The Right Wing Guard 'Qian Kai' of the Yellow Dragon Army received the military command from Commander Qi Biao and led over ten soldiers to search the surrounding villages overnight.
Riding a formidable horse and wearing silver armor, Qian Kai turned and said, "If you see a village, do not kill recklessly. You must use words to deceive them, get them to bring money and provisions, and follow us to the military camp."
A soldier under him laughed and said, "Han Wing Guard, we all understand. If we kill them all, so many corpses would tire us out, moving them back and forth."
Another said, "Yes, when the corpses rot and grow worms, they won't taste fresh. We should make them jump into the pot themselves when we get hungry."
"That's right, that's right, my cultivation has not been in vain."
Han Kai nodded in satisfaction, spurring his horse to gallop swiftly, smiling as he said, "These lowly people, if they end up in our bellies, it would be a blessing from their ancestors. When we achieve great success, they might be considered as contributing to the dragon's rise."
Many soldiers laughed heartily.
The night was pitch black, and there were many villages around Qingning County. It didn't take long before they discovered a village.
By this time, it was late, and every household had turned off the lights and shut their doors, eerily quiet.
Han Kai held the reins, slowed down, and shouted loudly, "People inside, listen up, the Yellow Dragon Army is here to lead you to good days!"
"Wake up, wake up," the soldier leader shouted, "We have good news for you. Anyone slow will miss out."
After shouting for a long time without hearing any response, Han Kai felt something was wrong, jumped off his horse, and kicked open a large door.
Inside was empty...
Not even a single rat.
"Damn it!" Han Kai was furious, kicking open doors one by one. The entire village had disappeared without a grain left.
"Lowly people, lowly people, lowly people!"
Han Kai was left with nothing, neither obtaining any provisions nor showing off his power. A soldier leader asked, "Han Wing Guard, what should we do now?"
Han Kai was annoyed, without any plan in mind. Being asked this question made his frustration worse, and he kicked out.
"What else can we do, keep searching other villages! I don't believe it, they are despicable to the extreme!"
Thus, they continued along the road searching villages. Each village encountered was searched, but they always came up empty.
They searched three villages overnight and gained nothing, not even a shadow of a person.
The next morning, Han Kai, deeply helpless, returned to report to the army. Qi Biao was waiting outside the military tent, with soldiers already starving and the food supply running low, only waiting for Han Kai to bring back some meat.
But Han Kai returned with a pale face, empty-handed.
Thus, Qi Biao was utterly furious. He immediately issued a death command, ordering Han Kai to search again, and if he failed to find meat and provisions, he would be punished by military law, executed by beating to death.
Han Kai's face changed, and he could only continue searching with determination.
But in the surrounding villages, dozens of miles around, he had already been to all of them, and there were no people. What else could he do?
"These villagers are truly cunning, where have they hidden?!" Han Kai rushed anxiously, both hungry and fearful.
Seeing no one in the villages, he recklessly rushed into the mountains to find people. By normal reasoning, he was already crazy.
He held no hope. But as he walked into a forest, he suddenly saw a rabbit darting out.
He spurred his horse to chase, just about to catch the plump rabbit, but a dense bush obstructed his path, and the rabbit leapt away and vanished.
"Even the trees are against me."
"Is it true that heaven wants to destroy me?"
"Wait, these trees seem denser than elsewhere."
Han Kai sat down suddenly.
He was taken aback.
Carefully observing, he noticed dense vegetation around him, but the soil showed signs of having been disturbed. Even with careful concealment, the trace of people regularly traveling through was still preserved.
"Well, well, a group of lowly people, they are hiding here!" Han Kai's eyes lit up, abandoning his horse, he pushed through the bushes and walked several more miles.
Before him, the road suddenly opened up.
"Han Wing Guard! We don't have to die!" the soldier leader said excitedly.
"Indeed, these lowly people are cunning, but trying to deceive Han Kai is beyond their capability." Han Kai laughed loudly.
As he walked with firm steps.
Suddenly a large net fell from the sky, directly covering the group.
Han Kai's skills were extraordinary; despite being caught off guard, he rolled and dodged, narrowly escaping.
At this moment, several Nursing Home people rushed out from the side, swiftly attacking with knives, spears, sticks, and clubs. Though the accompanying soldiers had learned martial arts, they were not as skilled as the Nursing Home.
They were quickly killed.
It was Han Kai who was close to Qi Biao, indeed possessing strong skills. He realized things were bad, and regretting his carelessness, sought to escape and call for reinforcements.
After the Nursing Home people slew the accompanying soldiers, they certainly wouldn't let him escape. They immediately surrounded him again.
Han Kai maneuvered with them, fighting while retreating. Though at a disadvantage, he had hope for escape.
Han Kai originally thought this place had only crafty villagers, but didn't expect so many skilled people.
"I am the Right Wing Guard of the Yellow Dragon Army, daring to ambush me, are you all seeking death?" Han Kai shouted angrily.
Wearing silver armor, supported by the armor, his combat power was remarkable.
Though outnumbered, he should have been defeated long ago. But the armor protected him from lethal wounds. This allowed him to maintain a stalemate, with signs of retreat.
"You are not enough to take down Han Kai!" Han Kai, experienced in warfare, had his killing intent aroused, genuinely intimidating the Nursing Home people.
He stomped heavily, the ground trembled, Inner Qi surged into his chest, and he shouted.
This was the "Yellow Dragon Roar," a martial art used for intimidation before battle.
He was about to escape.
An arrow shot forth, piercing his knee, pinning him to the ground. Han Kai cried out in pain, and the nearby guards rushed over.
"This man is from the Right Wing Guard, let him live."
Li Xian's voice rang out.
The guards immediately stopped and stepped back.
Han Kai gasped for breath and looked at the young man approaching him. Even though he was severely injured and could not think much, his mind still froze for a moment.
He thought to himself, what a remarkable young man. His demeanor was imposing, with vermilion dots adorning his brows.
"Attacking from the shadows, what kind of hero does that make you?" Han Kai cursed.
Li Xian replied indifferently, "I have never claimed to be a hero." His question was direct: "How many men do you have left in the Yellow Dragon Army, where are you stationed now, and who is your general?"
"Ptooey!" Han Kai spat out a mouthful of blood.
Li Xian, without wasting words, struck with his palm from a distance, the force hitting Han Kai's other leg. He said, "I will give you only three chances. If you refuse to speak, I will kill you."
"How many men does your Yellow Dragon Army have left, and how long do you plan to stay?"
Han Kai had been humiliating others since he joined the military. Now, being humiliated, he was extremely furious.
He bit his teeth, wanting to resist, but upon meeting Li Xian's eyes, he felt intimidated. Thinking it over, he realized:
"This boy is ruthless; if I don't speak, he will surely kill me. I will reveal the truth to save my life. They don't have enough people. Even if they know these details, what can they do to my Yellow Dragon Army? When General Qi arrives with reinforcements, I'll take my revenge!"
To save his life, he immediately revealed the situation of the Yellow Dragon Army.
The Yellow Dragon Army had 24,000 troops left, but the army supplies were depleted. It seemed they couldn't hold out for a day anymore, so they were desperately raiding villages for supplies.
Li Xian, hearing this, felt a bit pleased: "It seems I've hidden well, the Yellow Dragon Army hasn't discovered our whereabouts. This Right Wing Guard's presence here is sheer luck. Nevertheless, I must not relax."
With this thought, he swung his palm and killed Han Kai.
Han Kai's eyes widened, utterly confused by the turn of events. His eyes glared at Li Xian in death. To tell or not, it made no difference since the Yellow Dragon Army was doomed here. His ultimate end was to die.
...
Li Xian ordered the guards to continue guarding crucial paths and setting traps.
He then set out from the manor again, moving lightly.
"The Right Wing Guard said the Yellow Dragon Army is stationed in the dense forests south of Qingning County. I'll scout it from a distance."
Li Xian, as agile as a ghost, moved through the forest. He chose a distant hill to observe. The Yellow Dragon Army had set up camp, buried iron pots; their large numbers made them easy to spot.
Li Xian smiled slightly; the situation was stable now. The manor just needed to remain hidden for two more days, and without supplies, the Yellow Dragon Army would fall into disarray.
"All I need to do is quietly observe from here."
With a flash of his blade, Li Xian cut some twigs and shrubs and covered himself to better conceal his figure, observing the distance keenly.
With his astonishing eyesight, he could see the slight movements within the army. He could even spot the main tent of the commanders.
"That must be the commander of the Yellow Dragon Army. A fierce appearance indeed, but even he looks anxious now."
Li Xian observed the camp where Qi Biao occasionally emerged. In the area where they buried the cooking pots, they burned wood and boiled water, cooking some coarse rice. But the soldiers couldn't eat their fill.
The mood in the army was agitated.
"This rebel force is like a fleeting wind. Even if they don't fall here, they won't last long. Were I him, after capturing Xiangle City, I would have focused on consolidating power and winning the people's hearts. How could they end up in such a supply crisis?"
"In the end, this rebellion will either be crushed by the court or disperse into banditry, posing a threat to all sides."
Li Xian continued to observe in secret.
Before he knew it, night fell. The night was quiet, amplifying sounds. He could vaguely hear unrest brewing in the army, dissatisfaction simmering.
The failure of the Yellow Dragon Army was all too predictable.
Li Xian felt slightly relieved.
Just then, he noticed a black dot in the distance. It was a figure moving swiftly, wearing black robes that obscured his face.
"This direction… coming from Qingning County." Li Xian enhanced his vision with his heavy pupils. The figure's light, agile movements seemed familiar.
"This movement style seems familiar; there are many experts in Qingning County. Some Martial Arts Hall Masters, Gang Leaders… with their Qi Circulation and Blood Solidification and Aperture Closure skills. Digging deeper, there are probably quite a few in the Food Essence Realm."
"Such swift movements are very similar to that of 'Wang Bao.' But even faster; it must be that Leopard Saber Xu Liefeng."
"This person coming secretly must harbor ill intentions!"
Li Xian's heart sank. Just as the Yellow Dragon Army was about to collapse, yet another complication appeared.
He observed carefully, wanting to see what tricks Xu Liefeng was up to.
...
...
Xu Liefeng traveled by night, climbing over the city wall, heading straight for the Yellow Dragon Army.
He walked boldly through the main gate.
"Halt!" The guard shouted, "Who are you, sneaking around?"
Xu Liefeng arrogantly said, "I've come to see your general. Hurry and deliver the message; if you delay important matters, you won't be able to bear the consequences."
"Where did this night prowler come from, with such big words? Seize him!" The guard, seeing Xu Liefeng dressed in black, was even more discourteous, calling others to surround him.
Xu Liefeng snorted coldly, flicking his sleeve.
The weapons of the soldiers instantly broke.
Xu Liefeng said coldly, "I have come sincerely. If you are wise, go and inform your general, say that I… can solve your Yellow Dragon Army's immediate crisis."
The soldiers, seeing Xu Liefeng's extraordinary martial skills and the looseness within the army, feared they couldn't retain him.
After considering for a moment, they said, "Alright, wait here." Then they went to notify Qi Biao.
