Car Racing without Money

Chapter 120: The True Nemesis of the Track (Double-Length)

Many times, James couldn't help but miss the F1 of the 80s and 90s, when there were no eco-friendly policies or political correctness, and every driver was filled with aggression.

They were always challenging the limits of the track and speed, always on the brink of losing control.

Even superstars like Senna and Schumacher had the courage to rather crash into pieces than slow down, and that was the unbridled soul of a racer!

"Even if Xiangbei starts from pole position, it's still not easy to defend the championship."

"Whether it's Magnussen or Vergne, or Costa and George, they are all ready to snipe."

"This race concerns the honor of European drivers, and Xiangbei is the track's public enemy!"

Compared to James's neutrality, Mike had an inherent superiority of an old white man and never favored Chen Xiangbei from the beginning.

The more flamboyant and strong the Chinese Kid behaved, the more he encountered united resistance from other European drivers on the track.

Especially the "conflict" with Mansell in qualifying touched the nerves of many local fans, who saw it as a provocation to the dominance of European racing!

Just like Mike said, the reporters at the pre-race interview focused their attention on Magnussen starting in the front row and Mansell at the back of the lineup.

When the camera zoomed in on Magnussen, and his face appeared on the big screen, the paddock erupted with fanatical cheers akin to thunder.

Chen Xiangbei's popularity indeed rose quickly, attracting many supporters to come.

But compared to a European rising star like Magnussen, it was clear he was far behind in fan base.

"If it wasn't for the FIA's penalty, the pole position shot would be Brother Bei's."

Standing by holding the tire dolly, Ah Yong murmured sourly.

"No worries, they won't be cheering for long."

Lu Xiaoman replied with a disdainful expression, holding a water bottle.

Magnussen, perhaps influenced by the audience's cheers, made a "1" gesture towards the camera, announcing his intention to win this race!

The grandstand audience, seeing Magnussen's gesture, had their emotions ignited. This was the confidence and verve a European rising star should have!

"Go, Magnussen, prove yourself in this race."

"It's time for you to stand out, don't let us down!"

"We still have Magnussen, the Chinese Kid can't dominate the track!"

Compared to Magnussen's silent declaration, on the other side of the camera, Mansell simply played along with reversing black and white.

He accused Chen Xiangbei of malicious overtaking during qualifying, saying that his emergency avoidance caused the wall crash, and expressed extreme dissatisfaction with the FIA's penalty!

He also stated that Chen Xiangbei's dangerous driving should be banned, while his own yielding avoided a bigger double-car accident, and the FIA should commend him.

Even European and American viewers found it hard to endure Mansell's shamelessness.

After all, being the symbol of British courage, the son of "Lion King" old Mansell, shouldn't he have at least lost with dignity?

Did he really think that tens of thousands of spectators at the qualifying scene yesterday were blind?

At this point, Hank from Sky Sports suddenly appeared, wearing a playful smile, and pointed the microphone at Chen Xiangbei inside the cockpit.

"Xiangbei, what do you think of Mansell's accusation?"

Chen Xiangbei just shrugged and replied, "If Mansell wants to accuse, let him accuse, his mouth is on him, what can I do?"

Hearing this answer from Chen Xiangbei, Hank inadvertently frowned.

This didn't quite fit the tough style of the Chinese Kid. Did he admit defeat in front of the "Lion King's" son?

But then Chen Xiangbei's lips curled into a sarcastic smile, adding to the microphone, "But I'm dead set on Mansell, and if there's a chance to meet him next race, I'll overtake him again."

Using the lightest tone to deliver the harshest words!

Now it was not only Hank who was surprised, but the whole audience erupted in an uproar.

Normally, the Chinese Kid was just overly confident, making some boastful remarks.

But today's answer was like a drawn sword, giving off a sharp edge.

Knowing this was a British home ground, knowing the opponent was the "Lion King's" son, yet so unapologetically blunt?

"Shit, even if Mansell is a bit disgraceful, the Chinese is too arrogant!"

"Driver Bei, don't be too arrogant, remember this is Britain's home track!"

"You're not worthy of insulting the 'Lion King's' son. Do you believe that Mansell will knock you off the track next race?"

Hearing these indistinct shouts, Chen Xiangbei's mocking smile grew wider.

"The 'Lion King's' son?"

More like a tiger father and a dog son!

The jeers also helped Hank regain his composure, and just as he wanted to press questions further, the whistle for clearing the track sounded, and all unrelated personnel had to leave.

"Brother Bei, you're awesome."

Before leaving, Ah Yong sneakily gave Chen Xiangbei a thumbs up.

Soon there was only Odetto, the team leader, and Liang Chi, holding the external ignition system, standing at the rear of Chen Xiangbei's car.

They were the last technical staff to leave, needing to wait for the second whistle on the track.

"Kid, the commentary calls you the track's public enemy, feeling you might be ganged up on, how do you respond?"

"Are you serious, you're the strategy leader, asking me how to respond?"

Chen Xiangbei replied with a laugh and cry, Odetto was really reversing roles here!

"Seems like that's the logic."

Odetto nodded, agreeing quite readily with Chen Xiangbei's viewpoint.
