Rotting Land: Survive

Chapter 258: Water Cannon (Part 1)

Tang Xiaoquan's idea was undeniably bold and extremely creative. The crowd, surprised after hearing it, couldn't help but harbor some doubts.

For instance, Wu Chao was the first to express his thoughts: "If the 'water cannon' method is feasible, why don't we use the water from the fire pool to stay here for a few more days? This way, if the zombies outside disperse more, wouldn't our chances of breaking through be higher?"

After listening, Tang Xiaoquan nodded indifferently. To be honest, he hadn't considered Wu Chao's suggestion. After all, it was just recently that he thought of using the fire hydrant.

Now, having been reminded by Wu Chao, Tang Xiaoquan realized that the latter's opinion made a lot of sense.

First, as Wu Chao said, the density of zombies outside is still too high. Although the power of the 'water cannon' is sufficient to scatter them, one 'water cannon' might inevitably have oversights, which occasionally might lead to an irreparable defeat.

Second, Hu Xiaodong and Zhao Huilong, these two injured, are also unstable factors that must be considered in the breakout process. No matter how strong the water cannon is, it can't change this point of concern.

Finally, Old Zhao just mentioned that whether the water cannon can work and for how long entirely depends on whether there's enough water in the fire pool. And this most important and critical point is currently unknown to us.

So, considering these three points, Tang Xiaoquan, who initially was ecstatic, began to reevaluate his 'flash of genius' moment.

After a moment, he turned his gaze to Zhao Yunhai and thoughtfully asked, "Uncle Zhao, what do you think of this? Is the water in the fire hydrant drinkable?"

Seemingly confident about this issue, Old Zhao almost immediately provided the answer: "Here's the thing, fire hydrants generally come in two types. One is the municipal fire hydrant by the roadside, which is usually connected to the tap water network, and the water inside is definitely drinkable. But the other, which Xiao Tang just mentioned, is the indoor fire hydrant. Many of these hydrants have independent storage pools, and whether the water inside is drinkable depends on when the water was last changed. After all, the storage pool doesn't circulate, and if not changed for a long time, various microorganisms and bacteria will inevitably grow. So my personal suggestion is, don't risk trying it!"

As usual, Tang Xiaoquan nodded indifferently and, after brief consideration, immediately agreed: "I agree with Uncle Zhao's opinion. Although we cannot determine the water quality of the storage pool, for safety's sake, let's avoid drinking it. Otherwise, if someone falls ill, our breakout situation will only worsen."

Yes, Wu Chao did not explicitly express his opinion, but the relieved expression on his face clearly showed that he likely had no objections.

With this, Tang Xiaoquan's idea about the 'water cannon breakout' passed unanimously, and with the notion of sooner rather than later, Lin Junfu promptly decided: "Since everyone has no objections, let's rest and prepare quickly, and we'll act in two hours!!"

Everyone agreed with Lin Junfu's urgent attitude. After all, whether we leave early or late, we still have to leave. Delaying a few hours won't change the fact that zombies are surrounding us.

On the contrary, it's better to breakout while our energy is still abundant, rather than wait until hunger and lack of water lead to exhaustion, leaving us in an awkward situation without the strength to escape.

After a brief deployment, the survivors immediately split up to take action.

In terms of weapons, Wang Qiang utilized existing resources to make four cardboard shields, and he also crafted a Snake Spear he excels in. As for the others, most found weapons they were comfortable with, so he didn't need to prepare anything extra.

As for supplies, these shouldn't technically be taken, but considering various factors in the breakout process, Tang Xiaoquan decided to take precautions as much as possible, especially packing drinking water and food.

Though these things were minimal to the point of being negligible, at critical moments, they could save lives.

Regarding the transport of the wounded, initially, survivors had some disagreements.

One side suggested using folding beds, while the other insisted on carrying.

Ultimately, survivors reached a compromise and unified their opinion: carry.

After all, compared to lifting, carrying would inevitably damage Hu Xiaodong's newly stitched wounds.

But overall, it minimizes his drag on the whole team during the escape.

We're aware that speed is the key word in this operation.

Any delay could cause everyone to be surrounded by zombies.

Two hours later, everyone gathered at the designated location, during which Tang Xiaoquan and Zhao Yunhai, Lin Junfu discussed and formulated a comprehensive action plan based on the latest developments.

After concisely explaining the plan to gathered companions, the group finally carried Hu Xiaodong down to the first floor.

Back on the first floor, everyone's hearts couldn't help but feel emotional, especially Wang Qiang, Wu Chao, and others, as the events of yesterday seemed to flash before their eyes once again.

Brother Hu's critical injury, the urgent iron gate, the predicament of internal and external issues instantly made Wang Qiang sweat.

Old Lin had no time to ponder like the others; he had more urgent matters to attend to.

As the only one in the team who had operated a fire hydrant before, the responsibility of setting up and using the fire hydrant naturally fell on his shoulders.

"Hey, Xiao Tang, help me check the usage instructions on the fire hydrant and read them to me!" To avoid mishandling and to save time, Lin Junfu pointed to the operation sticker inside the hydrant box and called out.

"Alright," Tang Xiaoquan replied without hesitation, accepted the task, and walked over to read: "First take out the hose, then extend it, after that..."

Following Tang Xiaoquan's instructions, Lin Junfu connected the hose to the hydrant, and then connected the other end to the water gun. Although his actions were somewhat clumsy, overall they were completed fairly well.

Standing up and wiping sweat from his forehead, Lin Junfu's expression became solemn.

Clearly, the hose assembly was complete, and next was the matter survivors were most concerned about: water testing.

After all, their plan painstakingly developed was entirely dependent on this fire hydrant.

So whether there's actually water in the hydrant and whether they can rely on it to successfully break through, let's wait and see...
