Caius found himself remembering how it had felt when he went from being a Vampire Spawn to a True Vampire. It had been a somewhat painful process as his muscles were strengthened and his bones grew denser.
The Evolution to the Fourth Circle was similar. Only five times more painful at the very least.
Caius pulled his face from Arlette's neck and took his hands off her body before the muscle spasms that gripped him caused him to tear into her flesh with his claws.
He leaned back, his face towards the ceiling, his mouth open and his fangs ever-glinting in their sharpness as veins bulged all over his head.
There were audible cracks as his bones seemed to splinter all over and mended to become stronger, denser than before. This was the worst part of the Evolution; Physical Enhancement.
You see, on the magical side of evolution, his blood had become more powerful, and thus informed his mana, which now teemed with the energy of the Fourth Circle. That was straightforward. That was easy.
The physical aspect was the issue.
Even in a magical world such as this, physical improvement didn't seem like it was supposed to happen all at once. It should be gradual.
For example; you exercise and your muscles and tissues experience wear and tear and then you rest, recover so your muscles and tissues can mend and become stronger. That's a thing in the normal world as well as in this magical world and it's why there's such a thing as over-exercising where the body breaks down and muscles are damaged almost beyond repair.
In a sense, this is why human/humanoid mages are never instantly thrust to the peak of their Circle's physical capabilities and instead placed at a starting point that doesn't put too much of a strain on their bodies and they can then proceed in gradual self-improvement.
'In a sense' is used here because things aren't that way for human/humanoids to help them. They are that way because that's the normal way and Vampirism is meant to break the norm.
As such, Vampiric Evolution unlike human/humanoid physical improvement is not gradual. Once a Vampire evolves to the next magic circle, he/she is instantly thrust up to the very peak of that circle.
The process—as Caius would attest to at the moment—is painful but it's also exhilarating. At least that was Caius's observation.
The pain was moving through his body and leaving improved physical and magical might in its stead. It was very welcome.
Being in his shifted form and so taken by the ongoing Evolution, Caius's feral nature surfaced, bringing with it a utilization of his heightened Vampiric senses.
Now at the Fourth Circle, his senses were even more enhanced. He could practically feel it as his hearing spread all over the entirety of Arlette's office and pushed against her walls to hear what was happening beyond it.
The only thing keeping his enhanced hearing contained was soundproofing enchantments all over the office. The same enchantments he and Arlette had to thank for being able to get as loud as they wanted without drawing attention to their illicit acts.
Still, despite the blocking, Caius could tell that the range of his hearing had improved by at least two times compared to before.
The same went for his sense of smell but that was also something the enchantments in Arlette's office kept sealed in. Still, he could occupy himself with how Arlette smelled. Her blood, yes, but most especially, her body. Her delicious, mouthwatering scent made him want to ravage her in ways not quite Vampire-like.
As for his vision, Caius had never seen so clearly. He was looking up at the ceiling and he felt like he could basically zoom in on the decorations and pick out tiny details. His brain's ability to grab up those details heartily showed that his sense of information trapping and recollection had also improved.
Caius lowered his face then, taking his Vampire Red eyes off the ceiling to look at Arlette's face instead. She was still in the throes of pleasure but Caius taking his fangs out of her had snapped her out of her climactic moment enough that she could look at him with concern.
But Caius didn't really focus on her expression. He got distracted quickly by her skin. Had it always been this flawless? You would think there was nothing more to observe and see from flesh he had touched and kissed so much but it was as though he were seeing her for the first time. Her beauty struck him anew.
His vision, at this point, was getting tinged with the Red of his feral nature but how could that take him over when he was having a moment of appreciation for this sexy lover of his?
"Are you alright?" Arlette asked him. She still had her hands in his hair but now rubbed at the roots in a soothing fashion.
Caius's mouth was open slightly, his fangs visible but he didn't speak. He just raised his hand and touched the tip of his fingers to Arlette's arm, instantly surprised by a thrilling charge that zapped and coursed through him from that contact. It wasn't painful, it was just… very stimulating. Almost over-stimulating even.
Caius realized then that just as his sense of sight, hearing, and smell had improved, so had his sense of touch. He noticed this first by the way Arlette's skin underneath his fingertips made him feel but he noticed it even more when her spasms caused her to wrap around his still-erect cock all too hard.
He barely managed to stifle a groan but there was a noticeable tremble all over his body and then he smiled. A dazzling smile that caused Arlette to hold her breath. And then he stroked his fingers across her skin.
"Alright?" He said to answer her earlier question, "No, I'm fantastic. And I have you to thank."
"Please don't," Arlette said with a smile and leaned her body into his touch which was causing her to shiver with delight. The shivering went unnoticed because she was already trembling and spasming from orgasmic throes but his touch felt better to her than ever before.
She had always known there was a quality to Caius that couldn't quite be described in a tangible sense. It was just there, like a metaphysical field—Aura if you will—that affected how he came across in amorous moments such as this.
That quality had improved and, in the hyper-aroused state she was currently in, the improvement of that quality highlighted Caius's evolution to Arlette more than anything else.
"You're at the Fourth Circle," she said.
"Yes," Caius told her with a smile. He could feel the pain in his body starting to wane as the Evolution was complete.
He raised the other hand that he wasn't using to touch Arlette's face and harnessed his Mana, amazed at how Fourth Circle Magical energy felt. Arcane Symbols and combinations he had made and not quite understood due to a limitation in his Magic circle now made a little more sense and were far easier to manipulate.
The journey was 5 years in the making (because it had actually been started by the original Caius before tragedy struck and stagnation set in) and it felt so… worth it.
"It feels… incredible…" Caius said slowly but he didn't even get to complete his sentence before Arlette was pulling his face toward herself to press their lips together.
His fangs pricked her but she didn't mind. She was starting to come down from her climactic high but the way Caius's touch made her feel was sending her right back on a journey to yet another peak while she rocked herself back and forth to get Caius's rod out of her by an inch only to get him right back in.
