Longevity through Upgrading Buildings

Chapter 100: [Spirit Field: Level 2]

Ji Yuan glanced at his panel, and currently, the distribution of Level 1 and Level 2 buildings was as follows.

[Level 1: Enlightenment Room, Talisman Room, Spirit Field, Alchemy Room]

[Level 2: Fish Pond, Chicken Cage, Pigsty, Cave Mansion]

He'd always thought that upgrading this and that was a hassle, but looking at it now, he didn't actually have that many buildings.

Once his cultivation reached the peak of Qi Refining, and while he was preparing the Foundation Establishment Pill, he could really begin to make use of his buildings' effects.

Things like [Array Room], [Artifact Refining Room], [Scripture Pavilion], and so on, he could try constructing as well.

For the time being, the most important thing was still improving his cultivation strength.

As for where to place the buildings, Ji Yuan had thought it through on the way here: things like [Fish Pond], [Chicken Cage], [Pigsty]—these definitely had to be placed up on the island.

He would need to get those buildings built soon.

Secondly, [Cave Mansion], [Talisman Room], and [Alchemy Room], Ji Yuan planned to place all three inside his original cave mansion.

He would just need to carve out three new stone chambers.

Now that he had the space... using one stone chamber for three buildings, and just pasting paper to swap their effects?

What kind of pauper lifestyle is that!

A big household needs proper, separate rooms!

Ji Yuan had lots of ideas, but at present, the real issue was getting serious with construction and building upgrades.

[Fish Pond], [Pigsty], and [Chicken Cage] were pretty easy—just fence off an area, get them built, and claim the daily welfare first.

As for island planning... A place this big certainly needed a proper plan, but not just yet.

Right now, his only "worker" was Tu Yue. If he set the buildings too far apart, most of her day would probably be spent commuting.

So the best approach was to build nearby for now, make do, and once he reached Foundation Establishment and upgraded [Cave Mansion] to Level 3, with the Star Spiral Cloud Barrier array, then he could make a full island plan.

After waiting a while, the big toad hopped along behind him, croaking "guagua—" non-stop.

Ji Yuan summoned his flying sword and sent out several sword-lights, clearing out a large open space below the cliff.

He only cut down the trees, leaving the roots in place, but that was fine since it was just for raising chickens and pigs. The fish pond, though, was a bit tricky.

Ji Yuan then piloted the Thunder Falcon Boat and searched the area carefully.

He was hoping to find a natural hollow—just add water and be done, saving him from digging a pit.

To his surprise, heading north just a short distance, Ji Yuan discovered an ideal spot!

A small lake about a li across!

When he arrived, he saw several small fish blowing bubbles along the shore. Alarmed, they quickly swam away.

This was a great spot, already filled with water.

Ji Yuan waited by the shore for a while, and the big toad jumped over, sharp-eyed. It stuck out its tongue, shot it into the water, and in one swift curl, swallowed a fish the length of an arm.

After eating, it pulled a face of disgust, then gazed hopefully at Ji Yuan.

The intention was pretty clear.

But Ji Yuan ignored it, just staring at the lake surface.

Too bad he waited a good while and never saw that familiar notification appear on the lake.

The panel didn't seem to recognize it as his [Fish Pond]. So what to do?

Ji Yuan turned his attention to the big toad. He pointed to the lake, then to himself, meaning: give the lake to me.

That was a pretty simple request, which the big toad managed to understand, although it seemed reluctant.

But its reluctance lasted only a moment, because when Ji Yuan revved up the flying boat, as if ready to leave, the big toad hurriedly nodded.

[Fish Pond: Level 2]

Along with the notification, a drop of Water Dew appeared, floating above the surface.

Finally done!

Ji Yuan flicked his sleeve and pocketed the Water Dew. Immediately, the whole fish pond shimmered with a faint greenish-white glow—if outsiders saw it, they'd probably think this lake was hiding some Earth Treasure.

Honestly, they wouldn't be far off.

With Ji Yuan's panel boost, the fishes in the lake would grow rapidly, and with some semi-Spirit Fish, there was hope to cultivate true Spirit Fish.

No need to display the building's look—just extra trouble.

With [Fish Pond] settled, next up were the other buildings.

...

In the blink of an eye, six days passed.

At dawn, Ji Yuan woke to the chirping of birds outside his forest hut. At this point, he still felt a bit dazed, like the whole experience had been unreal.

To think he could find such a hidden island, with the big toad as a guardian—he had no worries about unwelcome guests.

With pleasant thoughts swirling, Ji Yuan stretched lazily out of bed.

Stepping outside, breathing in the fresh forest air, a flash of green light glimmered on his boots. With a few strides, he reached the [Pigsty] and [Chicken Cage].

A few days before, he'd piloted the Thunder Falcon Boat around Huaiyin Square and Black Water Square nearby, bought four Spirit Pig piglets and ten Reed Chickens, and picked up some low-grade Spirit Fish—thirty in total.

Since the new [Fish Pond] was decently sized, he dumped them all straight into the lake.

But now, surveying the area, Ji Yuan found all four Spirit Pig piglets present and accounted for—but the ten Reed Chickens had dropped to nine.

Ji Yuan glanced at Tu Yue, who stood by, her gaze blank, as she pointed at the big-mouthed predatory toad poking its head out of the mist.
