Rotting Land: Survive

Chapter 243: Emergency Treatment (Part 3)

"Everyone, listen to me. Things have reached this point, and we should have confidence in Brother Hu. After all, everything takes a process, and since the surgery was just completed, it's reasonable that the effects aren't immediate. Moreover, as Lin said, the surgery itself went smoothly. So, I personally think that besides relying on Brother Hu's will to survive and fight the illness, it's more important for us to provide him with a good environment for rest and recovery."

Tang Xiaoquan's words eased the survivors' somewhat oppressive mood.

At the same time, his mention of a "good rest and recovery environment" caught everyone's attention.

Wang Qiang, without holding back, directly asked, "I say, Quan! What exactly do you mean? Can you make it clear?"

Seeing his brother's slightly annoyed anxious expression, Tang Xiaoquan understood and therefore didn't mind replying, "It's like this; I personally feel that tonight will be a crucial night for Brother Hu. If he can get through tonight, I believe he will recover. So, I suggest we all move to the second floor."

"To the second floor!" Wu Chao exclaimed almost as soon as Tang Xiaoquan finished speaking, "That... doesn't seem appropriate! Brother Hu is in no condition to be moved. I say it's better to let him stay peacefully on the first floor for recuperation!"

Wu Chao's objections resonated with others who all nodded in agreement.

Tang Xiaoquan was a bit surprised by this reaction, but he quickly analyzed the part that worried the others the most:

"You're right! Chao, you're right; Brother Hu is not suitable for being moved around right now. But it's precisely because of this that I suggested it."

As soon as these words were out, everyone was puzzled, each wearing a look of surprise.

Tang Xiaoquan paused for a few seconds before continuing, "The first floor is right under the zombies' noses. Even if we don't say whether they can break through the iron door, can any of you bear the loud noise of knocking and banging?"

His voice paused again as he scanned everyone intentionally, and clearly, no one could refute this question.

"And if we move to the second floor, not only will the noise problem be alleviated, but we can also set up two defensive lines in the narrow corridor. This way, even if the downstairs door is breached, we still have something to hold onto. We won't be surrounded by zombies!"

It must be said, Tang Xiaoquan's considerations were quite strategic, to the point that Lin Junfu nodded repeatedly as he listened.

However...

"Overall, the second floor is safer than the first, but Xiao Tang, don't forget that with Xiao Hu's current condition, it's not easy to get him upstairs without causing further harm!"

"Exactly! Lin's point is exactly what I meant!" Wu Chao immediately echoed after Lin Junfu finished speaking, and judging by his solemn expression, it was evident that he was extremely cautious about anything that could affect Hu Xiaodong's life and death.

Tang Xiaoquan maintained his unique composure. In fact, both Lin and Chao's concerns were ones he had already considered at the beginning of the proposal.

And the reason he dared to propose it in front of everyone now was that he had found a solution.

Nodding subconsciously, Tang Xiaoquan expressed his agreement with Wu Chao and Lin's points and immediately gave his answer: "You don't have to worry about moving because while gathering supplies earlier, Acheng and I found a portable folding bed. It was probably used by the staff here for naps. I opened it and saw that its main structure is made of steel pipes, so it's reasonably light. Additionally, each of the four corners has a handle, so we should be able to lift Brother Hu safely up to the second floor!"

Hearing this, Wu Chao finally felt relieved. He didn't need to personally verify the reliability of the folding bed Tang Xiaoquan mentioned, as the latter's meticulous planning had long earned his trust.

Since the plan was decided, it was time to implement it.

First, they moved the collected supplies to the second floor, then the group of survivors returned downstairs.

They selected the stronger individuals—Wang Qiang, Dazhuang, Lin Junfu, and Zhao Yunhai—as the main people to lift Hu Xiaodong upstairs.

The rest of the survivors took on the role of guards to prevent any unexpected incidents.

Seven people, one bed, plus the comatose Hu Xiaodong, the survivors slowly made their way to the second floor.

Fearing that jostling would harm Hu Xiaodong, Wang Qiang, Lin, Zhao, and the others walked very slowly, like turtles crawling.

However, no one complained; everyone tried to keep the folding bed as steady as possible.

It took the survivors over ten minutes to walk up just two flights of stairs, which showed their "painstaking efforts."

Upon reaching the second floor, everyone leaned against the entryway, resting for a while.

Seizing the break, Tang Xiaoquan quickly instructed, "Later, let's place Brother Hu in the middle room; it has better ventilation. Once done, we'll take turns cooling Brother Hu down. Also, someone needs to guard this entryway room, okay?"

Without a doubt, there were no objections to Tang Xiaoquan's proposal.

After a brief rest, everyone immediately took Hu Xiaodong to the designated room and opened the doors and windows to ensure air circulation.

Once everything was set, the group left Acheng in charge of taking care of Hu Xiaodong in the first shift. The others followed Tang Xiaoquan's instructions and began dividing tasks.

The first task was setting up two defensive lines, which was simple, merely stacking things at the corridor entrance.

The office furniture within the City Management Bureau was quite heavy, making it undoubtedly a physical challenge for the survivors during transportation.

Next was cooking, concerning everyone's hunger, which Old Zhao dared not be careless about.

But given the limited supplies, it was no easy task. Not to mention, opting to use a 'vessel' for cooking posed a headache.

Ultimately, Old Zhao reluctantly resorted to using a basin as a makeshift stove.

Time flew by quickly with the survivors' bustling activity, and the scorching sun unknowingly grew even hotter.
