Arcane Academy: The Divine Extraction Legacy

Chapter 1180: Spirit Energy

The hall fell into a brief silence after Professor Halvar announced the three spells… Mystic Hands, Spirit Whisper, and Arcane Shield.

Then, murmurs began to ripple through the rows of students.

"Mystic Hands? Isn't that too simple?" one boy muttered, his tone filled with disbelief.

"I heard it's too basic… The spell model isn't even difficult to obtain," another added while shaking his head.

Aside from Spirit Whisper, he believed that he could purchase the Spell Models of the Mystic Hands and Arcane Shield… Everything here was expecting rare foundational spells that could only be obtained here.

"Why would the Academy choose that? I thought we'd be learning something more impressive… like Traceless Seal or Spirit Prison…" a girl whispered to her friend, her voice tinged with disappointment.

Several students exchanged doubtful glances. They had come from faraway kingdoms and clans, expecting to be taught powerful techniques worthy of prodigies. Instead, they were being asked to master spells that sounded like mere tricks compared to what they'd read through various books...

One student scoffed quietly, "Spirit Whisper? That's just sending a thought to someone nearby. My village elders taught that to apprentices before they even turned twelve. It shouldn't be very special"

Another student also felt curious... There must be a reason why the Academy chose those three. Probably, it would be a great combination of spells for the other spells they needed to learn.

Still, the student couldn't help but feel curious about this.

"Arcane Shield? That's just a weak barrier. It won't stop a proper attack. Why not teach us something stronger?"

The complaints grew louder, though still hushed enough not to be outright disrespectful.

Cassian frowned, listening to the voices around him. He could feel the disappointment in the air, but he also noticed Professor Halvar's calm expression.

The man didn't seem bothered at all by their doubts.

Selene, seated beside him, got closer and whispered, "They're missing the point. I think these spells aren't about being power. They're about control... It's actually tackling various types of Mystic Arts."

Cassian glanced at her, curious. Selene's talent was impressive as always... Her ability to see through people, spells, and even formation circles was always incredible.

"Think about it…" she continued softly.

"Mystic Hands teaches meticulous control. Spirit Whisper teaches focus. Arcane Shield teaches stability. They're simple, but they're indeed a better foundation for beginners. Though still not the best for me."

"That's a good explanation I guess. Without them, the advanced spells would be harder to learn." Cassian muttered.

Although he didn't think too much of it, Selene's explanation certainly made sense.

Still, he couldn't help but feel the sting of disappointment himself. After all, the spells of the Church were already quite boring ones… So, he really wanted some flashy spells…

Instead, he was being asked to conjure invisible hands and faint shields.

At this point, the Professor couldn't help but chuckle.

"You don't like it?" He asked with a laugh.

Seeing that he wasn't mad at their reaction, they immediately felt better…

"We… we're just confused… Is this really what prodigies from across the world came here for?"

"We heard how great the Academy is, but it's quite puzzling, Professor…"

"Or maybe you're testing us. Making sure we can handle the basics before giving us the real spells?"

Professor Halvar nodded and finally raised his hand again, silencing the hall. His smile remained, calm and knowing.

"I hear your doubts," he said.

"And I understand them. But remember this… even the greatest towers are built on simple stones. If you cannot master these three, you will never master the higher mysteries of the Mystic Path. Do not underestimate simplicity. It is the hardest lesson to learn."

The students quieted, though the unease lingered.

Some still looked unconvinced, while the others looked thoughtful.

Cassian and Selene exchanged a glance as they believed that the Academy really planned to give them something amazing for their next spells…

For now, however, it wasn't really Professor Halver's part to teach them about the three spells.

But all the students in the class wanted to know more about the spells.

"Professor! We still have forty-five minutes left… That's plenty of time… Please let us know more about it."

"Yes, Professor Halvar… It's still early. Is there something different about the Spell Models of those three?"

"Maybe they're modified by someone? Maybe Immortal Vale modified the Models?"

"Ahh! Is that possible?!"

The student's eyes lit up… Even if it wasn't Vale himself who modified it, it would be amazing if any Immortals had decided to alter these common Models.

However, there was no way the Professor would reveal something that important so easily.

Still, he decided to fulfil their curiosity about the three foundational Spells.

Soon, Professor Halvar turned to the board and wrote more about the three spells.

[ 1. Mystic Hands

A basic spell that creates an invisible hand of spirit energy.

It can push, pull, or lift small objects within a short distance.

Useful for training control and accuracy.

Slightly helps with the development of Spirit Strands. ]

[ 2. Spirit Whisper

A spell that lets you send a faint thought or message to someone nearby.

The range is short, and the message must be simple, but it teaches students how to direct spirit energy toward communication.

Slightly helps with the Magic Zone duration and range. ]

[ 3. Arcane Shield

A beginner's defensive spell that creates a faint shimmer of spirit energy around the caster.

It doesn't block strong attacks, but it can soften blows or resist minor disruptions.

More importantly, it teaches how to stabilize their soul under pressure. ]

As soon as they saw this, everyone turned serious…

As expected, they had indeed modified these Spell Models.

They didn't expect that Mystic Hands could help develop Spirit Strands, which was the most important thing if they wanted to record high-level Spells in their Spell Lights.

The Spirit Whisper, on the other hand, was even more amazing! After all, their Mystic State, where they enter their Magic Zone for a certain duration, was difficult to improve. The fact that it could increase their duration and even the range of their spells… they couldn't help but shut their mouths!

Lastly, they checked the Arcane Shield… They had no idea that it could also help them with Soul Pressure!

This was incredible!

They all looked at the professor, unsure whether he was serious or not.

"Awesome spells…"

Cassian muttered as he swiftly wrote it on his notes. He was definitely fascinated.

"Alright… That's it…"

Professor Halvar let the board fade, the notes about the Mystic Hands, Spirit Whisper, and Arcane Shield dissolved into motes of light.

"Now then…" he said, his tone shifting back to seriousness, "that is enough about spells. Remember, those are not my subject. My class is Elementary Spirit Law. If you cannot cultivate your Spirit Energy properly, no spell… no matter how rare or powerful, will ever be recorded in your Spell Lights."

The students straightened, realizing the true weight of his words.

Halvar raised a crystal sphere, its surface etched with faint runes.

"Remember the Spirit Strands that you had today… I will ensure that you all improve within a month…"

He then paused for a moment and looked at the hopeful eyes of his students.

"Spirit Energy flows differently from Arcane Energy. Arcane Energy is the energy from your path… It can be sharp, aggressive, and easily molded into spells. Spirit Energy, however, is different… It nourishes your body… harmonizes with spell models, and helps you control these Spells. To cultivate it, you must learn patience."

He gestured, and the crystal pulsed faintly.

"Your Spirit Strand is not just strength of your Spirit… It is also the thread that connects your soul to the world. The more strands you can have, the stronger your foundation is… For now, I will teach you a bit how to sense and strengthen those strands."

The students leaned forward, curiosity replacing their earlier disappointment.

"Close your eyes," Halvar instructed. "Breathe deeply. Do not chase the energy. Let it flow. Spirit Energy is like water… if you grasp too tightly, it slips away. If you open your hand, it fills you."

Cassian obeyed, closing his eyes.

At first, he felt nothing but the rhythm of his heartbeat.

However, Halvar activated the Arcane Circle of the room, amplifying the Spirit Energy within the room…

Then, faintly, everyone sensed it… a warmth flowing through their chest, branching outward like threads of light. They were confused as they tried to hold onto it, but the energy scattered.

Selene, beside him, was calm… She also felt the energy immediately... Soon, her eyes opened, and she exhaled softly, already understanding the exercise.

Halvar walked among them…

"Do not be discouraged if you fail to retain this energy. Spirit Energy is stubborn. It will resist you until you grasp its essence… Cultivation is not about force, it is about harmony within your body."

Some students groaned in frustration...

Halvar shook his head. "No. Relax. The harder you push, the further it slips. Remember this law... Spirit Energy flows where the soul is calm."

As he said this, the bell rang and the class finally ended.
