I Contracted All Ancient Divine Artifacts

Chapter 38: Fengbai Village

"Warrior, you are a true warrior! You actually killed the Calamity Beast with just one punch!"

The old man stepped forward to carefully confirm, and after seeing that the Calamity Beast was indeed killed by Han Zhan with one punch, he couldn't help but exclaim.

"My last name is Feng, Feng Linluan. You can also call me Feng Bo. Warrior, what's your name?"

"My name is Han Zhan."

"Han Zhan." Feng Linluan repeated, "That's quite a rare name. You must be from somewhere else, right?"

Han Zhan remained silent and just nodded.

Feng Linluan continued, "That makes sense. Normal people wouldn't idly run up the mountain; that's just seeking death, isn't it?"

As Feng Linluan said this, Han Zhan couldn't help but take another look at him.

After finishing their conversation, the two of them walked over to the dead monster.

The old man seemed very excited. He started to pick up a machete, sharpening it with a stance like he was about to slaughter pigs and sheep.

"Feng Bo, what are you planning to do?"

"It's already dead, of course we're taking it back to eat. There's so much meat on this Calamity Beast, wouldn't it be a waste not to take it back?" Feng Linluan said as he began to dissect the Calamity Beast's body.

Though he held a machete, he used it far beyond its intended purpose.

Skinning, removing entrails, and dividing the leg meat—all done in one go with just a machete.

"Feng Bo, does this Calamity Beast have its own name? Do you just call it Calamity Beast?"

"Of course not, Calamity Beast is just a generic term for those mountain monsters. You don't even know that?" Feng Linluan looked at Han Zhan with some confusion.

"I've been wandering in these vast mountains for days, and it seems I encountered some danger. Now my head hurts and I've lost some memories."

Considering what Feng Linluan just said, people who go into the mountains are not normal, so there must be unimaginable horrors in the mountains. That's why Han Zhan concocted this reason.

His explanation, as expected, was thoroughly believed by Feng Linluan.

While distributing the meat, Feng Linluan continued talking to Han Zhan: "Let me tell you more about these things to help you recall your lost memories. It's such a pity for a warrior like you to live the rest of your life in a daze."

"We all live in villages that are fixed in various places, separated by mountains or seas."

"The village we live in is called Fengbai Village. You should be from the village on the other side of the mountain, but I don't know what village that is, because the mountain has powerful Calamity Beasts, and villages can't communicate normally."

"The so-called Calamity Beasts are the collective name for the mountain monsters, they are a menace to the mountains, each one terrifyingly extraordinary. Fighting them, humans have little chance of winning, and those who can defeat them are all warriors like you!"

Han Zhan was listening intently when suddenly, Feng Linluan stopped.

"That's it."

"That's it?"

"Yeah, what do you expect from an old man over seventy?"

Upon hearing this, Han Zhan fell silent.

Feng Linluan beckoned to Han Zhan and said, "Warrior, come quickly and help me carry this meat back. Once we reach the village, we can feast."

He painstakingly disassembled the Calamity Beast meat into slabs and then skewered them with large branches.

Han Zhan did not refuse and picked up the Calamity Beast meat as instructed, following behind Feng Linluan as they headed down the mountain.

Only after they started walking did he realize that the foot of the mountain wasn't far at all.

If it weren't for the strange white mist, Han Zhan should have reached the foot of the mountain over an hour ago.

On this journey, they encountered no further danger, and when Han Zhan and Feng Linluan exited the forest, the view opened up before them.

The vast plain stretched out endlessly, the grass fertile and lush, and in the distance, a small black dot which should be Fengbai Village, as Feng Linluan mentioned.

...

Inside Fengbai Village.

Two children, about five or six years old, were playing and chasing each other.

One suddenly shouted, "Feng Hao, I saw your grandpa go up the mountain before dawn today! That's great! Tomorrow I can come to your house for a feast, I want to sit at the same table with you!"

In Fengbai Village, not going up the mountain is a rule passed down through generations.

In their understanding, going up the mountain equates to the entire village having a feast, as no one ever returns alive from the mountain.

Hearing his playmate's words, Feng Hao was stunned for a moment, and he quickly shook his head, refusing: "No way, you eat too much. I don't want to sit with you; we should sit separately, so everyone can eat more."

Feng Hao earnestly suggested.

"You're right." His companion readily agreed.

Just as the two happily began to imagine what dishes would be on the feast table tomorrow, two figures in the distance gradually became clearer.

Feng Hao's friend stared wide-eyed at the approaching figures, his face full of disappointment.

"Well, it seems like there won't be a feast after all."

Upon hearing this, Feng Hao subconsciously turned around and saw Feng Linluan standing behind him with a sullen face. He must have heard their conversation.

"Feng Hao, grandpa brought you something good. Guess what it is?" Feng Linluan said with a smile.

While speaking, he picked up a large wooden stick that was about as thick as an arm from behind...

Truly a scene of grandfatherly affection.

Han Zhan watched this scene unfold and silently carried the Calamity Beast meat back to the village entrance.

As soon as he reached the village edge, he felt the gaze of everyone around him.

The reason was obvious.

He was carrying large chunks of meat, which fully captured everyone's attention.

Fengbai Village was not without livestock like pigs, cattle, and sheep.

But eating meat was somewhat of a luxury for them.

Aside from some large sacrificial events or important days, they ordinarily ate very little.

Seeing Han Zhan carrying so much meat, the Fengbai Village People stared without blinking.

"Young man, what kind of meat are you carrying on your back? Is it pork? Where did you get it?" someone curiously asked.

"It's Calamity Beast Meat," Han Zhan corrected.

"Oh, come on! This can't be Calamity Beast Meat! You're not seriously saying you just came down the mountain?" The speaker clearly didn't believe him.

The terror of the Calamity Beasts and the rule not to go up the mountain were deeply ingrained in their minds.

At this moment, Feng Linluan appeared beside Han Zhan to back him up: "He's not lying. This is indeed Calamity Beast Meat. I personally saw him kill the Calamity Beast with one punch!"

Feng Linluan's words only made the others laugh even louder.

"So he was up the mountain with you? Hahaha!"

"Feng Linluan, you're not young anymore. Can't you stop saying such fantastical things?"

"You both went up the mountain and came back alive? I find that hard to believe."

The air was filled with cheerful laughter.

Feng Linluan snorted.

Suddenly, from behind him, a round object rolled out.

It was a head that was neither beast nor human.

For a moment, the entire Fengbai Village was silent.
