Odetto doesn't understand the Chinese idiom for burning one's boats, but he knows a similar sentiment.
The fuel for two flying laps is Chen Xiangbei's "back-against-the-wall" moment; either he directly outruns his opponents or returns to the pit and ends the race.
"Yes, I know."
"Start!"
Without further words, Odetto issued the start command to the team members.
With the roar of the engine igniting, Chen Xiangbei drove the Renault race car onto the track and began his warm-up lap.
"Super Dream Team's number 13 driver, Xiangbei, is now on the track. He is a rookie from China."
"Mike, what do you think his performance will be in the Renault European Cup?"
FIA official commentator James, seeing the number 13 car on the broadcast screen, asked his partner Mike.
He initially had no impression of this Chinese rookie, Chen Xiangbei, nor did he pay special attention to the Super Dream Team. The reason he mentioned it now was due to Odetto's confidence in a pre-race interview, boldly claiming that Chen Xiangbei would win the championship!
That's how the attention came about. Whether feasible or not, it at least made James remember this moment.
"Judging purely by qualifying performance, he should be around twentieth place."
Mike objectively gave an expected answer.
China has had a few drivers before who came to Europe to participate in lower-level races.
The fact that they can venture abroad naturally makes them the strongest among their Chinese peers, meaning their baseline won't be too low.
However, likewise, the overall level of Chinese racing limits how high the ceiling can be.
In most cases, Chinese drivers rank in the lower levels of European racing but not to the extent of being at the bottom.
Of course, if it's a high-level formula race, bottoming out is no surprise.
"Only around twentieth?"
James laughingly teased, "Super Dream Team Leader Odetto rates driver Xiangbei as having championship potential!"
"Looks like that's why Odetto went from a former F1 team leader to leading an entry-level formula team."
Mike, catching on, responded, making a slight jab at Odetto.
Despite being a former F1 leader, boasting about his driver so recklessly truly lowers his professional standards!
With Mike's comment, laughter erupted from the track's audience.
Indeed, in the history of formula teams, there's never been an F1 team leader who came to lead an entry-level formula team.
Although there are some objective factors involved, unquestionably, Odetto's "demotion" leaves an impression of being unremarkable.
At this moment, not only was the commentary booth discussing Chen Xiangbei, but above the pit lane in the VIP box with floor-to-ceiling windows, two elderly figures were watching the Super Dream Team's number 13 car that just exited the pit lane.
One of the elderly figures was sitting in a wheelchair, none other than the famous Sir Williams.
"Staler, is this the Chinese rookie your East Sea partners requested special attention for?"
Sir Williams was left paralyzed from the waist down after a car accident in 1986, but this didn't affect his management of the team or his passion for motorsport.
Over the years, he continuously followed the team in F1 events, attending various business activities during his spare time to secure as many sponsorships as possible to keep the Williams Team running.
Yet, despite this, the Williams Team's financial situation continued to decline.
In 2005, Sir Williams even had to sell his private jet to increase investment in the team's development.
"Yes."
Staler nodded, not showing any particular intention to "introduce."
The reason being his personal friendship with Zhang Zhicong was okay, but his cooperation with Huasi Sports was quite unpleasant!
In business, as an investor putting in real money, he naturally aims for substantial returns.
Huasi Sports had been in the game for five years, with Staler using all his contacts and resources, even securing Ford Group's engine supply and Honda's technical support, yet the result was a mess!
For five whole years, they couldn't even produce a potential top-tier formula race or a renowned F1 driver, let alone a promising talent to go international.
Until Staler, disappointed, returned to the United Kingdom for nearly half a year, Zhang Zhicong called him to say that Huasi Sports had produced a rookie in the last moment, now competing in the Renault European Cup, hoping for special attention based on past acquaintances.
Staler's first reaction to this call was that the other party was joking.
After seriously engaging in formula racing for five years, not nurturing a single driver, now on the brink of closure, yet someone is competing in the United Kingdom.
For a moment, Staler even suspected whether Zhang Zhicong still intended to "deceive" investment from him.
Fortunately, Zhang Zhicong didn't make such a move and informed him about Huasi Sports' bankruptcy and liquidation. Only then, did Staler tentatively come to Silverstone Circuit to see what the level of this Chinese rookie was.
Sir Williams, being British, plus F1 had no races that week, heard about it and accompanied his old friend to join in on the fun.
"If I remember correctly, the Silverstone Circuit entry-level formula record was set by Schumacher with 1 minute 57 seconds and 582 milliseconds; now the fastest lap is 1 minute 58 seconds and 066 milliseconds."
"This Renault European Cup lineup is strong overall; it'll be tough for a Chinese rookie to stand out."
Sir Williams may not remember other things, but European track records are etched into his mind as if they were carved there.
