Arcane Academy: The Divine Extraction Legacy

Chapter 1044: Demon Saints

With the deaths of numerous Shadow Immortals, the news spread quickly.

Messengers flew from the Northern Wastes to every corner of the Shadow Realm.

It didn't take long before the major city knew that the worst-case scenario had already started.

The Northern Barrier had fallen.

Hundreds of Demon Saints were marching south.

At least twelve Demon Gods had entered the realm.

Because of that, the Arcane Immortals had to gather all their Immortals, even most of the Half-Immortals, to fight against the swarm of Demonic Creatures.

Right now, no one cares about the resources they could get from hunting Demonic Creatures and Demon Saints; they were done with that already.

They had been fooled all along as the Demon Saints were just biding their time, waiting for their Demon Gods to recover their strength.

Still, because of the Arcane Immortals, the Demon Saints could no longer just rip the space and travel all around the continent.

With their abilities, they ensured that the Realm was stabilized and that the Demon Saints, or even those Demon gods, could not just open a rift whenever they wanted.

Nonetheless, with the large movement of Immortals, panic spread among the common people. Villages near the northern regions fled as quickly as possible, abandoning their homes.

Those large cities, on the other hand, reinforced their walls and gathered as many Shadow Immortals as they could.

Similar to what Shadowlord Kilo had done, other Arcane Immortals immediately convened.

Armies were conscripted. All Immortals, whether they wished to or not, were called to war.

Even the Luminis Hold had to move, even if they were far away from the main rift in the north.

This was no longer a matter of politics or territory.

If the Abyss continued to spread, the Shadow Realm itself would fall.

The next day, Vale found himself standing with Kaela and her group.

As an Earth Immortal, he didn't have a major role in this war.

There were plenty above him—Sky Immortals, High Immortals, and even the Arcane Immortals themselves.

His duty was simple: follow orders and survive.

For now, that meant staying close to Kaela, the daughter of Shadowlord Kilo.

This was probably for the best. Kaela wasn't assigned to the most dangerous battlefronts, though even her position was far from safe.

"We're assigned to a location where twelve Demon Saints were sighted," Kaela said calmly.

Vale frowned. "How many are we?"

"Twenty in total," Kaela replied without hesitation.

"Twelve Lesser Immortals, five Earth Immortals, including you, and three Sky Immortals."

Vale glanced at her two escorts. Both were Sky Immortals, quiet but definitely strong individuals. Together with Kaela, that made three.

'So Kaela's not a Lesser Immorta?' Vale mused.

It wasn't much against twelve Demon Saints.

But it was enough to stall them. At least, that was the hope.

Their destination was a volcano in the southern mountain range of the Northern Wastes. Scouts had reported that the Demon Saints were attempting to corrupt it, using its molten core as fuel to empower fire-type Demonic Creatures.

It was certainly a decent idea to ensure that their fire-type Demons would remain strong.

Perhaps, if they succeeded, an entire army of fire-element demons would be born and for sure, it would cause a lot of chaos.

They couldn't allow that.

"Ahem… There's a reward, right?" Vale asked.

"Of course… You can ask me for a favor if we succeed." Kaela replied.

Vale couldn't help but glance at her since this reward was too generous.

"Well, if it's too much, I can't grant it. So you have to think carefully… Or maybe, you can gather some favor points from me and you can request even something extraordinary." Kaela chuckled as she winked at Vale.

The latter could only shake his head as he wasn't sure if she was being serious or not.

In any case, the group departed in silence, flying across the skies with their control over the darkness…

As they got closer to the location of the volcano, they noticed that the land below was already scarred by corruption…

The forests had withered, rivers had turned black, and creatures became monstrous…

Although Shadow Immortals also had the power of Corruption, they weren't foolish enough to corrupt their own world and slowly destroy it.

They limit it to a few spells, curses, and others that might benefit them instead of destroying their homes.

At this time, Vale kept to the rear of the group, watching the others.

The Lesser Immortals were feeling a bit tense since most of them had just advanced and didn't have a lot of Immortal Spells.

The Earth Immortals, however, held more composure, but they knew this mission was dangerous.

As for Kaela and her bodyguards, they seemed calm as ever.

Vale couldn't decide if it was confidence or recklessness.

After half a day of travel, the volcano finally came into view.

They could see that its peak was split open, spewing thick black smoke into the air.

There were even rivers of molten rock that flowed down its sides…

But more than the volcano itself, what caught everyone's attention were the figures waiting around it.

A dozen silhouettes stood near the base of the volcano… The Demon Saints.

They were guarding the Fire-type Demonic Creatures, who were gathering the energy coming from the heat of the Volcano…

Once these Demonic Creatures were sent to the towns and cities, they would surely cause massive damage, and they couldn't just let all of that happen.

'Demon Saints… They're stronger than the ones I defeated before. What a terrifying bunch…'

Even from a distance, Vale could feel the pressure rolling off them. It was suffocating!

"They've already started," one of the Sky Immortals muttered as he felt the presence of thousands of Demonic Creatures bathing inside the volcano...

Furthermore, he realized that the Demon Saints weren't just guarding the Demonic Creatures, they were channeling energy into the volcano and turning it into a corrupted fire source, hastening the development of the Demonic Creatures!

Kaela raised her hand, signaling the group to halt.

"We'll engage here. Our goal is not to destroy them, but to disrupt their ritual. If they succeed, this volcano will become a gateway for fire-element demons. That cannot happen."

The Lesser Immortals exchanged determined looks as they realized that, at most, they would only be fighting the Demonic Creatures and not the Demon Saints!

If that was the case, there was nothing to be afraid of… or so they thought.
