The two Chaos Immortals sent to investigate the deaths in Belial and Drelmar Cities were not ordinary officials.
They were special investigators, specialists in rooting out spies and infiltrators.
The two investigators were Immortal Seo and Immortal Aven, veterans of the Chaos Immortals' western campaign.
Unlike the other arrogant officers who ruled cities with brute force, Seo and Aven were special authorities.
Their names carried weight across the western lands ruled by Chaos Immortals. They were specially feared by those who had tried to resist Chaos' rule.
Seo preferred autopsies and dissection of captured enemies, studying their techniques before erasing them. He had personally exposed dozens of Holy Arts zealots who tried to sanctify Chaos territory.
Aven was considered ruthless and cunning. He enjoyed breaking Transformation Arts practitioners who disguised themselves as insects or vermin, dragging them into the open before crushing them. He had also burned out several Elemental Arts saboteurs who attempted to disrupt resource shipments.
Together, they had built a reputation as the "Eyes of Chaos"… They were investigators who could sniff out betrayal and silence it before it spread.
Indeed, over the past few months, they had eliminated dozens of agents from other Arcane Factions.
Holy Arts zealots who tried to sanctify their cities had been exposed and executed. Elemental Arts practitioners who attempted to sabotage supply lines were hunted down and burned alive. All the Transformation Arts experts, who could shrink themselves into insects to sneak past defenses, had been discovered and crushed under their watch.
If there was a spy, they would find them. If there was a traitor, they would erase them.
Now, they were tasked with investigating the mysterious deaths of Rhaziel in Belial City and Kharon and Velthar in Drelmar City.
They examined the bodies carefully, their Divinity started probing for traces of battle. Yet there were no wounds, no signs of external damage. The corpses stood like statues, their eyes were lifeless, and their Divinity was extinguished from within.
The investigators performed a deeper autopsy, peeling back the layers of the mind. That was when they noticed it… Lingering Arcane Energy clinging to the remnants of the brain. It was subtle, refined, and unlike anything they had encountered before.
"This isn't Chaos Energy," one muttered. "It's… Psychic."
The other frowned. "Psychic Arts? Impossible. Those weaklings can't pierce an Immortal's mind. Unless…"
They exchanged glances. "Unless it was cast by another Immortal. Not a mere Psychic Arcanist, but someone who has mastered the path. But… Is there even someone like that in this realm? Our information is too limited."
The first investigator considered the Order of the Oracle Hivemind, a faction's secret order filled with Psychic Arts Practitioner.
"Could it be them? Their hive-linked minds are strong, but even they shouldn't be able to erase an Immortal's will so cleanly."
The second shook his head. "No. This is different. Whoever did this could also be using an Arcana and wanted to throw as off. And if they can kill three Immortals without leaving a trace, then they are dangerous."
For a moment, silence hung between them. Then, they considered the things left behind by these three and greed crept in.
"Dangerous or not," the first said, smirking, "Rhaziel, Kharon, and Velthar are gone. Their tributes, their wealth, their resources… all without an owner."
The second chuckled darkly. "You're right. Why waste time chasing a hiding criminal when we can claim their spoils? The mortals will still pay tribute. The administrators will still deliver shipments. And now, they will deliver them to us."
Just like that, the two of them divided the territories between themselves, ensuring that the flow of ore, spirit stones, food supplies, and arcane reagents would be redirected into their coffers.
"We'll grow richer than ever…" Seo's eyes were gleaming. "The others will think we're simply stabilizing the chaos. But in truth, we'll be feeding on the wealth of three fallen Immortals."
Then, Aven nodded. "Let the mysterious assassin keep killing. As long as we survive, we'll inherit everything they leave behind."
Their greed was disgusting. What began as an investigation into mysterious deaths had turned into an opportunity for profit. They no longer cared who was hunting the Chaos Immortals. All that mattered was that the tributes now flowed to them.
And in their arrogance, they did not realize that they had already been marked by the very assassin they feared.

Vale sat in silence within his rented room as he considered when to strike down Seo and Aven that night.
Yet suddenly, a knock came at the door of the inn.
Vale was confused as he realized that the one outside wasn't normal…
'Impossible. No one should know I'm here.'
But as he extended his senses, he finally recognized the aura beyond the door. It was from someone familiar…
Vale then opened the door.
Standing there was a man dressed in the simple robes of a traveling Arcanist. His presence seemed ordinary at first glance, but the aura beneath the disguise was unmistakable…
It was the Golden Immortal Adam.
Vale's expression remained calm, though inwardly he was surprised.
Of course, Adam was not clad in his famed golden armor now. Like Vale, he had chosen to move in disguise, blending into the crowd.
The two did not truly know each other, but they shared one thing in common… Both were enemies of the Chaos Immortals.
Vale studied him carefully. 'Why would he come here? Why would he seek me out?'
He seriously had no idea… He could only guess that this guy realized he was the one killing Chaos Immortals and perhaps, he wanted to join the fun…
Adam bowed slightly as he greeted Shane.
"I apologize for intruding. I know you prefer to remain unseen. But I need your help."
Vale raised an eyebrow. "Help?"
Adam stepped inside, closing the door behind him.
Soon, he revealed his concern…
"There is a Celestial Spell Model I didn't want anymore…"
"Oh?" Vale couldn't help but feel curious about this…
The removal of a Spell Model was no trivial matter. This was especially more dangerous if it was a Celestial one!
