How could Hoshino Yoshi be on the Capital High?
Hearing this place name, Chen Xiangbei was somewhat puzzled.
Japan has two world-famous street racing routes, namely the C1 loop and the Bayshore line.
Both are part of Japan's capital highway system, but to better distinguish and name them, the C1 loop uses the specific name of Capital High while the Bayshore line is still referred to as Bayshore.
Around the 1990s, the Bayshore Line was practically unparalleled, attracting almost all the underground masters in Japan and even professional racers, all looking for a chance to race a lap. It was simply an "Nurburgring North Loop" of underground racing.
Thanks to this popularity, the manga "Midnight Bay" and the game "Midnight Club" became popular, becoming childhood memories for a generation.
Even the infamous "Top Gear" trio once came to the Japan Bayshore for a special report.
As the saying goes, the bigger the tree, the more wind it attracts. Initially, the Japanese authorities turned a blind eye to such activities to promote the automotive industry, but who would have thought it would become so explosive.
Not just among racing circles, but even tourists started regarding the Bayshore line as a must-visit attraction, coming from all over the world. The Japanese authorities could no longer ignore it and were forced to crack down.
The situation is much like when "Initial D" became popular throughout Asia, with crowds flocking to Gunma Prefecture's Mount Hengame, forcing the local authorities to install dozens of speed bumps on the mountain road, making it bumpy like a washboard, challenging any attempts at drifting and becoming a Qiuming Mountain car god!
As time passed and enforcement became stricter, the Japan Bayshore Line gradually declined after the 2000s, with underground racers shifting to the Capital High.
Compared to the Bayshore Line's long straight roads requiring high horsepower, the Capital High C1 loop has more curves and more complex road conditions. Naturally, this offers higher challenges for racers, making it more thrilling to drive.
Upon learning Hoshino Yoshi's location, Chen Xiangbei wasted no time and called Qin Lianjie to head to Tokyo together.
Though he had heard of the Bayshore Line and Capital High, he had never been to Japan, and was completely unfamiliar with the situation there in his past life.
Qin Lianjie had studied in Japan for many years and was a street racer who had raced on the Bayshore Line and the Capital High, essentially making him half a "local."
Having him accompany would make things much easier.
After arriving in Tokyo via Shinkansen, Qin Lianjie did not take Chen Xiangbei directly to the Capital High but went first to his detached villa in the Shinjuku District to drive a car.
With the crackdown on the Bayshore Line, underground racers on the Capital High were also much more low-key. Gathering spots were secretive and varied, making it hard to find them without a car.
Walking into the underground garage, as Qin Lianjie pulled off the car cover, a red Toyota Supra, commonly known as "Bull Demon King," a two-door sports car, appeared in Chen Xiangbei's view.
In an instant, a gleam flashed in his eyes.
The Toyota Supra is a product of the peak era of Japanese performance cars, representing Toyota's highest-level technology in supercars, once standing alongside the Honda NSX, Mitsubishi GTO, and Mazda FC, known as the "Four Heavenly Kings"!
"You sly dog, hiding such a gem in Tokyo."
Chen Xiangbei's tone was somewhat excited. He had always thought Qin Lianjie was a "Honda enthusiast," unexpectedly having such a legendary Toyota car.
"The Capital High is not Nanyun Mountain. On such routes, small-power naturally aspirated cars can easily get left behind, so you must prepare some heavy-duty stuff."
With that, Qin Lianjie tossed the keys to Chen Xiangbei.
"Give it a try."
Without hesitation, Chen Xiangbei opened the door and sat in the driver's seat.
In the peak era of Japanese performance cars, after the 2008 financial crisis, they either ceased production or compromised on costs, turning into mismatches. Experiencing them in later times became increasingly rare.
This car from Qin Lianjie had scheduled maintenance entrusted, and twisting the key started it with ease. The subsequent deep roar of the 2JZ engine resonated like a heavenly melody, making one's heart surge with excitement.
"Qin Lianjie, how much have you modified this car?"
Chen Xiangbei casually asked.
"The base of this car is excellent. I just tweaked the software a bit, not much major modification."
Due to the "gentlemen's agreement" among Japanese manufacturers in the past, even with the 2JZ, a twin-turbo inline-6 fabulous engine, the power limit was capped at 280 horsepower.
However, the stock power of a Toyota Supra 3.0T is 340 horsepower, meaning even without modifications, lifting the restrictions allows you to immediately gain 60 horsepower for nothing.
A simple stage two ECU tune, increasing the turbo boost, while not touching the overall hardware foundation, allows the Toyota Supra to easily break through 400 horsepower!
Shifting gears, releasing the clutch, and starting off, Chen Xiangbei did not drive the "Bull Demon King" aggressively to feel its performance but drove as smoothly as if it were a grocery car on Tokyo streets.
"Having seen you speed so many times, it's a bit unusual to see this."
Qin Lianjie teasingly remarked, still clearly remembering the scenes of Chen Xiangbei driving performance cars at high speeds.
To this, Chen Xiangbei smiled. They were merely ways to showcase his skills.
Leaving the bustling downtown of Shinjuku, Chen Xiangbei drove the Toyota Supra onto the C1 loop.
Since it was already in the Cinderella hours of the night, on the Capital High compared to downtown, the chances of encountering modified performance cars were significantly higher.
However, Chen Xiangbei did not witness any "random challenges" on the street, nor did anyone flash their lights at him for a challenge. It felt like driving on an ordinary city highway.
"Qin Lianjie, I heard that Bayshore or Capital High racers flash their lights to challenge when encountering an interesting opponent. Why does it look so peaceful now?"
