Gourmet: Midnight Vending

Chapter 122: I Can Eat Boss Xiaochen Out of Business!

Chen Mo felt he was almost full, but there was still a lot left in the pot. Throwing it away would be wasteful, yet there was no place to put it if he didn't.

"It would be great to take a nap now and then wake up just before dawn to watch the sunrise."

The food in the large iron pot had gone through three or four rounds of water addition and stewing, combined with fresh and old ingredients, the flavor at this point was so rich it made one dizzy.

To be honest, Chen Mo was really reluctant to just throw it away.

No exaggeration, if he scooped out all the ingredients inside and left only the broth, tossing in any random thing tomorrow morning would make for a gourmet meal!

Just as Chen Mo was considering how to handle the pot of ingredients.

A voice came to his ear.

"Good day, benefactor."

Chen Mo turned his head and saw two monks!

However, Chen Mo had a good memory. Seeing the monk standing further back seemed familiar, so he turned to glance at the white Land Rover.

Wasn't this guy just getting out of the Land Rover?

'Do monks make this much money nowadays?'

Chen Mo was quite shocked and stood up politely, saying, "Sorry, I don't have any money."

He thought the other party was here for alms.

"Oh..." Hui Neng was not embarrassed by this misunderstanding. He had seen this a lot whenever the abbot took them down the mountain to spread the teachings, "That's not what I meant."

Chen Mo looked at his pot again, it was full of meat, and big pieces at that, "But I have flour in my car to make steamed buns! Or noodles! I can work fast, how about I make you both some? Free of charge."

Upon hearing about steamed buns and noodles, Hui Neng and Hui Ke's stomachs immediately churned with acidity, feeling physiologically unwell.

Hui Neng shook his head, "No, benefactor."

"My junior brother and I were passing by and saw you eating hot pot, it's been a long time since we've had a proper meal, so we wanted to ask, how do you sell this?"

Chen Mo didn't think in that direction, and he said, "Vegetarian dishes are quite troublesome to make, and there aren't enough ingredients. Anyway, I can't make them today, so I definitely can't sell them."

Just when Hui Neng was about to speak again, Hui Ke got anxious. He pulled his senior brother behind him, thinking that staying on the mountain for five or six years truly makes one brain dead, can't even speak clearly.

It's up to the junior brother to take the stage himself.

"Bro."

Hui Ke spoke warmly, "Here's the thing, my senior and I are hungry, and we think your stuff is interesting and tasty, so we wanted to ask, are you selling this? If so, how do you charge?"

Chen Mo raised his hand, "Wait, hold on."

He tilted his head to look at the large iron pot, then turned back to look at the two of them.

He couldn't help but wonder, I must have heard wrong, right?

As if knowing what Chen Mo was thinking, Hui Ke quickly ran to the Land Rover, opened the car door, and pulled out two hats, placing them on himself and Hui Neng.

He asked, "Can you sell it now?"

Chen Mo replied blankly, "Yes!"

"How do you sell it?"

"Two yuan per chopstick, whatever you pick is what you eat, no regrets, no retries."

The usual rules.

Hui Neng nodded, "Good!"

Hui Ke's eyes lit up, "This eating method is interesting, but how do I know what's inside? If it's all worthless stuff, wouldn't we be losing out?"

Chen Mo casually grabbed the black ladle on the table, reached into the iron pot, and scooped.

On the black ladle was a big piece of pork knuckle, a chicken leg almost falling off the bone, and three pieces of pigs' trotters.

The meats were soy-braised to a glossy, tender finish, looking incredibly appetizing, especially to two people who hadn't had meat for over a year.

Hui Neng pointed at the black ladle, "I think it's good!"

Hui Ke nodded vigorously, "I can eat the boss out of business!"

Chen Mo dumped the ingredients back into the pot, took a few steps back with the black ladle, wanting to see how these two planned to eat him out of business.

Anyway, it's like helping himself handle the ingredients, and it's nearly one o'clock, so whether they eat more or less, I can gain some experience.

However, Chen Mo also knew that there wasn't enough food in the pot for two people, so he went to the food truck to continue preparing ingredients.

Hui Neng took two coins from his sleeve and placed them in an empty bowl on the yellow table, "Then I won't be polite, senior brother!"

Hui Ke also took out two one-yuan notes and placed them in the bowl, "Senior brother, I won't be polite either!"

With such expectations, the two extended their long chopsticks into the pot casually and expectantly, and then...

Hui Neng looked at the small piece of dried string bean on the end of his chopstick, "Where's the meat?"

Hui Ke looked at the potato slice on the end of his chopstick, "I must've picked the wrong way."

The long chopsticks were shared chopsticks, patrons needed to use them to pick out food into their bowls and then use their utensils to eat.

This was something everyone knew without being told.

Despite the bad luck, Boss Xiao Chen had just scooped out a whole bunch of meat, so Hui Neng and Hui Ke remained confident in their next attempt!

"The dried string beans are nice! Much better than the ones in our monastery's vegetarian dishes!" Hui Neng ate the bean and felt his long-dormant taste buds reawaken.

Even though it was a vegetarian dish, it was filled with the aroma of meat, combined with the rich spices, together with the unique texture of the dried string bean nearly made him bite his tongue off.

Hui Ke ate his potato slice, "Soft and tender, soaked with lots of broth, delicious!"

Both, in perfect sync, took out more money from their sleeves and placed it into the bowl.

...

At the foot of the mountain.

Gao Yang held a walkie-talkie and looked at the six in front of him.

"Why do you guys smell like braised meat?"

Zhou Hu chuckled, "Teacher Gao, are you hungry in the middle of the night, craving meat?"

Ma Qiang tilted his head, licking his lips, "Yes, Teacher Gao, there's nothing up there except for a broken temple, where would the meat smell come from? It's not like they serve meat in a temple, and they certainly don't serve it to us, right?"

Gao Yang had some suspicions initially, but Ma Qiang's words made sense to him.

There's nothing up there, just a temple.

How could there be meat in a temple? That doesn't seem reasonable.

"Alright then, let's head back. I'm telling you, if we don't step up, our school's going to shame itself at the college sports event in the provincial capital!"

The six nodded in unison and shouted, "Yes!"

Gao Yang opened the car door, "Let's go, head back. Remember, no midnight snacks tonight! Follow my diet plan for the next few days!"

Gao Yang got into the driver's seat and hadn't even started the engine. Suddenly, he saw numerous lights rushing up the road below, each light being a car.

The cars stopped at the scenic area entrance, scanned to pay the sightseeing fees, and then drove directly up the mountain road.

"Why are people heading up the mountain at this time of night? To watch the sunrise?"

Zhou Hu felt uneasy, "Maybe it's people going to race at Wanglong Mountain, let's go Teacher Gao, I'm sleepy."

Gao Yang started the engine and hadn't released the handbrake; cars kept speeding up, including taxis.

Something's not right.

Gao Yang, who loved excitement, was itching with curiosity.

"Let's go up and take a look, it will only take a few minutes."

Releasing the handbrake, he pressed the gas pedal.

Zhou Hu and the others watched as their van sped uphill following the cars in front.

Their faces were filled with panic.
