Wizard: Starting from the Skill Tree

Chapter 156: Space Fortress

Duke saw the Elizabeth for the first time, and he never imagined that such a colossal structure would be anchored in this sea within the Black Sail's territory.

The Elizabeth, resembling a small continent, did not immediately reveal itself as a ship at first glance, at least not to Duke, who couldn't see its entirety.

Duke accompanied Merrick to a wide plaza.

At the center of the plaza stood a gigantic Light Gate, its interior pitch black, with a vortex slowly rotating within.

Wizards continuously entered and exited, their destinations unknown.

Merrick quickly found Master Land among the surrounding crowd and introduced Duke to him.

"Master Land!" Duke greeted respectfully.

Master Land merely glanced at Duke, nodded slightly, and said, "Hmm."

If not for Duke being Merrick's friend, Master Land probably wouldn't have spared even a glance at this ordinary Wizard Apprentice.

Beside Master Land were four Official Wizards, exuding powerful auras, all belonging to Land's lineage.

After Duke and Merrick arrived, they set off.

Duke and Merrick followed behind, heading towards the massive Light Gate.

Master Land and his group, without the slightest hesitation or pause, stepped directly into the Light Gate, their figures and auras vanishing entirely.

Duke followed closely and also crossed into the Light Gate.

After a brief sense of dizziness and darkness, he found himself standing on another expansive platform.

Overhead and all around, they were enveloped by a transparent, glass-like material, through which the vast starry sky could be seen.

Turning back, Duke realized he was now inside a gigantic Space Fortress.

He had heard of the existence of Space Fortresses before—massively voluminous space strongholds capable of traversing the Endless Plane freely.

Building each Space Fortress requires enormous manpower and resources, and even a Wizard Organization like Black Sail possesses only this one.

Rumor had it that Black Hand Morgan's Elizabeth was actually a Space Fortress too, but since no one had seen it set sail, this couldn't be verified.

This particular Space Fortress of Black Sail was called the Raider, covering an area about half the size of the Appalachian Continent, a small continent in its own right.

It embodies nearly all advanced technology from the Wizard Plane, representing the pinnacle of Wizard Civilization.

The technology it incorporates includes not only that of Wizard Civilization but also techniques from other Planes.

Wizards learn broadly, humbly adopting advanced technologies from other Plane civilizations to enhance their own development.

Once Duke appeared on the deck, he continued to follow Master Land and the others.

Master Land and his companions seemed very familiar with the place, walking and chatting as they moved forward.

The Space Fortress had over a hundred layers from top to bottom, and they were currently on the 51st floor, the midsection.

Duke and Merrick both received a Space Fortress handbook, a single piece of thin parchment, seemingly sparse.

However, by entering it with Spiritual Power, a wealth of information appeared, detailed about the Space Fortress in many aspects.

The handbook documented most areas of the Space Fortress, with clear labels for living areas, training zones, slave creature sectors, combat regions, and more.

It also included procedures for emergency rescue and escape methods in emergencies.

Corresponding manuals for common facilities on the Space Fortress were detailed.

Duke found it to be an encyclopedia of sorts, requiring one or two months to read thoroughly.

The entries were clear, making them handy for reference when needed.

However, those working long-term on the Space Fortress must memorize it fully.

Being sufficiently familiar with the handbook allows one to know how to handle situations immediately during emergencies.

The colossal Space Fortress relies on countless personnel to operate smoothly, with staff functioning like precision parts maintaining its operations.

From the handbook, Duke learned that the primary power source of the Space Fortress was Energy Crystal Stones.

Mystical Stones are a type of Energy Crystal Stone, a specialty of the Wizard Plane.

Other Planes have different kinds of similar Energy Crystal Stones with similar properties, usable as Energy Sources.

The Space Fortress mostly uses Energy Crystal Stones from other Planes, generally avoiding using the Wizard Plane's Mystical Stones unless necessary.

This strategy of conserving local resources is widely adopted by various forces on the Wizard Plane to prevent depletion.

Whenever possible, they tap into resources from other Planes.

Should resources in other Planes be depleted, Wizards simply move on to the next Plane for resource extraction.

Duke could hardly imagine how much resources this Space Fortress would consume in a single day.

Indeed, the resource outlay per second was astronomical.

The internal routes of the Space Fortress were complex, resembling a most intricate maze.

Even with signs everywhere, one could easily get lost without memorizing the handbook's map.

Most newcomers to the Space Fortress go through a phase of getting lost.

Duke and Merrick stuck closely to Master Land's group, traversing through the Space Fortress diligently.

Throughout the journey, Duke worked hard to memorize the routes they traversed, cross-referencing them with the 51st floor map in the handbook to solidify his impressions.

Merrick was doing the same, equally awe-struck by the grandeur and precision of this civilization product he saw for the first time.

Suddenly, Master Land turned back, pointing to two adjacent rooms and saying, "These are your rooms, already registered. Use your Black Sail Badges to unlock the doors. I need to attend a meeting; stay nearby and don't wander off."

Having said this, Master Land left hurriedly with the others, seemingly summoned to an urgent meeting.

Both Duke and Merrick entered their respective rooms, finding them more cramped than Duke had imagined.

The space was extremely compact, featuring a single bed, a small bathroom, and a simple little kitchen.
