."

Hearing this, Chen Lan understood that the guardian spirit was akin to a soul guarding the village. Normally, it might not seem special, but perhaps it would display its divine power during times of invasion.

"You can't come in!"

Suddenly, a commotion erupted outside, as if someone were intruding.

"Old man, it's been so long. Why hasn't the food our leader requested been delivered? Are you trying to default on the payment?"

A domineering voice sounded behind Chen Lan.
