Gourmet: Midnight Vending

Chapter 47: Flavor-Seeking Recipe

Old Zhang watched Xiao Huang's food cart leave the granary yard, feeling a mix of emotions.

The Zhang family's traditions were broken today, but luckily, the customers around at the time were all from out of town, with no locals present.

"If no one knows I broke the tradition, it's like I didn't break it," Old Zhang thought.

Looking down, he saw his grandson Zhang Zihan trying to stuff a bun into his Ultraman backpack, with the meat juices already dripping out.

"Zihan, are you sure you can eat this tomorrow?"

Zhang Zihan used the [Fake Crying] skill.

Old Zhang surrendered immediately, "Alright, alright, stuff it all in then!"

...

The Xiao Huang cart slowly made its way through the streets of Ning County. Just like Jingzhou, Ning County was a city without much nightlife. By around 8 p.m., the streets were already empty.

Chen Mo was in a great mood.

If the flour met the system's A-level requirements, he would be even happier.

At the moment, other than Old Zhang's flour, he couldn't think of any flour that could meet the task requirements. This was what people called "Do your best and leave the rest to fate."

"Boss Xiao Chen, Boss Xiao Chen, give me a ride!"

Chen Mo slowly pressed the brake, poking his head out to see the young girl by the roadside, "Didn't you go home?"

"Yeah, but I came out again!"

"Didn't you say you were going to take a few days off?"

"Yes, but I'm going back to Jingzhou to rest!"

Alright then.

LuLu got into the cart and smoothly took over driving it. Seeing the joy on her face, Chen Mo curiously asked, "What's making you so happy?"

"I've decided, I'm quitting my job at the foot spa today!"

"And then?"

"Then... I'm a junior year student now. I've always wanted to be a content creator, I love shooting videos and writing news. I want to give it a try before I graduate, and if it doesn't work out, I'll see if I can find a job after I graduate next year."

Chen Mo unfolded a small stool and sat down, watching LuLu's back.

It's nice. This reflects the reality of everyday people. In a world where having a job is considered good enough, pursuing dreams recklessly is somewhat unrealistic.

After all, no one can work on an empty stomach, right?

At least having someone to drive is nice. As darkness completely enveloped them, LuLu no longer dared to joke around, focusing intently on the road ahead and maneuvering the steering wheel slowly.

Chen Mo took out the bag of flour, grasped a handful in his palm, and then released it.

"Oh?"

Releasing his fist, the pale-yellow flour fell like sand, not forming a clump, and even left little residue on his hands.

He picked up another pinch of flour and brought it to his nose.

'Old Zhang's flour indeed has something special in it.'

This was just raw flour, yet its wheat fragrance was distinct, different from the wheat aroma of cooked noodles or buns.

Ordinary flour only smelled like ordinary flour.

But this flour emitted a very clear aroma, somewhat akin to a faint "wheat milk tea" scent.

Since LuLu didn't have time to notice what's behind her, Chen Mo took out half of the flour and put it in the storage cabinet, leaving the remaining half on the workbench.

"Ingredient Identification!"

[Identifying ingredient...]

[Identification complete!]

[Flour made from hybrid wheat stone-ground, rated: A-level]

[Produced by hybrid planting of multiple wheat varieties, it has a very low yield and excellent taste. Each grain of wheat undergoes 18 rounds of grinding, with a flour yield rate of only 50%. It is considered premium quality wheat flour.]

If LuLu wasn't in front, Chen Mo would have wanted to punch the air and shout loudly!!!

A-level flour!

Mission, accomplished!

Suppressing the excitement in his heart, Chen Mo did not claim the reward immediately. Although he knew the food cart would automatically upgrade when no one was looking, his naturally cautious character would not permit any chance of an accident.

At nine o'clock in the evening, the Xiao Huang food cart finally returned to Jingzhou. After saying goodbye to LuLu, Chen Mo hurried home, wishing he could install an electric motor on the cart right away, zoom zoom zoom!

"Claim reward."

In the dark, abandoned building, when Chen Mo uttered those words, familiar text started floating before his eyes.

[Congratulations on completing the side quest, Seeking Flavor.]

[Reward obtained: Cloning Chef Machine *1 (will be installed and placed in your food cart), Flavor-Seeking Recipe *1 (Noodles)]

As the text appeared, Chen Mo felt like he had learned something new in his mind.

"How to make a bowl of mesmerizing noodles?"

No way... After all the hard work till the middle of the night, the final reward is a noodle recipe?

Chen Mo genuinely thought it was a bit ridiculous.

Because if it were anything else, from any of the eight great cuisines, it would be fine, but noodles... noodles are a bit underwhelming.

What kind of place is Jingzhou?

In the whole country, even across the world, it's a city famous for noodles!

Not to mention, just across the bridge there's that auntie selling handmade noodles.

The texture of her noodles is top-notch. Though the sauce is heavy on oil and salt, it caters to workers finishing the night shift and miners returning home at midnight.

These days, only that auntie can match Chen Mo's earnings.

Those hardworking people don't spare 2 yuan for a small egg dumpling, that money is hard-earned by them.

The auntie's handmade noodles cost 6 yuan a bowl, with an additional 1 yuan each for an egg, ham, and dried tofu. In total, 9 yuan gets you a large, satisfying bowl, priding itself on being cheap, delicious, and cost-effective.

So when Chen Mo saw the reward recipe was noodles, he was a bit... slightly disappointed.

"No noodle novice can survive in Jingzhou for more than three days."

But since it was a reward, he accepted it. It was getting late, and there weren't any extra ingredients in the food cart. Chen Mo had to suppress his curiosity about the "Cloning Chef Machine" and slowly climbed to the 28th floor carrying a bucket.

"I can always sell egg dumplings and fried rice or braised meat buns if things don't work out."

Chen Mo also realized that noodle profits can be significant, but in Jingzhou, noodles are sold in two ways.

Stall-based, featuring large portions to satisfy hunger, while surprisingly tasty noodles.

The other way involves slightly higher prices and requires a store at the very least.

No one would want to pay more than 15 yuan for a bowl of noodles and then squat on the street slurping them down.

Lying in bed with thoughts running wild, Chen Mo soon fell asleep, exhausted from the past few days of setting up the stall.

The benefit of sleeping early is waking up early.

The next morning, Chen Mo rushed to the first floor, jumping into the food cart.

While going downstairs, he was thinking how the Cloning Chef Machine would make things much easier when kneading dough for buns and even whisking egg mixtures.

And as Chen Mo dashed into the cart, he bumped into something unknown inside the cart.

"Ow..."

Chen Mo held his forehead, looking at the new changes inside the cart.

Wasn't it supposed to be a chef machine?

How... how could there be a chef machine this big in the world?
