Wizard: Starting from the Skill Tree

Chapter 389: Messenger Contract

Yarbede heard Duke's question and let out a laugh as clear as ice crystal wind chimes, tinged with a hint of teasing.

Her violet-black eyes sparkled, seeming to find Duke quite amusing.

"The price?" She tilted her head slightly, a white horn almost touching Duke's forehead, bringing a trace of coldness.

"My price is that before delivering each message, you must... bring me joy once."

As Yarbede spoke, she gazed directly at Duke with those violet-black eyes, as if they could capture souls, filled with candid and provocative hints.

Her slender fingers even gently traced the edge of her armor flickering with a mysterious gloss beneath her collarbone.

Duke received not just language, but far more specific and impactful Spiritual Power information, conveying meanings that made his blood surge instantly, his cheeks flushing slightly.

He instinctively glanced quickly at Yarbede's tall, perfect figure outlined dramatically by tight armor, as well as the face so close, blending holiness with corruption, so beautiful it was breathtaking.

The so-called joy, within the Spiritual Power message given by Yarbede, was extremely straightforward and explicit.

Yet Duke quickly regained clarity, knowing that in the presence of such an entity, pursuing joy would only likely cost him his life.

Seeing Duke's eyes instantly clear, with a flicker of wary caution flashing across his face, Yarbede suddenly leaned back, letting out an even more delighted laugh, carrying a sense of mischievous triumph. The laughter echoed in the empty hall, filled with enchanting allure.

Looking at Duke, Yarbede said, "The price I need is merely a gold coin, the content and weight are irrelevant, just a symbolic gold coin."

"Just a single gold coin?" Duke was stunned; he didn't expect Yarbede's price to be so simple, essentially no cost at all.

"Of course, right now besides your body and soul, what else can you offer me? So, to me, any price makes no difference." Yarbede laughed.

"How about it? This price, compared to the joyful price earlier, is much easier to accept, isn't it? Of course, if you prefer that price, I can still alter the conditions."

Yarbede asked with a playful smile, deliberately referring back to the earlier jest.

"No need, Miss Yarbede, a gold coin will suffice, thank you for your generosity." Duke said respectfully.

Though the opponent seemed casual, he couldn't show any disrespect, he must perform adequately.

Being polite before you are able to fight back is always safer, enabling you to live longer.

"Then let's go with this." Yarbede waved her hand, and a rune diagram formed of Spiritual Power appeared in front, representing the Messenger Contract.

Duke scanned it swiftly with his Spiritual Power, reading through the contents. The contract was straightforward, lacking complex clauses—just an ordinary Messenger Contract.

He cautiously verified it several times and, upon confirming its accuracy, signed the Messenger Contract with Yarbede.

After signing the Messenger Contract, an imprint appeared in Duke's mind, allowing him to summon Yarbede in the future to deliver messages through it.

Upon signing the Messenger Contract, neither party could harm the other deliberately, a fundamental constraint of many contracts, not excluding the Messenger Contract.

With the signing of the Messenger Contract, Duke was at least assured that the other party wouldn't suddenly attack him, providing some level of safety.

However, he still hadn't figured out the opponent's power, worried that such entities might not be restrained by the Messenger Contract, necessitating caution.

"Then, look forward to your first letter, my Mr. Duke." Yarbede chuckled softly, her figure gradually fading.

With the Messenger Contract signed, the effect of the Destiny Bone Dice was nearing its end, faster than initially anticipated.

Yarbede could only temporarily appear here through the power of the Destiny Bone Dice, unable to linger for long.

Moreover, her own power was far too strong, already exceeding the Destiny Bone Dice's bearing limit, consequently shortening the summoning duration.

As Yarbede departed, the surroundings returned to tranquility.

Yet both Duke and Matthew broke into cold sweats.

The pressure Yarbede exerted on them was immense, a suppression emanating from the level of life itself, instinctively evoking fear.

The stronger one's own power, the stronger this feeling becomes, with Matthew perceiving it even more acutely than Duke, deeply experiencing Yarbede's terror.

Throughout, he didn't even move a finger, too afraid to trigger any defensive measures within the witch array against Yarbede.

Matthew understood that although Yarbede communicated solely with Duke, all of his belongings were under Yarbede's perception.

He believed that a single reckless move would surely lead to his immediate death.

Duke's weaker power meant his sensations were less pronounced, though Yarbede deliberately withheld her aura from targeting him.

Everything happened swiftly, and passed quickly.

If not for the Messenger imprint lingering in his mind, Duke might have thought it merely an illusion.

Yet he wondered to himself, "Why did I summon an entity like Yarbede?"

The extent of Yarbede's power was unclear, but it was certain to exceed Level 4.

This witch array was meant to constrain power below Level 4; generally, summoned lifeforms exceeding Level 4 couldn't manifest forces beyond Level 4.

But whether due to the Destiny Bone Dice's uniqueness or Yarbede's overpowering strength, the protective witch array here seemed ineffective against Yarbede.

Duke suddenly recalled that the summoning process inherently relates to the summoner's strength.

Typically, the stronger the summoner, the likelier the chance to summon powerful life forms.

If an ordinary Wizard Apprentice attempts a summoning, it's unlikely to summon a powerful life entity.

Because the essence of summoning involves sending invitations to qualified entities on other planes via the rules of the Endless Plane.

If you're too weak, no one would bother with you, at most some little creatures like frogs might inadvertently be summoned.

With Duke's Level 1 Mage strength, he theoretically couldn't summon an entity of Yarbede's caliber.

However, he recalled the Divine Status in his mind from the God of Light, which had become part of his body and soul.

Though not yet fully exerted, it remained within him, part of him.
