Martial Artist: Stronger by Coasting Along

Chapter 17: A Brand-New Coast Along

Especially for a Martial Dao student like him.

"Fishing!"

The words immediately popped into Ling Feng's mind.

In the peaceful past life, the neighbor big brother next door would always get scolded and cursed by his wife whenever he went fishing, regardless of what time he came back.

In such an environment, in many people's eyes, fishing was seen as an unproductive activity. Even more so in this era of scarce resources, where everyone revered Martial Dao, and every Martial Dao student diligently cultivated.

If he continued to fish a few hours every day before the new semester began, perhaps after persisting for a certain period, he might even acquire new abilities.

Moreover, the Coasting Along Value could be accumulated daily.

Whether it was Combat Power or Physical Fitness, they would sooner or later reach an ideal state.

The key is that in the real-world environment, as long as he doesn't post updates, Wang Dashan, Yan Fei, and others wouldn't know what he's up to and would think he's seriously cultivating.

Since this would leave them delighted and also allow him to earn more Coasting Along Value and even abilities, it's a win-win situation.

"Such a good idea, why didn't I think of this before? I was on a narrow path."

Ling Feng was excited, planning internally to report to Yan Fei's Dharma Hall at a fixed time daily and to take a good rest during those two hours.

After class, he would go fishing, then come back to join a square dance, and finally play games for an hour or two, and the day would be just right.

Ling Feng immediately went to a fishing tackle store to buy a whole set of equipment.

Because it was getting late today.

He could only go for a square dance first, then play games for two hours, and afterwards mess around with the fishing equipment at home.

"Could he really have changed?"

Chen Duling noticed that Ling Feng's gaming activity today was significantly less than usual.

"No way, I can't rest tonight. I have to continue cultivating."

Chen Duling was feeling conflicted.

As far as she knew, Ye Chen was already in a closed-door cultivation state.

She couldn't afford to lose to Ling Feng, and then to Ye Chen again.

The next day.

Ling Feng arrived at the Dharma Hall as planned. Yan Fei, having noticed Ling Feng only spent two hours gaming the night before, was filled with anticipation and thus handed Ling Feng and the other two books on Dharma Aspect.

During the process.

Yan Fei saw Ling Feng reading with great interest and was almost too excited to cry out.

But if he walked behind Ling Feng, he would see a fishing comic novel placed in front of the Dharma book.

Ling Feng didn't know much about fishing, so he was earnestly learning.

After practice, Yan Fei watched Ling Feng leave with joy, feeling as if he'd successfully changed someone.

Noticing Ling Feng forgot to take the Dharma book.

He picked it up, intending to catch up and return it, only to find a new fishing comic tucked inside.

He then saw Ling Feng with fishing gear and a sun hat, sprinting towards the mother river of Inner Ring City.

It turned out that, to save time, Ling Feng had left his fishing gear outside the Cultivation Room, so after practice, he could head directly to fish with it.

"Ling Feng... you..."

Wang Dashan's face stiffened, feeling deceived yet again.

The mother river of Inner Ring City is called Jiulong River.

There's a lot of sentries along the sides, frequent patrols passing by, and many flying devices monitoring overhead to prevent Catfish Demons and other Alien Races from entering Inner Ring City via Jiulong River and attacking its residents.

Ling Feng casually picked a fishing spot, set up his things, and cast the line out, being a novice, he was a bit clumsy.

Fortunately, his goal in fishing was mainly to Coast Along.

Whether or not he actually caught any fish was of little concern to him.

So after casting the line, Ling Feng just sat by the river, watching the scenery on the water.

He noticed that there weren't many people fishing at Jiulong River, but there were some, and most were older Martial Artists whose Combat Power had declined or who were injured and couldn't improve their Combat Power through cultivation, their life clock ticking away.

The sudden arrival of a young Martial Dao student fishing garnered a few more glances, but people didn't think much of it, as frequent visitors to this fishing spot knew that every now and then, a Martial Dao student would come to relax under cultivation pressure for a day or two or just an hour or two before going back to cultivate earnestly again.

However, the nearby fishing folks soon noticed that Ling Feng was different from the usual Martial Dao students. Firstly, he ignored whether the bait was eaten after casting, and secondly, he would lie down for the entire day, sometimes even several times, letting the rod nearly get dragged away by fish before realizing it with their reminder.

It seemed his purpose in fishing wasn't to find enjoyment in it or to relax and release cultivation pressure, but rather to specifically waste time.

This strange behavior led the older men nearby to whisper among themselves.

"Must be that his end-of-term grades weren't good, feeling disheartened, and came here to kill time."

"Young people nowadays, they can't take setbacks, unlike our day, when no difficulty ever stopped us."

"Such a young person giving up on himself, what a pity."

"People like him shouldn't receive cultivation resources and living assistance."

"I'm really tempted to report him to his school!"

...

Lying on a chair, wearing an eye mask, and feeling the river breeze, Ling Feng found life quite enjoyable until those voices reached his ears, causing him to frown.

"Young man, seems like you're not very old, probably still a Martial Dao student. Did you just finish your finals and didn't do well, so you're here avoiding reality?"

A man named Zhou couldn't help but shout.

Upon hearing this, Ling Feng removed his hat and eye mask to look at Old Zhou.

"You wear an eye mask while fishing?"

Old Zhou was caught off guard.

"Truly here just wasting time."

"Damn, these young people these days..."

The fishing folks' expressions grew unfriendly.

Old Zhou took out a badge from his pocket and put it on, saying: "When I was your age, I not only cultivated in the Elite Class, but also got an admissions contract from Divine Martial University, receiving triple cultivation and living resource subsidies daily. Where do you cultivate, and how are your grades?"

"I just turned down Divine Martial University's offer and am now cultivating at the Dharma Hall."

Ling Feng casually replied.

He found it rare to have some old men to chat with, so he bantered along.

"Watch out or you'll twist your tongue."

Old Zhou flung his fishing line heavily.

Standing with his hands on his hips by the river, he said, "You're about the same age as my grandson. Tell me which school you're from, and I can ask my grandson about your abilities."

"What's your grandson's name?"

Ling Feng reclined back with his hands behind his head.

"Old Zhou's grandson is something else, once trained at the Advanced Cultivation Class, and ranked in the top 100 in the Inner Ring City's finals. His name is Zhou Changqing, don't say you've never heard of him."

A man named Xu quickly chimed in.

"You're Zhou Changqing's grandfather."

Ling Feng feigned surprise.

"You know my grandson too."

Old Zhou beamed with pride.

"No biggie to defeat."

Ling Feng chuckled.

"What did you say..."

Old Zhou was so irate his mustache trembled.

"Grandpa!"

Ironically, Zhou Changqing appeared on a flying skateboard above the river to bring some food to Old Zhou.

"Changqing, perfect timing, help teach this impudent classmate of yours a lesson."

Old Zhou immediately pointed to Ling Feng.

Ling Feng's eyes met Zhou Changqing's, and he couldn't help waving to him, conveniently donning the Dharma Martial Artist Badge from his pocket, then lying back on the chair, stretching lazily, and saying: "Ah, classmate Zhou, the final rankings are out, what place am I in?"
