Lu Qi sighed. He had foresight; the 120 ambulance had already sent Tang Tianyi to the hospital, but this turned what should have been a proactive defense into a passive situation.
Zhao Xiaohui voiced injustice for Xu Chunliang, "Obviously, it was Tang Tianyi and his group who provoked first, and they kidnapped Zhen Chun into the private room. Isn't that illegal detention?"
Lu Qi said, "There is a lack of evidence. Zhen Chun says she was forced by them, but they claim she went voluntarily. Both sides stand firm on their stories."
"There should be surveillance on site, right?"
Lu Qi shook his head. The bar didn't provide it.
The bar intentionally hid a lot of evidence today, making a simple case complicated. Now it's a situation of 'he said, she said.' Based on the current testimonies, Xu Chunliang is somewhat at a disadvantage.
Zhao Xiaohui showed Lu Qi some footage she recorded in the private room. She hadn't provided it to the police because it might actually backfire; it only shows Xu Chunliang hitting people, which isn't helpful.
After watching, Lu Qi returned the phone to Zhao Xiaohui. It's fortunate this video wasn't handed over, otherwise Xu Chunliang would be in more trouble. Though Tang Tianyi started it, Xu Chunliang's retaliation was too severe.
Xu Chunliang told Zhao Xiaohui to head back first and thanked her for today.
Lu Qi pointed to his car, indicating he would drop Xu Chunliang home on the way.
On the way, Lu Qi told Xu Chunliang that Tang Tianyi has quite a background. The key to this matter is to prove Tang Tianyi harassed Zhen Chun first. He's planning to talk to the bar owner, Xie Chunlei, to see if he's willing to provide relevant evidence.
Xu Chunliang showed no pressure, telling Lu Qi not to worry; he can handle it himself.
Lu Qi thought to himself, if you can handle it, why call me? This guy is as stubborn as a cooked duck with a hard beak.
Xu Chunliang got off the car at Huichun Hall, patted the car roof, and said, "Brother Lu, thanks!"
Lu Qi waved it off, saying there's no need to express gratitude between friends. He reminded Xu Chunliang to handle this matter cautiously, suggesting he stay low for a couple of days. If there's any move from the other side, Xu Chunliang should report to him immediately or even alert the police if necessary. It's a society governed by law, and using legal tools effectively is crucial.
If you don't understand the rules, you're bound to be troubled by them.
Xu Chunliang watched Lu Qi's car drive away and was about to enter when Mei Ru Xue called.
Xu Chunliang checked the time; it was already eleven at night. "Town Mayor Mei, what can I do for you at this hour?"
Mei Ru Xue asked, "Did you get into trouble?"
Xu Chunliang was startled, wondering how Mei Ru Xue heard about this. Then he thought it might be something else, so he chuckled, "You've got me confused. Which thing are you referring to?"
Mei Ru Xue said, "The bar fight."
Xu Chunliang laughed, "Town Mayor Mei, you're really well-informed. How did you know?"
Mei Ru Xue told him she was also staying at the Marriott recently. She bumped into some of his cousins downstairs while buying something, and it was Zhen Chun who mentioned the bar incident.
Xu Chunliang thought to himself, Zhen Chun has a fast mouth. It's not even a good thing, yet she spread it around. He figured this secret wouldn't last.
"Don't worry, it's all handled. It was their fault, not mine."
Mei Ru Xue said, "I never thought you were this impulsive before."
Xu Chunliang replied, "That's because I hadn't come across something worth being impulsive about. If someone dared to bully you, I'd be even more impulsive."
Mei Ru Xue went silent, then after a while, she quietly said, "I know."
Xu Chunliang could even sense the warmth from her heart.
"Were you hurt?"
Xu Chunliang said, "No!" He sat on a chair by the door, looked at the full moon in the sky, and said, "Not many people in this world can hurt me, but you're probably one of them."
"Xu Chunliang, can't you talk properly? If you keep babbling, I'll hang up."
"Alright then, guess what I'm doing right now?"
Mei Ru Xue said, "Don't need to guess, you're just daydreaming at the moon alone, right?"
Xu Chunliang blinked, "You're getting to know me better."
"I don't really know you." Mei Ru Xue yawned, "I'm going to sleep!"
Xu Chunliang hung up the phone, gazing at the bright moon. He thought to himself, Mei Ru Xue must be looking at this moon too; she's definitely concerned about him.
Uh oh, he's caught in emotional troubles before mastering his skills, not a good omen.
At five in the morning, Xu Chunliang was woken up by a call from Gao Xinhua. Usually, such calls indicated urgency.
Upon answering, Gao Xinhua immediately berated, "Did you get yourself into trouble outside?"
Xu Chunliang thought, bad news really travels fast. Whose quick mouth got it to Gao Xinhua?
Gao Xinhua informed Xu Chunliang that the person he hit yesterday, Tang Tianyi, is the beloved son of Hua Nian Group's boss.
Hua Nian Group is the corporation that signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Changxing. Tang Tianyi was accompanying his uncle to Dongzhou for an inspection, and he ended up getting injured as soon as he arrived.
Zhao Feiyang heard about this matter and asked Gao Xinhua to look into it, urging him to ensure that the police handle the case and seek justice for Tang Tianyi.
Gao Xinhua urgently contacted friends to understand the situation, only then realizing that the one who beat up Tang Tianyi was Xu Chunliang.
Gao Xinhua finally experienced what's called flooding the Dragon King Temple; he didn't dare report it to Zhao Feiyang and instead called Xu Chunliang to ask what was going on.
Xu Chunliang gave him a brief rundown of the events.
Upon hearing, Gao Xinhua also felt a bit indignant. Emotionally, he was on Xu Chunliang's side; if it were him, he'd also beat up Tang Tianyi.
But the key is that Tang Tianyi's status is too sensitive. Though hitting him felt great, the aftermath is troublesome. If this incident messes up Changxing's cooperation, Zhao Feiyang will certainly be furious and might attribute the fault to Xu Chunliang.
Xu Chunliang told Gao Xinhua not to worry; he would take responsibility for his actions alone.
Gao Xinhua, with a headache, said, "Don't give me that crap about bearing the consequences alone. You should've thought through the consequences before hitting someone; being clever means handling it without causing trouble."
"Are you suggesting I should wipe out the root cause? Fine, which hospital is he staying at? I'll go shut him up right now."
Gao Xinhua knew he was talking nonsense; at other times, he'd laugh, but now he couldn't: "You brat, how can you be joking at this time? I'm telling you, Tang Tianyi has hired a lawyer to sue you. I've asked friends at the police station; you need to quickly find evidence to prove Tang Tianyi was the one causing trouble first, otherwise you'll be in big trouble."
Xu Chunliang knew Gao Xinhua was looking out for him. He laughed, "Uncle Gao, don't worry. I'll have this resolved by tomorrow at the latest."
"How will you solve it?"
"Can't say now, it'll lose its magic if I do."
Gao Xinhua sighed, "Maybe I should find Dean Zhao to see if he can mediate."
"Finding him is useless; he won't side with me, most likely he'd advise me to apologize to that Tang jerk. Let me be clear, I won't apologize to him."
Gao Xinhua sighed again; for now, this matter could only be temporarily ignored in hopes that the police investigation yields results soon.
##
During the holidays, business at SEVEN STAR was booming and unaffected by last night's dispute.
By day, Xie Chunlei specially went to the hospital to visit Tang Tianyi. Tang's injuries weren't severe; the medical assessment showed that it didn't constitute serious injury, which meant Xu Chunliang hadn't violated criminal laws.
The incident happened in the bar, so Xie Chunlei expressed he would cover all medical expenses. He didn't want to suffer a dumb loss and instructed his driver to head to Huichun Hall after leaving the hospital.
Today, the whole Xu Family went out on a trip, while Xu Chunliang stayed home, using the excuse of writing a work summary, advised by Lu Qi to hopefully resolve conflicts today.
Since both parties stood their ground, a little compromise from each side may lead to reconciliation. Lu Qi thought it wasn't impossible; now the key lay in Tang Tianyi's attitude.
Xu Changshan decided Huichun Hall would close for seven days during the holiday, taking the chance to spend quality time with his family.
Xu Chunliang still exercised in the morning, recently focused on researching the rubbings given back by Bai Mushan, combining the existing rubbings to sort out certain threads.
At ten in the morning, Mei Ru Xue came to see him.
Xu Chunliang invited her to sit at the entrance and brewed good tea; the morning sun shone brightly, filtering through the yellowing leaves creating a mottled shadow on the ground.
Mei Ru Xue surveyed him, confirming he wasn't injured, joshing, "I didn't realize you could fight so well."
Xu Chunliang replied, "Just so-so. When a bad guy brings his face over, I must satisfy him a bit."
Mei Ru Xue said, "You injured five people; two you broke bottles over their heads, one you stabbed with an ice pick. Haven't you studied law?"
Xu Chunliang shook his head, "No, I haven't."
From Mei Ru Xue's words, it was obvious she had learned about the case, proving she cared; otherwise, she wouldn't have rushed over.
Mei Ru Xue said, "You must take responsibility for the assault; Tang Tianyi, whom you stabbed, is still in the hospital."
"He stabbed himself," Xu Chunliang refused to admit responsibility.
Mei Ru Xue said, "Many witnesses testified it was you who stabbed him."
"My witnesses testified my innocence."
Mei Ru Xue sighed, "You're just stubborn."
"Do you trust me?"
"Whether I trust you isn't important; what's critical is whether the police trust you."
Xu Chunliang smiled pleasantly, "I think your trust in me is more important."
Mei Ru Xue glared at him, but couldn't suppress her smile, ending up laughing; her laughter was as charming as a flower, even Xu Chunliang was momentarily stunned.
At this moment, a Mercedes GLE parked in front of Huichun Hall. Xie Chunlei got out, took off his sunglasses, and looked up at the signboard of Huichun Hall.
Xu Chunliang and Mei Ru Xue were sitting at the entrance enjoying tea. Xu Chunliang spotted Xie Chunlei and waved to him, "Looking for treatment? We're closed today."
