"Ancestor Meng left you the White Head Sword?"
The moment the mysterious elder saw the sword in Su Pei's hand transform into a beam of light, his expression changed dramatically. Without a second thought for his pride, he frantically urged the crow beneath him to flee into the night sky.
However, the white beam of light didn't seem to pursue the elder. Instead, it traced a graceful arc through the sky and pierced straight through the blood-red bat.
BOOM!
The bat instantly exploded into a bloody mist.
Only then did the white light turn to chase the elder. Its speed was now more than ten times faster than before, almost like teleportation, as it appeared directly in front of the frantically fleeing man. The elder's reaction was both swift and bizarre.
THUD!
He suddenly dropped to one knee on the crow's back and shouted, "Sect Leader Su, spare my life! This old man will leave immediately and never trouble that young friend of yours again!"
The elegant White Head Sword advanced another inch, its tip coming to rest right at the elder's throat.
The elder spoke again in a panic, "Sect Leader Su, although Jiuyou Mountain Villa has been expelled from the Summit World, its power remains. As an elder of the villa, if I die, they will surely retaliate. It might cause a little... minor trouble for the Yu Xian Sect."
Su Pei's lovely face was calm as she asked, "Are you threatening me?"
"Not at all, not at all!" the elder said quickly. "This old man speaks from the bottom of his heart."
Su Pei's lips curved into a slight smile. "But it's useless to plead with me. That sword is not under my control."
Hearing this, a look of sudden realization dawned on Su Xuan's face. He had already noticed something odd. When the White Head Sword slew the bat and chased the elder, there hadn't been the slightest fluctuation in Su Pei's cultivation. It turned out the sword was acting on its own!
Has it already gained sentience?
"Ancestor Meng, I beg you, spare this lowly one!" the elder cried out, quickly turning his pleas to the White Head Sword. "I was indeed disrespectful just now, but I never imagined Your Majesty would be present! If I had known, I would have knelt in greeting long ago. This old man was blind not to recognize your esteemed presence. Please show... no, please show mercy with your blade!"
HUM!
The body of the White Head Sword trembled, emitting a low hum.
The next second, the sword pierced straight through the elder's shoulder, leaving a bloody hole.
Instead of tending to his grievous wound, the elder hurriedly blurted out, "Thank you, Ancestor Meng! Thank you!"
He then stuffed a pill into his mouth and, without a backward glance, rode the trembling crow away, disappearing into the night.
Su Pei turned her head toward Su Xuan. "It's over."
Su Xuan didn't bother with pleasantries, murmuring as if to himself, "He just left a sword behind, and it scared such a powerful expert out of his wits... Truly incredible."
Su Pei smiled gently. "Ancestor Meng had nine swords in total, known as the Primordial Nine Swords: Yellow Springs, Azure Decline, Red Dust, Purple Path, Green Silk, White Head, Shocking Thunder, Rain Snow, and Blazing Fire. The White Head Sword is just one of them."
"What about the other eight?" Su Xuan asked.
Su Pei, who rarely joked, smiled and replied, "That's a secret."
Su Xuan shrugged. "Alright, I won't ask."
His reply seemed directed as much at the White Head Sword as it was at Su Pei. After flying back through the air on its own, the sword had stopped directly in front of him, its tip pointed at his chest. But even after he spoke, the sword didn't leave. Instead, it shifted its point toward the Ruyi Staff in Su Xuan's hand, seeming to take a great interest in it.
Su Pei commented from the side, "She wants to befriend it."
Su Xuan's mouth twitched. He thrust the Ruyi Staff vertically into the ground and took two steps back.
The White Head Sword circled the Ruyi Staff a few times, then suddenly hovered above it before slashing down.
Afraid that Ancestor Meng's spirit sword might damage his Ruyi Staff, Su Xuan almost moved to intervene, but Su Pei shook her head at him.
BOOM!
The White Head Sword and the Ruyi Staff collided, igniting blinding sparks and unleashing a powerful shockwave. Even with his formidable cultivation, Su Xuan was involuntarily forced back another two steps. Su Pei's clothes fluttered in the blast.
But it wasn't over.
The White Head Sword continued to strike, slashing down again and again!
This isn't making friends, this is a brawl! Could it be that since both are extraordinary artifacts, they're jealous of each other? Su Xuan was dumbfounded.
After some time, the White Head Sword finally calmed down and hovered beside Su Pei, emanating an intense heat. When Su Xuan fixed his gaze on the Ruyi Staff again, an expression of unconcealable astonishment appeared on his face. The Ruyi Staff's form had changed. It had been astonishingly hewn by the White Head Sword into a thick, heavy-bladed longsword.
"What happened?" Su Xuan asked Su Pei, unable to tear his eyes away from the weapon.
"How would I know?" Su Pei pursed her lips. "Go ask the White Head Sword."
HUM.
The White Head Sword hummed once, as if in reply, though it felt more like it couldn't be bothered to explain.
Su Xuan stepped forward and lifted the heavy longsword, his emotions in a tangle. "Making friends is one thing, but turning my Ruyi Staff into a Ruyi Sword..."
Although neither Su Pei nor the sword gave him an answer, he began to speculate. The Ruyi Staff's true form might have been a sword all along, something he had just never known. The White Head Sword must have recognized it on sight and used its immense power to force its real form to manifest. He also guessed that even without the sword's help, the Ruyi Staff would have revealed its true form sooner or later—perhaps during a high-intensity battle, or when his cultivation reached a certain realm. In any case, this was a good thing.
The moment he gripped the Ruyi Sword, he could feel his combat power surging. It was now a great deal higher than before.
After a moment, Su Pei spoke up again. "Aren't you curious why someone tried to kill you?"
"What does that old man have to do with the sinkhole?" Su Xuan countered. "Why would an elder from Jiuyou Mountain Villa come after me for causing trouble in the Yu Xian Sect's sinkhole?"
"You're clever to ask me that." Su Pei gave him a deep look. "There are currently seven such sinkholes in the Summit World, and they are all interconnected. If you cause trouble in one, the other six will register a disturbance and add you to their retaliation list. Understand?"
"That old man and the monsters inside the sinkhole clearly have some shady dealings," Su Xuan said, his eyes narrowed.
"Why else would their sect have been expelled?" Su Pei retorted.
"Sigh," Su Xuan rubbed his forehead. "Had I known, I would've just grabbed the Blood Immortal Vine and run."
"You wouldn't have."
Su Pei looked up at the night sky and said slowly, "Master Su, if you care about the world below, you should finish your business here and leave as soon as possible."
"Of course," Su Xuan said, glancing in the direction of his home.
"Farewell."
Su Pei's figure suddenly drifted upward like a goddess ascending to the moon, soaring into the night sky to land on the back of the beautiful Fire Phoenix she had arrived on. The White Head Sword followed her like a shadow, creating a truly breathtaking sight.
Just as Su Pei was about to urge the Fire Phoenix to leave, she seemed to remember something and called down to Su Xuan:
"I'll give you another little gift..."
