Facing the Apocalypse with My Other Selves

Chapter 209: High Martial World! (Part 2)

Many of the Shen Yu had their brows slightly furrowed.

They could obviously discern a deeper implication beneath this kind of rule.

—Resource scarcity.

Just a slightly inferior talent would lead one to walk two utterly different paths in life, creating a chasm between destinies.

This is a typical situation born of resource scarcity.

No matter how great the reproductive pressure, this difference is negligible. Moreover, Martial Arts Masters are perfectly capable of reproduction, and even their offspring's talent can be stronger.

"What resources do you use for cultivation now?" Shen Yu directly asked aloud.

The result was unsurprising.

It was merely some special nutrient solution.

Though it did contain a certain amount of Extraordinary Power, it absolutely did not reach the level of "Gao Wu."

Even in Shen Yu's current world, the resources available to ordinary people for cultivation are not worse than these.

Evidently, the humans of this world can only employ such methods for preliminary selection.

Once those with certain talent have been sifted out from the grassroots, only then will more resources be expended for their nurture.

Essentially, these are all ways to economize resources.

"What is the current population of humanity?" Shen Yu asked again.

"If we speak only in the narrow sense—namely, the humans of my civilization—there are about thirty-one point two billion people," High-Level Martial Artist Shen Yu replied, "If speaking broadly, then the number is much greater. As one of the races of the Myriad Realms, humanity exists widely in all known worlds, occupying a status much like rats; although our reproductive capacity doesn't match some more extreme species, when combined with survival ability and development potential, our total numbers absolutely rank near the top."

Comparing humanity to rats may sound unflattering, but it does offer a general idea.

In other words, not powerful—yet present everywhere.

This is a somewhat better outcome.

The population of the human civilization where High-Level Martial Artist Shen Yu is located also exceeds expectations.

"Continue with your own affairs," Shen Yu said. "We'll just follow alongside you and observe. Should anything arise, communicate directly with us via consciousness link."

Due to the intensity of the world's investigation into Extraordinary Power, even the Divine Sense of Shen Yu's group could hardly be extended outward.

The investigation would require more time.

The best approach was still to follow behind High-Level Martial Artist Shen Yu and delve a bit deeper in understanding.

High-Level Martial Artist Shen Yu nodded slightly.

Through the Association, Shen Yu had provided him with a batch of Newcomer Gray Mist. Were it not for this, he might have caused a huge stir by now.

His body would uncontrollably and frantically absorb Primordial Energy.

This would undoubtedly be discovered.

However, by borrowing the Gray Mist now, he could endure patiently while continuing his "routine."

When he journeyed to the Gray Mist Space, it was just an ordinary noon; now it was nearly time for school. Han Qingyan walked out of her room.

"Let's go." The girl's brows carried unshakeable fatigue and pressure; clearly, she had not given up.

"Coming." High-Level Martial Artist Shen Yu followed behind her, seemingly wanting to say something, but after hesitating, kept silent.

The two walked out of the dorm together and took transport to school.

Shen Yu's group noticed that their relationship was not as cold as it appeared outwardly. Subtle, unconscious gestures all revealed genuine concern for each other.

But in this period of immense pressure, it was difficult to muster any enthusiasm for romance.

Or, put another way, discussing love during this phase seemed itself a luxury.

Shen Yu and the others also watched the streets.

Somewhat unexpectedly, most people looked quite spirited; many wore smiles, and their living conditions were actually not bad.

Each was healthy in body, dressed cleanly and neatly.

More or less, everyone possessed some Martial Arts Power.

"Ordinary people's living conditions aren't exactly lacking," Shen Yu suddenly commented.

"This is a change brought by the past century," High-Level Martial Artist Shen Yu explained. "A hundred years ago, Human Civilization produced a leader of remarkable vision. He believed a civilization must never consider itself weak or lose its courage to change. For that, the entirety of civilization needed a hope for a better life, so he strongly promoted the improvement of ordinary people's living conditions—not only materially but also spiritually. Only then could busy lives become meaningful."

These ideas are taught in schools.

In truth, despite Han Qingyan's appearance of overwhelming pressure—

It was only that she held higher ambitions in her heart.

But most people had long accepted reality; living as an ordinary person was not so bad.

High-Level Martial Artist Shen Yu and Han Qingyan rode the hover bus, arriving swiftly at school.

This was a Martial Arts Middle School specifically designed to prepare students for Martial Arts University.

Just from the exterior, it looked imposing and immaculate.

Far grander than other buildings.

This underscored the civilization's emphasis on Martial Arts.

Upon entering, the many Shen Yu immediately noticed certain details.

First was the Primordial Energy.

The Primordial Energy here was at least dozens of times greater than outside!

"Indeed," Shen Yu murmured in the link, "Extraordinary Power in this world is not all that meager. It has simply been redistributed by human intervention—resources concentrated among a minority."

A Martial Arts Middle School alone possessed dozens of times the Primordial Energy of the outside; what about Martial Arts University?

Every Martial Arts University in this civilization is comprised of officers!

Afterwards, the many Shen Yu quietly kept High-Level Martial Artist Shen Yu company for half a day at school.

They did not do all that much.

First, cultivation.

Their cultivation method was a technique suitable for everyone, combining movement and stillness, mainly focused on gathering Primordial Energy, circulating blood and qi, and strengthening the physique.

There were nine stages in total.

Covering the entire "Mortal" power level.

After that came Martial Arts Divine Power.

That is, the Martial Immortal or True Master Realm.

Before this stage, Martial Arts only reinforced the body, relentless strengthening, without much else in the way of spiritual intent.

Only upon reaching Divine Power does one truly step through the door, gaining eligibility to be a foot soldier on the Battlefield of Myriad Realms.

Yes, just a foot soldier.

This is explicitly taught in school curricula.

Longevity, immortality, limitless lifespan, and formidable Divine Power at the Divine Power Realm—these just barely qualify you to stand on the Battlefield of Myriad Realms.

"Their power level truly isn't low," Cultivator Shen Yu reviewed their cultivation and spoke softly, "Compared to cultivation, this method is far more straightforward—not a process of exploring Heavenly Dao and the world's truths, but one that continually strengthens oneself and unlocks the body's treasures, the principles of life. This allows them to take that step more easily, but in sheer power, a newly advanced Divine Power Realm is likely weaker than a newly advanced True Master Realm."

In fact, given the Association's current understanding of Extraordinary Power, only one realm is the same across different Extraordinary Systems.

That is the realm of attaining Longevity.

With Extraordinary Power, a certain threshold of life is broken, leading to a complete transformation of the life's essence.

Beyond that, comparison becomes difficult.

Cultivation and Magic are somewhat similar at the mortal level, but Shen Yu's Martial Arts World is different again.

This world is the same.

The best reference point is Divine Power.

"Better accessibility with weaker actual manifestation," Shen Yu concluded—then paused and added, "This should only apply in the early stages. As I see it, regardless of the path of Extraordinary Power, once you reach a certain height, there will be no clear superiority. The difficulty will be the same, and each transformation at a higher life level belongs only to a rare few. Such is the essence of Extraordinary Power."
