Wizard: Starting from the Skill Tree

Chapter 88: Substitute Death Grassman

A brown-haired teenager followed Uli unhurriedly, expressionless, holding a dagger in his hand, with black flames burning on the dagger.

Uli saw him coming and said, "Merrick, do you really dare to hunt me down? Don't think that just because you're Land's student, you can do whatever you want. Our Jokic Clan is not easy to mess with!"

Merrick laughed, "So what if I kill you? Your Jokic Clan has so many people. Would they make a move just because of a dwarf like you? Even if they did, my teacher wouldn't sit idly by."

Upon hearing the word "dwarf," Uli's anger flared again.

He had always disliked Merrick; as a half-blood mage by birth, Uli disliked Merrick from the very core of his lineage.

But Merrick had always been popular on Academy Island, thanks to his outstanding talent, strong background, and good looks, which made him very popular.

Uli, on the other hand, was the opposite—extreme in personality, ugly in appearance, and more feared than liked by the people on Academy Island.

This made Uli feel very unbalanced, often clashing with Merrick.

Merrick never tolerated him, often calling him "dwarf," which infuriated Uli.

After the beast tide last night, the situation on the island became even more chaotic, and Uli got separated from Went, coincidentally encountering Merrick.

Enemies meeting face to face, with blood boiling all the more.

Without a word, Uli attacked Merrick directly, vowing to keep Merrick on the island.

Unexpectedly, Merrick's strength was far beyond what Uli anticipated, and with many powerful demonized items at his disposal, Uli was no match for Merrick at all.

After all, the Jokic Clan had many descendants like Uli, but students of Master Land were few. The treatment the two received was completely different.

Merrick indeed had exceptional talent; though not from a Wizard Clan, his talent on the path of wizardry was excellent, otherwise, he wouldn't have been noticed by Level 3 Wizard Master Land.

At this point, Uli's magic power was nearly exhausted, and he had finished all the potion supplements.

He held a magic stone, hoping to absorb energy from it to replenish his magic power.

But in such a short time, Uli couldn't absorb much energy, and the magic he could replenish was extremely limited, too brief a time.

His demonized items were no longer functional, leaving him in a completely dire situation.

Merrick, seemingly finished playing, toyed with the dagger in his hand and lightly threw it.

The dagger with black flames instantly flew away, piercing through Uli's chest, but miraculously left no wound, no blood spattered.

Yet Uli's eyes instantly lost their luster, and he collapsed weakly, sinking into the lake.

Merrick didn't bother to check, directly turning and leaving, showing great confidence that he had dealt with Uli.

After Uli's body sank to the bottom of the lake, Duke had been keeping an eye on it, refraining from making any rash moves, merely sending some shadow insects to monitor from a distance.

A few minutes later, black smoke suddenly emerged from Uli's body, and a grassman doll appeared, then spontaneously ignited, quickly turning to ashes.

Uli's vacant eyes gradually gathered focus, and amazingly, he came back to life.

He looked around and started swimming, seemingly finding Duke's cave, swimming over.

Uli appeared to notice the cave, emerged from the water, and cursed loudly, "Damn Merrick, actually made me use the Substitute Death Grassman in such a place!"

The Substitute Death Grassman was an extremely precious Level 1 Witchcraft Artifact, not a demonized item, but one that could shield its host from death once.

The importance of such a special witchcraft artifact is self-evident, and Uli only had this one artifact, used in an ordinary test, leaving him very depressed, increasing his hatred for Merrick.

Uli suddenly sensed something, looked up to find someone—slightly familiar.

He recognized it as the wizard apprentice he encountered during the day, saying sharply, "Kid, hand over all your magic potions and potions, and give me the space ring!"

Uli assumed Duke would comply; in his view, such an ordinary wizard apprentice wouldn't dare oppose him.

Duke was speechless; this was completely trouble descending from the heavens—who knew he would be dragged into this while quietly staying in such a hidden cave.

Naturally, he wouldn't hand over the contents of the space ring.

Uli was now stretched to the limit; there was no need to fear him.

Duke did not speak, merely silently condensing a dark green water arrow.

Uli exclaimed, "You!"

Unable to believe the person before him dared to attack him, and even more without saying a word.

Uli had no magic power left, completely defenseless.

The water arrow instantly pierced through his head, blasting his entire skull apart, blood splattered everywhere.

Duke conjured a water shield to block the splattering blood, watching the headless body floating on the water, silently contemplating.

Moments later, he condensed a stream to extract the space ring from Uli's hand, then cleaned all the blood in the cave, sending it into the underground lake stream.

The stream carried the blood into the sea, gradually dissipating.

Duke also sent Uli's body into the stream, carried out to the ocean outside the island.

He purposely waited here until several deep sea magical beasts, drawn by the blood, came and witnessed them devour the corpse cleanly before leaving.

Duke never physically touched Uli throughout, doing everything using water streams.

He had to completely dissociate himself; after Uli's death, the Jokic Clan would undoubtedly investigate. No traces should be left about himself.

After disposing of Uli's body, Duke manipulated the water flows into the cave, continuously washing away the traces inside.

He looked at Uli's floating space ring, exploring with spiritual power, found little inside.

Aside from some clothing and food, the most valuable were over five hundred Level 1 magic stones and a pile of magic potion materials and unopened magic potions.

For Duke, this counted as a fortune.

The space ring was quite large, a full ten cubic meters.

Duke very much wanted to keep the space ring, but holding onto it would be a problem.

Space rings, when worn for long periods, become infused with their owner's aura.

This aura is hard to remove, at least difficult for Duke to handle properly now.

Wizards have many methods, Duke couldn't guarantee that the Jokic Clan wouldn't trace him through this space ring.

Once within the Jokic Clan's sights, Duke would basically be dead—his current strength is weak, with no background, completely unable to contend with such a Wizard Clan.
