Wizard: Starting from the Skill Tree

Chapter 330: Plane Rules

The guards stared in disbelief at the demons, which were so ferocious moments ago, forcing them into a perilous situation, now falling like harvested wheat.

Those mysterious yellow arrows were more precise than the most seasoned hunters and incredibly lethal.

Even the leader of the Gray Rock Hyenas couldn't withstand a single arrow, their tough fur as vulnerable as thin paper before these arrows.

Finn stood on the rock, his palms sweaty around the short knife, realizing his pride in speed and perception felt utterly powerless compared to this miraculous attack.

He witnessed an arrow almost graze his scalp, pinning the Hyena behind him, ready to launch a sneak attack, onto the rock.

If it had deviated just slightly, it would have lifted his skull, and Finn felt grateful he hadn't panicked and moved.

In reality, these arrows were all condensed from the yellow sand by Duke and controlled with Spiritual Power with such precision that there was no risk of misfire.

Even if Finn had indeed made a sudden move, these arrows would have bent around him.

Duke manipulated these arrows like an extension of his own arm, targeting and hitting with absolute accuracy.

In just a few breaths, the once overwhelming and dominant pack of Gray Rock Hyenas, under Duke's energy arrow assault that felt like divine retribution, instantly collapsed like an ant colony doused in boiling water.

More than two-thirds of the hyenas became cold corpses on the ground, the remaining few, having been scared witless, whimpered in fear, tucked their tails, and ran for their lives, disappearing into the shrubs on the hillside, leaving behind a scene of devastation and a strong stench of blood.

The valley plunged into an eerie silence.

Only the groans of injured guards, the unease of pack animals, and the wind's wailing against the rock wall could be heard.

Everyone was still immersed in the shock of the brief yet stunning visual impact, their minds blank.

The ordinary workers and drivers were petrified, looking at Duke with fear and awe as if witnessing a God.

The guards dropped their weapons and gasped for air, looking at Duke with eyes full of gratitude for their survival and an unfathomable reverence.

They knew if it weren't for this man, at least half or more of the convoy would have suffered casualties.

Bal and Finn felt it most acutely; they could clearly sense that Duke's intervention earlier was merely some casual handiwork.

They realized that Lord Jelot had not even truly showcased his power, just effortlessly flicked his fingers to resolve this wolf pack.

"It seems Lord Jelot is considered quite strong even among level one Awakened," Finn thought.

They had seen level one Awakened before, but none could resolve battles as easily as Duke.

Finn and Bal also noticed that Duke didn't even absorb the energy within these hyenas, obviously dismissing it as insignificant since the energy in ordinary demons was negligible for a level one Awakened.

Absorbing energy from these ordinary demons not only doesn't help increase one's power but could increase the risk of getting Erosion Disease.

This was what Finn thought, although he actually didn't know Duke couldn't absorb the hyena energy at all.

For Duke, it's indeed simple and monotonous.

If he wasn't observing Finn and Bal's combat, he could have dealt with the wolf pack already.

Duke was exerting himself with minimal Magic Power expenditure, solving the threat with ordinary arrow condensation.

He did this to keep a low profile and conceal his own strength and methods, not exposing too much to others.

Otherwise, he could unleash the yellow sand like a sweeping storm and take out the wolves in an instant.

Duke stood on the top of the wagon, his robe gently swaying in the breeze, not a speck of blood or dust on him.

"Lord Jelot, the energy within these hyenas..." Finn respectfully asked.

"You can use it at your discretion," Duke waved his hand, pretending to be indifferent. Finn and Bal, granted permission, smiled brightly and bowed respectfully.

For many level one Awakened, not absorbing energy from low-level demons is quite normal, as there are some implicit rules in this world.

Duke acted nonchalantly after understanding these, thus eliminating the hyenas without a second thought.

He calmly surveyed the chaotic battlefield, his gaze skimming over the frightened faces, finally landing on Hawke.

"Clear the battlefield, treat the injured, and leave here as soon as possible," his voice was still plain, as if the breathtaking massacre was just wiping a bit of dust off his sleeve, "The scent of blood will attract more trouble."

"Yes, sir!" Hawke immediately straightened his body and responded loudly, turning to command the still shell-shocked convoy members.

The entire convoy, as if injected with a dose of stimulant, driven by awe and gratitude, worked with unprecedented efficiency.

Duke then gently leaped down from the top of the wagon, lay back inside, and closed his eyes again as if nothing had happened.

The shadow and scent of the wolf pack attack gradually faded away as the convoy left the narrow valley, and the atmosphere within the convoy turned strangely tense after Duke's power display.

Reverence and gratitude lingered, but a hint of fear was also added.

The Awakened of the Devourer Plane always had a notorious reputation, even more ferocious than beasts for ordinary people, who could be devoured at any moment.

The ordinary workers and drivers became more cautious around Duke, even deliberately quieting their breathing.

For the following half month, the convoy traveled through sparsely populated wilderness and forests.

For ordinary people on the Devourer Plane, there were almost no small villages scattered in the mountains, all of which had to attach themselves to large city-states to survive.

Because there were too many powerful demons in the wild, ordinary people had no chance or space for survival.

Thus, most of the Devourer Plane formed into massive city-states, with countless villages and towns surrounding these city-states, allowing ordinary people to survive.

Near the city-states, generally, there wouldn't be any very powerful demons, as these places are cleared regularly.

Even if a powerful demon appeared, the strong Awakened in the city-state could arrive in time to clear or drive them away.

During this time, Duke, through hints from Finn and Bal, learned quite a bit about this world, noting that there was an unwritten rule: Awakened individuals cannot wantonly slaughter ordinary people.

This rule was intriguing, reminding Duke of similar rules on the Wizard Plane, prohibiting wizards from wantonly slaughtering ordinary people.

The rule in the Devourer Plane predetermined it as a world of survival of the fittest, where eliminating others is the way to grow stronger.

Such a situation would inevitably lead to chaos and disorder, with everyone killing each other, from which some powerful beings might emerge, but also it would result in most lower and middle-tier lives gradually dwindling.

The strong at the top, wanting to continue enhancing themselves, essentially need a lot of energy, if the middle and lower tier lives faded away, it could cap their improvement ceiling.

Theoretically, the energy one can acquire is limited to the total life energy in their own Plane.

However, the total energy in the Devourer Plane isn't constant, with all Awakened having two ways to enhance power: looting from other lives or gradually increasing through daily cultivation.
