Rotting Land: Survive

Chapter 210: Relying on Heaven for the Harvest (Part 1)

"Today's harvest operation was objectively a failure; we didn't complete the plan as intended."

As expected, the first words out of Tang Xiaoquan's mouth were like another heavy blow to the already burdened crowd.

"Moreover, considering the current psychological state of the zombie dog and the women, it's impossible for us to go out harvesting again in the short term. Therefore, we must devise a detailed plan for food supply and distribute accordingly."

Nodding instinctively, Lin Junfu had no objection to the young man's suggestion; indeed, the factory should implement a supply system according to a coordinated plan.

Continuing in the same aimless and careless manner as before would only make the factory's eventual fate predictable.

"Alright! Xiao Tang, I'll oversee this matter. Once the rice is threshed, we'll discuss it again!"

"Hmm!" With a simple response, Tang Xiaoquan was very pleased with Lin Junfu's attention. However, he didn't seem to want to end the topic. On the contrary, his expression grew more solemn: "Now that we've finished discussing the food issue, let's move on to the water problem."

Hearing this, everyone frowned. Clearly, they had just remembered that the factory's water and electricity had been cut off.

No wonder the young man seemed so 'on high alert'; undoubtedly, water was more important than food.

On this point, Lin Junfu was equally concerned.

After all, a person can survive a week without food but not drinking water for three days can be fatal, and the dehydration symptoms alone can make one wish for death.

Clasping his hands, Lin Junfu straightened up, his dark eyes staring firmly into the young man's.

At this moment, he was very much hoping the young man could propose feasible ideas to solve the 'hard-to-resolve water supply problem.'

As usual, Tang Xiaoquan's gaze swept over everyone, seemingly a habit of his. It's not to assert his authority but to ensure everyone takes his words seriously.

"I believe everyone has a rough idea about the current water stock in the factory. Our available water resources are barely enough for basic daily use, let alone baths. Plus, there are no nearby ponds for resupply. The only thing we can rely on now is the weather. It hasn't rained for some days, so barring any surprises, rain should come soon!"

Tang Xiaoquan's estimation wasn't a wild guess, after all, the factory was located on the Jianghuai border, an area prone to floods most years. Although it's unclear if the decrease in rainfall was due to divine intervention amidst the pandemic, objectively, drought isn't a concern here.

Being a local, Dazhuang timely affirmed Tang Xiaoquan's 'hypothesis': "That's right! What Xiao Tang says holds water; given the current weather, it should rain soon!"

With a smile, Tang Xiaoquan nodded at Dazhuang, pleased that this man had proactively joined the discussion.

He sensed that ever since Wang Qiang's "sacrifice" today, Dazhuang's attitude had clearly changed, at least no longer being as cold as before, with a touch more humanity in his words and actions.

After thanking Wei Dazhuang for his support, Tang Xiaoquan continued: "We may not know when the rain will come, but fortune favors the prepared. So there are some tasks we must do in advance."

At this point, Tang Xiaoquan turned to Zhao Yunhai and continued: "Uncle Zhao, we'll have to trouble you with extra effort on the ironing room modifications discussed yesterday. That's our primary means of collecting water. Whether rain collection succeeds depends on you."

Without a doubt, Tang Xiaoquan's words placed an invisible burden on Zhao Yunhai.

But you can't blame Tang Xiaoquan for being harsh; the ironing room's water tank is the largest storage container in the entire factory, crucial to everyone's survival.

Yet, Zhao Yunhai himself didn't seem burdened by Tang Xiaoquan's request. Without more words, he promptly shared the ideas he'd thought of the previous night with everyone.

And you have to admit, Zhao Yunhai, who is renowned as a professor of architecture, indeed has some skills when it comes to such refurbishments and constructions.

At least, after he finished speaking, everyone's previously uncertain minds gained some confidence.

Nonetheless, Tang Xiaoquan never likes putting all his eggs in one basket. It's not that he doubts Zhao Yunhai's abilities, but no one knows when the rain will come. The proposed plan from Zhao Yunhai might take a day to implement, so to ensure they can collect water immediately when it rains, Tang Xiaoquan added:

"Manager Lin, besides Zhao Shu's renovation, we should gather any items in the factory that can hold water; that way, we're not caught unprepared when the rain comes."

"Hmm!" With an appreciative glance, Lin Junfu grew increasingly fond of the young man in front of him.

Although the latter didn't provide a fundamental solution for water supply issues, he did offer a practical plan for welcoming incoming water resources.

Moreover, up until now, Lin Junfu had to manage all the myriad tasks himself, feeling like every step was on thin ice.

But now, after meeting this young man, he felt relieved for the first time.

Though this young man was merely in his early twenties, he had an undeniable talent and tenacity in planning and strategy that many adults struggled to achieve.

Lin Junfu finally revealed a rare smile because the young man had nearly arranged solutions for eating, drinking, and safety, among other issues. Just when Lin Junfu thought the discussion might end, the young man spoke again, calmly:

"The last point! The sudden events of today's operation had a significant psychological impact on the factory's women. I hope everyone avoids mentioning this matter in the future. Instead, we need to organize celebrations, large-scale ones at that, to boost morale and bring everyone together."

The survivors had no objections to this. They didn't have emotional ties with the factory's women, so whether the celebrations would affect them was not their concern.

At this point, Tang Xiaoquan really had nothing else to add, and right then, Aunt Zhao and Wei Yang seemed to enter the director's office, as if timed perfectly.
