Gourmet: Midnight Vending

Chapter 82: Two Men Share One Mapo Tofu

Four more portions, and then four more. According to the original plan, the tofu stored in Chen Mo's food truck was quickly dwindling.

At this point, Dunzi and Zhang Feng, who had been watching by the side, couldn't resist any longer.

"Madman, did you get full just now?"

"Full? I had two bowls of spicy noodles, two servings of tofu, and a meat bun."

Dunzi smacked his lips and said, "Why do I feel like the Mapo tofu these guys are eating is different from what we had before?"

Zhang Feng focused his eyes and looked carefully, "Now that you mention it, it does seem a bit different. Feels like..."

"Glowing, right? Come here, stand at my angle and see if it's glowing."

Zhang Feng leaned his head beside Dunzi, "Damn, it really is glowing!"

The two of them simultaneously turned to look at each other, an unspoken understanding formed, and then they both stood up and went to the food truck.

"Boss Xiao Chen, give us two more servings!"

Chen Mo just finished making four servings, "Woah! Are you guys crazy? Can you really handle gorging yourselves like this every day?"

Dunzi didn't have much to worry about, his body seemed built to eat, and Zhang Feng wasn't fat either; he had quite a standard physique.

"It's not every day, mainly because it seems like you've changed how you make it, and we want to try and see what's different," Dunzi explained.

Chen Mo pushed two servings of tofu in front of them, "Alright, these two are on the house, my treat. Thanks for running to Ning County for me in the middle of the night."

Chen Mo had already calculated that whether he could meet the mission experience value requirements wasn't dependent on this hundred Yuan, but since Dunzi had helped out late at night, the favor had to be returned.

Dunzi wasn't one to be polite, "Thanks, Boss Xiao Chen. When you're not busy, I'll treat you to a footbath someday."

Mu Mu had initially scooped a full serving of rice for Dunzi, but after hearing this, quietly took out half of it before handing it to the two of them.

"The new Mapo tofu does taste a bit different."

Dunzi took a bite and felt the taste wasn't too different from before, but it was somehow more flavorful, with the tofu being more filled with juice.

Matched with rice, it tasted much better.

But why did it feel like the rice serving was smaller than before?

Zhang Feng felt quite stuffed but couldn't stop eating, each hot bite warming his entire body, "Boss Xiao Chen, you've kept some tricks up your sleeve! After having this tofu today, I'll never order it at a restaurant again."

Dunzi nodded in agreement.

There's absolutely no one in the world who can make this dish tastier than Boss Xiao Chen.

Bored on the side, He Chunming intruded, "Brother Dun, let me have a taste."

Dunzi, feeling disdainful, suggested he find a clean spoon, "Boss He earns so much money but can't spare for one serving?"

He Chunming took a taste of the tofu, indeed finding it a lot tastier than the first serving, and smiled sheepishly, "It's not that. The girls I brought here haven't eaten yet, and it's past midnight, can't let them go home hungry, right?"

"If it's really better than before, I'll sponsor the group for a late-night snack."

He Chunming, as a boss, had some ideas.

Initially, bringing the foot therapists out onto the street met resistance, especially from the newcomers, for fear of running into acquaintances, which was less likely in-store. But big tips from Chunming made it possible to bring so many therapists out tonight.

They'd been working hard for so long, busy giving foot rubs, watching others eat while they couldn't touch a bite, surely they must be starving.

However, Chunming wasn't that generous; he thought of negotiating a group discount with Boss Chen Mo — two therapists could share a tofu, and a bowl of rice would suffice.

After tasting Dunzi's tofu and finding it indeed good, he approached Boss Xiao Chen.

Du Qiming, after downing two servings of tofu, felt completely refreshed, and looking over at his mates still devouring their food, with no sign of stopping.

He was somewhat full, having eaten two bowls of rice and two servings of Mapo tofu.

But when he looked at the food truck, Du Qiming felt he could go for another serving.

This Mapo tofu seemed to possess some magical power; every bite was delightful, but the tangy flavor lingering in the mouth kept beckoning for more, just like munching on sunflower seeds — if there's a bowl, who can resist?

"Never mind," Du Qiming stood up and walked to the food truck, "I haven't had a full meal in days anyway, might as well eat more to fill up." He comforted himself silently.

However, someone else was queuing in front, and as Du Qiming waited, he overheard the person's chat with the boss.

"Boss Xiao Chen, any chance we can get a group deal?"

Chen Mo put the pot back after washing it, "What do you mean?"

"See, we've got over thirty therapists, can you give us a discount on 20 servings of Mapo tofu?"

Without hesitation, Chen Mo agreed, "Alright, 45 Yuan per serving."

Seeing Chen Mo agree so quickly, He Chunming didn't waste words, immediately paying 950 Yuan via scan, "That extra 50 is for the rice!"

In Jingzhou, rice is typically charged per bowl, about 3 Yuan in ordinary eateries. Many visitors from the south find this unbearable, whereas northerners might find it a great deal to pay 1 Yuan per person for unlimited rice down south, often going for eight bowls.

It's just a difference in regional customs.

Currently, Chen Mo still had enough ingredients to make slightly less than thirty servings, and with He Chunming's help, Chen Mo was no longer worried about upgrading the food truck.

With He Chunming's order set, Du Qiming stepped forward, "Boss, I'll have another..."

Chen Mo interrupted him promptly, "So, how was it? Tasty?"

Du Qiming understood the implication behind Chen Mo's words, but continued to hold his ground, "I've been a bit starved these days, just focused on filling my stomach. Another serving should suffice to determine the taste."

In truth, Du Qiming knew he couldn't escape paying for today's meal, but he was prepared for it; after all, meals cost money.

But he regretted boasting when he first arrived, claiming he'd throw a carnival if they weren't a team.

That could be half a month's salary!

Seeing this guy still putting up a front, Chen Mo didn't bother arguing, "The usual? One serving per person?"

City Construction Du Gong nodded enthusiastically, and Boss Xiao Chen got to work excitedly.

Batch after batch of tofu was ready, as Du Qiming tried to grab a serving, Chen Mo stopped him, "That's for someone else, just wait a moment."

Then, every four servings prepared, the surveying crew members would come and grab them.

Du Qiming continued waiting on the spot.

When they reached the last portion, Chen Mo scratched his head, "Uh-oh, seems like... it's not enough, only one serving left."

Du Qiming hadn't gotten his third serving, and Survey Xiaoliu hadn't either.

The two of them looked at each other simultaneously.

Chen Mo felt a bit awkward as well; who could have guessed this would happen?

What to do?
